I've pulled a couple of 48 Hrs stints and a bed would have been welcome...

For what? To make money for someone else? I work to live, not the other way around and yes I have my own business. Even still life has to come first. Unless you are in a military unit actively engaged in combat or an emergency services worker of some sort (fire, police, medical, etc.,) working 48 hours straight is never necessary. I have had a couple of bosses try to tell me to and my reply is always the say, " a lack of forethought and planning on your part does not constitute and emergency on my part". And I have always been happy to walk away from any idiot who wanted to overwork me like that.

So 57% to 47% means nothing without knowing the nature of the jobs they did and skill they have.

If it can be shown that women of equal educational attainment to men were proportionally hired to lower paying positions than men of the same qualification there could be strong case that not just the layoffs but Twitter hiring was discriminatory in nature.

If you don't want to do what the boss wants you to do....get out !..

Under the law Twitter must not discriminate on the basis of sex or age. Layoffs have to be gender and age neutral. The lawsuit alleges that Twitter laid off women more than men and that, if proven, constitutes gender discrimination which is very much illegal. The allegations by the plaintiffs that 57% of the female staff was laid off compared to less than 50% of male staff suggests there is some merit to the suit, but that will be for a jury to decide.

Musk has every right to do what he is doing, and good on him.

Beds in the Offices beats sleeping at your desk in times of emergency.

Twitter is no different than any other business in that it must follow applicable local, state and Federal laws. His wealth and name recognition do not grant him immunity from the laws all other businesses must follow.

To bad so sad.

If you don't want to do what the boss wants you to do....get out !..

There was plenty people pretending to work at Twitter and getting away with it.

It dosent work that way in real life.

If I tell you one out of 5 children born today is ethnic Chinese then statistically speaking if your fith (5th) child could be Chinese, "statistically" but wait you aren't chinese

That shows a low-intellect understanding of how statistics work. They only work when applied to a large scale, not to individuals.

The gap is even greater for women in engineering-related roles — 63% were laid off, compared to 48% of men with engineering roles, according to the lawsuit filed

Makes for great copy.

I guess all " engineers are the same, right?

Now take my Daughter for example the business she works in is IT she is an "engineer" previously the company she worked at had about 20 IT "engineers" about 15 female 5 males. The graphic design department was worse 10 people 9 female 1 male.

It was going under so layed off 15 "engineers" 13 female and 2 male and all 9 female graphic designers.

Wow that look very disproportionate.

My daughter was not layed off at the time, because all those layed off were "engineers" were really just web designing, coding and lower skilled work that could be outsourced.

The top 5 were kept the one male graphic designer was one of the owners, my daughter being the only AI trained engineer was kept.

The company still didn't survive but reality is not all "engineers " are equal.

Stats are an amazing thing that can be manipulated. If I tell you one out of 5 children born today is ethnic Chinese then statistically speaking if your fith (5th) child could be Chinese, "statistically" but wait you aren't chinese

So 57% to 47% means nothing without knowing the nature of the jobs they did and skill they have.

Everybody sue that clown !!..

Beds in the Offices beats sleeping at your desk in times of emergency.

I've done plenty of that - 60, 70, 80 hour stints. You do that when you're in the military, police, fire dept.

As for the firings of staff - yes, sorry, its hard. And those impacted will be left wondering why, and looking for excuses, this is natural - been there before. Move on, seriously, you're nothing Special, the real world is heartless and doesn't give a F. about anyone. not you, not me. Time to stop complaining and move on.

Muskrat is a greedy son-of-a-biscuit-eater. He told his staff all these things and he doesn't care about their health either during this time of a pandemic. He only cares about himself and monry. He opened accounts for that sassymouth Traitor Quisling Donald, as well as the blubbermouth antisemite Ye. True colors, folks.

And did you notice that so many staff members exited from his San Francisco office when he took over?

Muskrat is a jerk and a criminal of the highest degree.

@Strangerland Just stating a fact.

Oh dear, if you think this is a fact, you clearly aren't intelligent enough to understand what a fact is:

many woman want to work fewer hours than men, get paid the same and be promoted at the same pace and complain when a man who works 20 hours more a week gets paid more and gets promoted.

That my friend, is clearly opinion.

@Strangerland Just stating a fact. In North America men work around 7 hours more a week than woman.

Elon asked who wanted to work hard long hours and more woman than men didn't want to work hard.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

57% of female employees were laid off, compared to less than half of men,

the percent of men was 47%. The non technical functions no longer needed in the company were primarily staffed by women.

so this is as expected.

Hate to say it but in North America many woman want to work fewer hours than men, get paid the same and be promoted at the same pace and complain when a man who works 20 hours more a week gets paid more and gets promoted.

You think men don't want the same?

Not sure what you're angry about here.

He kept the high performing workers who are willing to put in long hours-these people tend to be men

Hate to say it but in North America many woman want to work fewer hours than men, get paid the same and be promoted at the same pace and complain when a man who works 20 hours more a week gets paid more and gets promoted. The Bell curve for male outcomes have much longer tails with more at the top and more at the bottom who are homeless.

Women sue Twitter alleging discriminatory layoffs

Not surprising as women, more than men, tend to be more, eh, um, vocal about politics.
