The last of anyone worry when women, children, and seniors are getting killed by putin's madness.

yes its market economy.

you can send astronauts to space by your rocket or even can take off columbia or challenger from museum as it may still work-or if wants use bad russian one you may need to pay in rubles/you dont have right now ready/.

freedom comes at cost and in case of space programs you may start to stare at night sky from mother Earth...

An online petition by Russian scientists and scientific workers opposed to the war says it now has more than 8,000 signatories.

Science is not business - that is, it has little if any ability to prop up the Putin regime - so I was against sanctioning it. On the other hand, by quashing most news sources, Putin has prevented much of his population from knowing how seriously the West opposes his invasion. Perhaps a time-out on scientific cooperation might be another step in bringing that message home.

We should be brain-draining Russia by treating their people well and welcoming their scientists and skilled workers to migrate to and stay in The West and work with us, not targeting and punishing people who simply carry a Russian passport.

Welcoming the best and brightest is the best weapon we have against totalitarian regimes.

@Eastman. Columbia and Challenger are tiny pieces. 14 astronauts died in those accidents.

Getting into space is something the west can do without any Russian help. Paying the Russians for access to Orbit was a way to retain ties, especially for European payloads. There was a Russian rocket the R25 which was amazing because the Russians solved a very difficult issue that the Americans saw and decided was too hard to solve at the time. A supply of those specific rockets was purchased by Rocketdyne the last decade. A few more flights - I think using Grumman as the prime - remain for 2022. After that, no more flights in the US will have Russian rockets. This is mainly due to the US Congress tagging funding to NOT using Russian equipment.

This story is about all the other science projects where key people are from all around the world, including Russia. Whenever a key person on a science project is removed, there is a huge gap. There are some very smart Russians.

And Russia has the largest fleet of icebreaker ships. Only a few countries even make them. https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/DCO%20Documents/Office%20of%20Waterways%20and%20Ocean%20Policy/20170501%20major%20icebreaker%20chart.pdf?ver=2017-06-08-091723-907 has a GREAT image of ice breaker ships in the world using 2017 data.

In general it is bad without doubt in many fields of science. The good thing here is, they are now slowed down by setting free the next loads of deadly viruses , if the research in their countries is forbidden and now also the cooperation and final fulfillment with the other side being corrupted by war implied boycotts. Corona release and the Ukraine labs show that there are sometimes merits to expect if global cooperation is not taking place or is hardly stopped.

Since your "good thing" is imaginary, while the actual and serious difficulties in tackling with problems that are even more serious than the pandemic are completely real that means it is not good at all.

Corona release and the Ukraine labs show that there are sometimes merits to expect if global cooperation is not taking place or is hardly stopped.

Believing such obvious lies betray a huge lack of knowledge and even common sense. An "escape" from a moon base would be as believable.

Politicians are only good at breaking things.

Just throw in the towel, walk away and leave the world to go to hell. Humanity doesn't deserve to survive.

Politicians are only good at breaking things.

Yeah it's not like they've built every country on the planet or anything...

Read the political writing and speeches, all of which he wrote with no outside, by Vaclav Havel and tell us if you still feel that way. A good place to start is a compilation of his speeches in a book titled "The Art of the Impossible. Politics as Morality in Practice", 1997. In elected government politics is usually a close reflection of the electorate. In many nations today with elected governments there are too many among us shouting to burn it all down, destroy it, and the like. People as a whole have lost it seems any ability to compromise and politicians who do compromise for the greater good are shouted down and later voted out of office. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for this situation.

Most of the younger ones never stayed in Russia. They left long ago because the pay in Russia stinks. They can make a lot more and live a better quality of life in Europe or the US. I remember when I worked at FedEx in the early 2000s they were busy hiring Russian PhD mathematicians and economists for their economics department and for their workflow engineering.

Russia is advanced in this sense. What a pity.
