It’s going to be possible to fall in love with a virtual girl.

Wasn't that the case already for quite a few people in Japan?

Yeah it's called AKB 48!

Here it goes. Ancestors, stop watching please!

And some thought the 'feelies' were a silly part of Brave New World.

Only in Japan (eye roll).

At least these people who are excited that it will be "possible to fall in love with a virtual girl," are much less likely to reproduce. Natural selection for the 21st century.

The photo accompanying this article is tame. Another photo posted online has a guy doing some serious groping: https://goo.gl/Jyzuln

Really speaks volumes about the Japanese male mind that they couldn't pass up the opportunity to legally grope.

Fits in perfectly with the " Virtual Economy", the "Virtual Education System", etc, etc.

It looks like the "hands-on" e-mote (Emotional Motion Technology) girlfriend gizmo is now on the blink (for whatever reason). Somebody has attached an "out of order" sign to it: https://goo.gl/e0E4hG

The Tokyo Game Show organizers might want to brace themselves for a deluge of deeply disappointed fanboys. Not a pretty sight.

Talk about a hands on experience. This actually could be a means to cure the chikan problem we have here in Japan. Let all these gropers grope to their heart's content in VR. They are not hurting anyone. Hell, why not even have an upskirt candid pic game in VR. People can live all their sick and twisted fantasies in VR to their heart's content. If it shields society from them actually doing it in real life I'm all for it.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

@Aly Live out their fantasies or practice them.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Anyone who thinks people wouldn't be doing that same groping in other countries are kidding themselves.

For that matter, I'd give the boobs a grab too. It's virtual, and I like boobs. No hurting anyone, no offending anyone (other than prudes).

“I feel as though I have seen the future,” said an excited Groper.

The show’s organiser told software developer M2 Co to stop visitors fondling the dummy’s breasts, which with built-in sensors prompted the anime image in the goggles to move.

It is always interesting to note the 'violence good, sexual content bad' tendency. Why is it okay to display blood and violence?

From an interview from one of the companies, Sense of Wonder, that present at last year's Tokyo Game Show:

TGS: What were the significant changes between the presented games and games you developed before? Sense of Wonder: First of all, Party Hard is a standalone PC game, all previous games were web-based social games and mobile games. Our previous games were family friendly, current game contains violence and blood. Our previous games were free-to-play games, Party Hard is premium paid game.

Let adults have whatever virtual fun. It is not hurting anyone.

By the way, this tech was already introduce in 1994:

Japanese male mind

Yes, we all know there are no perverts anywhere but Japan....

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Let them grope all they want - it just leaves more rampant totty for us real men.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Anyone who thinks people wouldn't be doing that same groping in other countries are kidding themselves.

I don't think anyone said that.

For that matter, I'd give the boobs a grab too. It's virtual, and I like boobs. No hurting anyone, no offending anyone (other than prudes).

A little bit too much info there...but have at it. More power to ya!

Fair enough. I missed that post.

False, and it sounds too sensationalistic! Gamergaters will be out in force if the quote above is true

Anyway, here is the real reason: the hardware broke down!

But earlier today, the developers announced that they were truly sorry because they discovered last night that the contraption was no longer working and that it wasn’t currently possible to use the touch sensors.

Was there a prison cell in this virtual future?

Why would you be arrested for groping something digital?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

BAD REPORTING from reuters japan!!! That korean contributor in that reuters piece is not helping.

According to Famitsu (the respected videogame news & review publication in jp), this demo was only slated to be offered during the two business days and not during the public ones.

See famitsu.com/news/201609/15115807.html

Don't be too quick to dismiss it. I'd rather pedophiles come out and do this instead of hurting real girls.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"I feel as though I have seen the future" said an excited programmer, Hiroyasu Ando.

No, Hiroyasu. I think you have touched the future.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I think there is an OUTRAGE response and then something like Aly expressed in Aly's first post.

You are going to get a good number of troglodytes, unfortunately, who don't understand that virtual reality is different from reality. These are the types who hang out at hooters and strip clubs. They objectify women so much that there are whole industries built up to let people humiliate themselves and take money from these guys.

Now won't this VR move to destroy/augment that industry by letting these trogs degrade themselves further? SURE! And that leaves more beautiful people for the rest of us to be with and enjoy. Games like this will effectively sequester and mark people who can't be bothered with real relationships. And that is not a bug. It is a feature.

No matter how old and ugly I might get, I don't seek relationships with people who only want me for sex. I can only imagine that there are a lot of people like me. Probably most people. People who want to be titillated deserve to get what they want, and the more they keep it to themselves, the better off we will all be.

So, let's VR pat down Donald Trump and ask him, is that a 44 magnum or are you just glad to see me?

Charles Darwin nods knowingly......

Strangerland: "Anyone who thinks people wouldn't be doing that same groping in other countries are kidding themselves."

Fair enough. So tell us where else they are doing such a show with virtual reality goggles and setting up a touch and feel woman who shows up as a giggly, busty anime character in your VR? and point out where they are saying this to the media: "“It’s going to be possible to fall in love with a virtual girl.”

What they really need to do with these types of fictional games (and manga/anime too imo) is put a nice page front warning stating,

"Commiting such actions in public, on actual real people is illegal and unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Please keep aware reality and fantasy are two separate things."

Since there are so many situations of Japanese men doing such things like juvenile idiots with absolutely no common sense.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I prefer the real ones.

In terms of the Japanese Population Decline? Only going to get worse.

@ Smith

Do you really not realize how far Japan is behind Europe and the States in the VR Porn world? There are many sources of information but try googling Naughty America and VR Porn for some enlightenment.

Just admit you don't consume anime/manga/gaming and live action movie/drama. There is a disclaimer already built-in that states "this work is fiction".

Wow you must not be psychic. There is no disclaimer (in Japanese manga/anime/games) that states such actions like taking/looking up skirts, groping, and rape are considered illegal and prosecutable by Japanese law. It just says, "This is a work of fiction" and yet it's not enough detailed confirmation for the juvenile minded perps to figure out they shouldn't be doing it to real people. As I said, it needs to be SPECIFIED and put on a full page because they don't have enough brain cells to figure it out "this is a work of fiction" so they may as well try out their fantasies in reality....

Legalese is all about SPECIFYING the LAW. Folks without common sense need to have things spelled out to them.

Well TBH, not really sure what anyone expected here
