Yes. They will say a hateful commentator was influenced by so-and-so’s platform, and then use the violent language of the commentator as an excuse to de-platform.

This is just to help the powers-that-be control the narrative.

If they were sincere about "stemming disinformation", they would block practically everything from the mainstream media and politicians...

Whole point of social media is meant to be anonymity and freedom to say what you want. The fact that it brings out the worst in some folks is a statement on people, not the medium. Once moderated it is likely to quickly lose its allure.

The usually bring up examples of the worst of people as an excuse ban people, but in reality they end up banning lots of good folks (many are not anonymous) who never said anything bad, just because certain people did not like it.

But I agree that they are quickly losing their allure, and many people are moving towards alternative sites to get the information they want/need.

What about all those paid trolls and shills at the behest of governments (like the Kremlin's IRA)? How do we control their attempts to spread hate, division and misinformation?

I'm really curious how people think this decentralized platform would be moderated. On a technical level, how does that work?

To be clear, as a guy who owns two tech companies, I don't see how it would be possible for a centralized agency/organization to do so, but posters here seem certain that this will lead to this, so they apparently are more in the know than I am.

No one has actually explained it though.
