More problems with the service every day, and less people working to solve them, it is not exactly a death sentence for Twitter but is close, people (including sponsors) are preparing to leave and the company that was in a precarious position before being bought by Musk is now in a really desperate situation and going worse.

And the beatings will continue until morale improves.

Elon's new nickname is - " Space Karen "

I find it vaguely satisfying that the richest man in the world can spend 44 billion to be the proud owner of a bunch of rapidly depreciating servers, some real estate and a brand now synonymous with implosion (Dude, you totally Elon-ed that one!”).

And all because he is a pompous self-important narcissistic jerk. Twitter is a service. It doesn’t “make” anything. The staff provide the services that make up Twitter, not Elon.

And they just invited Elon to perform the anatomically impossible upon himself.

It’s worthy of a Saturday giggle.

Musk has locked out employees from their offices. Not enough staff to protect the network from hacking. There are many Twitter activists whose data is very sensitive.

Musk is looking like a fool on the world stage! This is not his families precious gem mines in South Africa. He cannot exploit those tech workers in the US, the way they exploited those poor South African black miners.

After Elon Musk's ultimatum, Twitter employees start exiting

Musk can simply sale the Twitter data to China! China as a proxy for Putin has already pressured Musk to shut down the Starlink program in Ukraine be leveraging TESLA manufacturing in China. He will also use Twitters algorithm for their Tesla car smart assistant.

If he pulls off this WeChat app then he will have power over Amazon and Apple.

Cleaning out the cobwebs, nothing extraordinary. Compared to say a takeover by private equity (where crapp sandwich is the dish du jour), this is a choc sundaes with nuts.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Musk has turned out to be the biggest problem at Twitter. The company is in chaos.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

It is a huge mess, we knew it and it’s a lot messier and more corrupt than previously thought. He’s got this, just gut it and get rid of everyone that doesn’t fall in line or is a liability. The company and their politics brought it on themselves.

The company is in chaos.

The company was in chaos way, way before Musk. Its decline was fully reflected in its stock price. At least now it has a chance.

AND he offered a choice with 3 months salary, worker power. A private equity firm would have made 80% of the work force suffer, and micro-manage them until they are all constructively dismissed, yes google it 'constructive dismissal' where you suffer so much you resign, with no severance or benefits.

The best way to protect your account and your personal information is to cancel your account permanently.

Elon Musk and his dangerous ideology of free speech are such a threat to the establishment that they have launched a furious campaign to sabotage his company and slander him.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

And it will continue to sink..

Elon's new nickname is - " Space Karen "

"Space Clown" is more appropriate..

@bass4funk - I found this summary of Twitter 2016 operating costs -

In 2016, Twitter spent $2,896.83 millions on operating costs ($932.24 millions on cost of revenue; $1,251.11 millions on sales, general, and administrative expenses; and $713.48 millions on R&D). In the same year, the total revenue was $2,529.62 millions. Furthermore, Twitter has 2,300 employees.

So perhaps for about $2 billion dollars a year, Musk could have hired 2000 employees and started a new social network company - that $44 billion allowing for a decade or two of launch time. Since he plans on completely changing the code base and the business model anyway, it would probably be better to start from scratch. And Musk could probably have assembled a good motivated team and made a decent stab at it (although the field is already crowded so success is far from guaranteed).

Your argument could only make sense if Musk bought Twitter in a fire sale under about 10 billion.

So far Musk has overpaid and underperformed.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported conversations with engineers who said there were six critical systems – such as "serving tweets" – that no longer had tech staff to support them. "There is no longer even a skeleton crew manning the system. It will continue to coast until it runs into something, and then it will stop," one said.

Another report said roughly three-quarters of the 3,700 employees remaining after the initial round of layoffs have chosen not to stay after the "hardcore" email.

Musk messed up. Big time.

The best security for Twitter is to close your account and find a better system. Everyone in their 20s never used twitter anyway.

The best security for Twitter is to close your account and find a better system.

Sad that this point has been reached but there does not seem to be a way for twitter to recover from this disaster, by now maybe not even closing an account may be enough to protect your information.

So far Musk has overpaid and underperformed.

So you’re saying he did a Donald? LOL.

He trumped it up.

Oh the comparison possibilities are endless.

Bottom line- Elon is already saving so much money by not having to pay the salaries of impetuous children who were making 200-300k per year.

Blacklabel

Bottom line- Elon is already saving so much money by not having to pay the salaries of impetuous children who were making 200-300k per year.

The average pay was $140,000 which isn't high for IT. Most fired employees will be paid until Jan/Feb. Not saving anything. Advertisers have canceled.

Musk is asking if he should have a vote about restoring Trump's account.

The value of Twitter has dropped. $1,000 million in interest payment is due.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Hope it sinks to the Challenger Deep and takes its clown owner with it.

Cool.

If that number were correct, 3500 staff cut at 300k a year. He’d cut a billion dollars in salaries this year.

Didn’t he just spend 44 billion? And cut his workforce by 50%?

That’s a win in your opinion, is it?

I see.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yep because employee cost isn’t just their salary. i would know.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Plus he is clever enough to put a poll about Trump. knowing the bots he needs to identify would attack in force once Trump was winning.

you think he and his team weren’t sitting there watching that and smiling? Leftists can’t resist doing his work for him.

Speculation or imagination? Which one is it?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Elon Musk himself said so.

fact?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Elon Musk himself said so.

fact?

Said what? Who knows.

He said he wouldn’t turn twitter into a free for all hellhole in an attempt to soothe advertisers fears.

How did that work out?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Hilarious how leftists think Musk, one of the most brilliant men in a generation is an idiot now just because he is now center left instead of far left.

his puns and jokes are cringe, his meme game is weak and nothing is ever his fault.

Hallmarks of how to identify a leftist. Poor sense of humor can’t meme and blame Trump.

what did he say? He literally said he and his team sitting there watching the bots attack the Trump poll.,

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

1 million people per hour answering his poll. Almost all the liberals claiming they were leaving? Still there. Some free for all “hellhole” huh? People cant stop using it and replying.

kinda like this place.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Elon is about to prove that the 1000 workers left were the only ones doing any work and the 6,500 he is getting rid of were actually doing nothing for years.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It’s ‘hilarious’ how some people think business is all about left or right and that life is a team sport.

Oh wait. No, it’s not hilarious. it’s very sad.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This is what happens when you involve the word 'Trump' in your business plan.

The Anti-matter King Midas strikes again.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Musk will lose big time if Apple and Google decide to axe the Twitter app.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Less free speech on Twitter since Musk took over.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Now that all the tacit knowledge of the company has walked out the door, taking with it the institutional knowledge, how to make complex (particularly THESE) complex systems) work together, and any other knowledge that wasn’t written down or not easily learned from a book, St. Elon has paid $44 billion for some real estate a depreciating brand and some rapidly depreciating servers.

But hey, he put a poll out about letting America’s new Adolf back on the platform so he must, MUST be a genius, right? RIGHT?

Or maybe, just maybe he’s a rich boy, plenty of smarts, no empathy, who thought he could waltz in, bark out orders and expect people, really intelligent people to follow his irrational dictates without question.

And then reality hit him.

Boy wonder indeed….

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Aaaaand, in accordance with an online poll, and contrary to the site’s policies on hate, civility and disinformation policies, Elon restores Trump.

Boy that’ll help with advertisers “pausing” their advertising, won’t it?

Now the Dotard gets to decide if he wants to backstab his investors and get the attention fix he so desperately craves. (Spoiler alert: He’s going to hang his investors out to dry.) Serves them right for trusting him given his history.

Where will Cheeto-Jesus go when he’s scuttled “Lies social” and Twitter goes into the shi…(you get the idea)?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This is the best news I've heard in a while. Just imagine all those self-important, left-liberal, bien pensant twits deprived of their daily routine of boring the world with their second-hand slogans and virtue-signalling retweets!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

What account to protect? Unless I don’t go down on knees and take back my last opinion like Galileo , I can’t log in and use it, even if it were protected. Those commies there can go to hell, and quickly.

Quite amusing this.
