Twitter, the fast-growing micro-blogging service, is seeking volunteer French, German, Italian, and Spanish translators to render its website into other languages.
Twitter's website, Twitter.com, is currently only offered in English or Japanese.
Biz Stone, a co-founder of the San Francisco-based startup, said in a blog post that Twitter was planning versions of its website in other languages, starting with French, German, Italian and Spanish.
He invited a "small group" of Twitter users to become "volunteer translators" to suggest translations for the Twitter website.
"We will distribute the translations to Twitter platform developers making it easier for them to offer multiple language support as well," he said.
"We're very excited that more people will be able to use Twitter in their native language!" he added.
Twitter, which allows users to pepper one another with 140-character-or-less messages known as "tweets," has grown rapidly in popularity since it was launched in August 2006 and claims to have topped 50 million users.

Excellent. Now the whole world can prove just how boring they actually are.

nemoflow-right you are. I am a bloody German and it makes me sad to see that they do a German version as well. But then again, everybody has a right to be stupid.

Twitter was it english and japanese. Now going go to French,German,Italian and Spanish.
It could also go Mandarin,Indonesian/Malay ,Arab and Hindi/Urdu in future. Will take longer though to have twitters in Afghanistan via Pashtun/Dari.
It will help people doing business and any thing else ,get more followers . You could also follow your follower and your follower's followers.
It chain reaction than could go a millions of people, like in the Obama's account on twitter.
I am now having 62 followers,I started with zero followers.
Raja Kumar
corrections-It is a chain reaction,it could go on, to millions of followers, like in Obama's account on twitter.

I think I can see a jumping shark, in four languages.
Has Twitter gone public yet? I am not keeping up, but I am sure that has something to do with this.... er... development.

I am now having 80 followers, can make 5 follower friends globally a day.
1 year you can make 1800 or more friends(sort of) globally.
Obama ,John Mayer and many others have millions of friends(sort of) worldwide via twitter.
No wonder they are rich/talented.

So Raja. What do people do with all of their followers and millions of friends? Get them to harvest mannah in Everquest or something? Post questions on Yahoo Answers?
When I was a little boy, I used to watch my dog run around in circles as it chased its tail. Not once did I think of him as rich or talented.
sf2k
what, not enough twits in English and Japanese?
Raja Kumar
Klein- People like Obama,John Mayer,Yoko Ono,all popstars, all actors, all businessman and many others use twitter.
Suppose you are President Obama, you want to connect to your voters and improve for next elections. Are you saying that Obama is a dog running around circles.
He is president,he does better via feedbacks/link websites provided by his voters.
John Mayer links up his fans more via twitter and his fans linked up more to him via Twitter.
It is just a weblink/short message process. Let there be global unity, twitter can link us all to global unity. We all are the same,in whatever nation we live in. We can help each other more via twitter/twitter links to everyone on planet.
