About time!!!

US will never dominate in chip manufacturing, not unless all their workers are prepared to be paid below the minimum wage and reject all unions. why would overseas companies ever buy chips manufactured in the US when they can get them substantially cheaper from other Asian manufacturers. cHINA will be the largest consumer of chips in the future, what makes the US think China will suddenly buy US made chips instead of those they manufacture themselves

The American sites could benefit from a $30 billion subsidy package
pretty much describes most of US manufacturing and farming, without those subsidies theyd never compete, then they scream foul when other countries do the same for their industries LoL

Not to mention that it is not in the U.S.’s best interests to sell to the Chinese.

and why would there be a need, most large US corporations already manufacturer in China, why import more expensive US made products when its cheaper to buy them locally in China. Chinese market will soon be the largest in the world, if you dont manufacture there then youll be left out of that market. If the US is demanding manufacturers make products in the US for the US market , then so can China

Hate to burst your bubble but Chinese and EU chip manufacturing equipment rely on US technologies they do not have. The US has been willing to allow that tech to be licensed to foreign chip manufacturers but no more.
Desert Tortoise
Chinese chip manufacturers rely on US technology in their chip making machinery to be competitive. The Chinese do not have the ability with their domestic technology to manufacture the smallest and most advanced chips. Now with access to that US tech cut off they will have a very hard time competing on the leading edge of technology.

True. And Intel want to manufacture those as well. But they'll have to master 5nm and beyond processes if they want to compete.
