While its search capabilities are abysmal, I appreciate that you don't need an account to use it.

Unless you’re a YouTuber then you need an account.

It used to be great until Google started charging and forcing an excess of ads on us.

I got even worse when they started putting ads in the middle of what we are watching.

Thank god for YouTube. I spend a lot of time learning and enjoying content on it. It's changed the world.

I first got an account in 2006 and it was great without any commercials but there wasn't nearly as much content on it as there is now.

I used to play a game where I would only click on the recommendations in the right-hand column to see where that would take me and not allow myself to type in anything into the search box.

I often found myself YouTube surfing till two or three in the morning.

But with endless commercials now embedded into the site, the fun of this game has disappeared.
