What happened to Netscape?

A relic from the dial-up modem era - and one of the earliest victims of both the IPO bubble collapse and the M&A craze, as Compaq and later Yahoo took it over. It tried to do everything, and ended up doing nothing.

Alta-Vista used to allow one to search for punctuation (such as @) which I found very useful.
