What's not commonly known is that of the 1500 people with pager services still, 500 don't remember it, 400 are members of the Diet, and the rest are senior bureaucrats in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology.

We stubbornly held onto ours for on-call until NTT killed their service 10ish years ago. Pokebells would never fail to deliver messages, even in building cores and basement dive bars.

Trivia: pagers have the elisive and rare 020 area code. Once they're goine, I suppose they will be able to give these numbers to regular mobile phones, or perhaps whatever exotic connected devides we are using in a few decades.
