VW : 9.31 million
Toyota : 8.90 million
Renault Nissan Alliance : 7.95 million
Hyundai-Kia : 6.52 million
GM : 6.26 million
Honda : 4.5 million
Ford : 4.15 millionVolkswagen was one of two finalists, the other being Hyundai. Hyundai won out over VW due to its US production capacity that VW lacked.
Japanese weren't considered due to lack of suitable EV platform and technology.

@samit basu didn't toyota come out to the top based on the number of cars produced?
what makes you think so? and try showing me the rankings of these companies in fortune 500 list.
you seem a to dig up links real quick.

@samit basu seems like you have no idea about toyota mate. Try learning about Japan too sometimes. Calling toyota or honda inferior in technology huh. lol what a big joke you are. your ignorance and hatred towards japan is laughable.

No. And that's 2020 ranking.

Major Toyota and Honda parts supplier's CEO has never heard of Apple approaching Toyota and Honda. Mitsubishi explicitly denied they were ever in contact with Apple.
By comparison, Kia suppliers had specific discussions on Apple Car project.

@samit basu well, apple most likely won't approach either Toyota or Honda. As a person who observes Apple's supply chains it wouldn't be any beneficial to such companies like toyota and Honda, Even if approached, Toyota and Honda would have most likely rejected the offer. I think, Apple's most probably gonna settle with magna for this. Could you read the whole nikkei article properly and post the links to the full article as half pointed paragraphs like these can be misleading.

@samit basuBtw kid, Toyota sold 10.7 million vehicles in 2019 and Volkswagen sold 10.91 million vehicles in 2019. Gotta check your figures once again.

Well, not just magna, foxconn. Companies like nidec, Hitachi astemo are actually better suited.
