I watch a lot of videos often, movies and lectures," said buyer Shim Ji-hye, 38. "I hope faster speeds will help me manage my time better.

Unless 5G can speed up the duration of the movies, his time management will be exactly the same.

Apple iPhone XS is better.

Apple iPhone XS is better.

Yeah, because 4G beats 5G.

At least you are not implausibly claiming that a Japanese phone is better. Unable to do that, you are knocking a Korean phone you have never even tried.

@ganbare

Apple is looking like a dinosaur. 5G is still 2 years away and folding screens still on the drawing board.

Still Japanese people like to think they are not buying a Chinese or Korean product. Check to see where it is assembled and where the parts come from.

Not just a few people are saying 5G is much more dangerous. 4 foot cell towers on every lamp post. As If we didn’t have enough natural and unnatural radiation bombarding us.

Another user said he was most excited about virtual reality content -- which includes games and even "celebrity VR dating" apps according to the country's mobile carriers.

Oh my gawd!

All this reminded me of Jim Morrison live in Boston recorded in 1970

Unless 5G can speed up the duration of the movies, his time management will be exactly the same.

Thanks for the morning laugh.

I refuse to buy anything from Samsung Electronics.

Ready to stalk your data, if none of you are aware the security risks of 5G, see some youtube clips on it

But many components of iPhone are made in USA and in Japan. Top quality. And all iPhones are designed in California. Not China or Korea.

Suppose I should buy a Sony phone next as Apple products are too expensive.

Yipee. And somewhere in the world is the world's first 10k tv. Not much to get excited about when there is zero programming to make it useful at all. Same with a 5g phone.

Chinese smartphones are the BEST.

Don't understand why other Japanese mobile brands just wants to remain within the border. Why not go international, it will end the saga of Apple and Samsung.

Modern Japanese films still use flip phones which seem out of this world.

Buy another Galaxy any day

I asked this question many years ago. It signalled the start of Japan's decline for me. Despite having phones for sale domestically that were a good two years ahead of what was for sale in the West, Japanese firms were unwilling or unable to penetrate Western markets, which were dominated by Nokia etc.

Then Apple cleared up with the ipod - Japan was slow to react in an area it should have been all over.

Then came smartphones. Again, Japan's answer was too little too late. Only Sony even tried and made no impact.

Whether it be phone technology, or cooperation in space, no one seems to trust the Chinese.

There may not be a Sony Mobile company left for you to buy your phone from, since Sony is hacking the Sony Mobile away in desperate attempt to reduce losses.

Sony Mobile's annual sale is down to 6.8 million units in 2018, from which Sony Mobile is supposed to turn a profit from. This is simply impossible.

https://www.techradar.com/news/sony-mobile-set-to-halve-workforce-in-profitability-drive

Sony is set to halve the workforce at its struggling mobile division in a bid to make it profitable from 2020.

@BackpackingNepal

There is no Japanese mobile brand left.

Sharp is just a brand of Foxconn now.

Panasonic only sells ODM phones from China under its own brand.

Ditto with VAIO(Sony spin-off). Heck one time there was a scandal because a VAIO phone was identical to a Panasonic phone except for the logo, because both were buying from same Chinese ODM vendor.

Sony is the last Japanese smartphone brand, but Sony keeps chopping away Sony Mobile's staff to stop the endless cash bleeding.

Why not go international, it will end the saga of Apple and Samsung.

At the MWC 2019, it was very clear why Sony Mobile was dying. While Samsung and Huawei were showing off their foldable phones, Sony was showing off its Xperia XZ4 featuring thick bezels top and bottom, while even the Chinese have transitioned to full screen phones with notches while Samsung was showing off exotic hole in screen phones.

In other word, Sony was 3 years behind the Chinese in adopting the latest market design trend.

I will never buy Korean or American smartphones. They are garbage. Chinese smartphones all the way!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

China already won anyway.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It is extremely stupid for Japan to reject China's 5G technology. China will dominate 6G, no doubt about it. When comes to 7G, Japan has no clue at all.

"...download movies in a second."

I can see all the pirates salivating. New entrepeneural jobs for the unemployed.

Even South Korean/Chinese/Japanese smartphones are based on Android (the closest smartphone to pure Android is the Pixel) - smartphones are only as useful as the software and apps that interface it

Top of the range Apple and Samsung are still the best - I think you say more about yourself than the handset market.

Don't really see the point unless you have unlimited data.

Its not uncommon for Apple not to be first out of the box with some tech, but most of the time they get it right. All companies make mistakes but I honestly think being first is over rated.

I personally am happy with 4G and I am sure they will rank the price up for any 5G so I am happy Apple takes its time.

Having said that, of course with Jobs gone .... Apple really misses him, what company wouldn't.

Trust has to be earned, and they are famous for stealing / copying.

If you think about copying products .... China is the first country that comes to mind
