I'm still pissed about this. After I repeatedly turned down the automated offers to update my PC, Windows 10 decided my "No" really meant "Yes", and updated my computer on its own

I switched and 10 screwed up many things. My printer disappeared from devices. My card reader stopped working. My previous photos suddenly had dates going back to prehistoric times. Be prepared to do damage control.

use Linux Mint if you're a Windows user. Interface similar and you get all the stuff you need plus everything you don't. If everything you do is online then you'll never notice.
Not in the article was the new$7 a month monthly fee for Enterprise users of Windows 10. Coming soon to regular users? They want to go to the Office 365 subscription model. I wonder when that shoe will drop
So glad I have a W10 blocker on my W8.1 machine, although in truth I haven't use that laptop in months. Generally stick to my other non-Windows devices.

Rename to "Intrusive Windows 10" :(

That Microsoft goal may become more elusive as unhappy campers switch to Linux systems. Also, this is a big fat opportunity for Mozilla Firefox which now has an OS for tablets. Google has Chrome Book and it wouldn't take much to make it available for PC systems. I noticed comments about pictures and that is one of my sore points with BG's Number TEN OS.

Win 10 is not so nice update for Win7 but if you have 8/8.1 it's a big improvement for PCs that doesn't need touch display. They can't hit the mark because of the mobile industry has gone to Android and iOS...

Who need Windows? I am perfectly fine with my DOS 8088 + 3.5" Floppies.

My computer was sabotaged by Microsoft, with a message saying "this copy of Windows 7 is not genuine." Cost me $95 to have it fixed. BEWARE!

Windows 7 is awesome! But wins 10 is garbage! Don't upgrade!

Bad advice. If you don't want Windows 10, then go buy a Mac or switch to Linux. Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 soon. That means no more software updates for peripherals or other software. Being obstinate is not an option.

Windows 10 is a downgrade. I installed it, and a couple of days later, upgraded back to Windows 7.

Client operating systems -- End of extended support
Windows XP -- April 8, 2014
Windows Vista -- April 11, 2017
Windows 7 -- January 14, 2020
Windows 8 / 8.1 -- January 10, 2023
Windows 10 -- October 14, 2025
Microsoft is known to support their OS for quite a long while.

The problem with windows 10 is all the data which is constantly sent and receive to Microsoft servers and affiliates, honestly, if you have the chance to have firewall router, turn your policies to monitor and log all the traffic and you will be shocked to see what your W10 computers are transmitting, that is almost 10x time the amount of data (compare to a windows 7) going thru your router. Also be aware that W10 is like a P2P machine when comes the windows update, depends of your setting, you could be P2P updates to other W10 computers in your network or even to other computers connected to internet.

On January 13, 2015, Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7--which is still an extremely popular operating system. But you'll still be able to use it safely for another five years. My question--define "safely."

I could provide a list like this for the other operating systems, but why should I bother if many of you are just going to continue hating on Microsoft and stubbornly sticking with outdated operating systems? Yes, the previously stated 2020 date for Windows 7 will be something that Microsoft will be only doing half-heatedly. If you are comfortable with that, then go ahead and continue using Windows 7. Just don't come in and complain here when things start going wrong. Microsoft's main focus is on Windows 10, and most of their resources will be dedicated to that OS. Also, any support for old hardware or legacy systems will not be forthcoming. If you have an old printer or some other peripheral, then don't expect it to work much longer because Microsoft will stop providing support for those kind of things and will simply focus on security issues with Windows 7 and other older OS.
As I said before, if you don't want to upgrade to Windows 10, then don't. You have a little over a week to make that choice before you have to pay for the upgrade should your hard drive die or should you decide to build a new system from scratch but then try to install the old OS. There are other options out there. Try Mac or Linux--no one from Microsoft is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to go with Windows 10 if you are still unwilling or unable to make the switch.
