CCP is reminding these tech companies - "who is the boss!"

Eventually these tech companies will be forced to share data with CCP in the name of patriotism. If these companies want to survive, they'll have to align their goals with CCP objectives.

Those firms have to let the Chinese Ministry of State Security and PLA have access to their data at will already. I think what the CCP fears is that these firms have data on the travel, shopping and internet browsing habits of party members including senior party members, the sorts of information foreign intelligence services might find interesting. The CCP also fears any privately held entity gaining enough power combined with media access to challenge the CCP party line. Jack Ma was forced by the party to relinquish control of the business academy he founded, Hupan University, as the party feared it could become a center of thought and of influence that would compete with the official party line of the CCP.
