"I think you'll be able to come in second place at the Olympics," Shimizu told the team. "The champions will be Japan."

That's quite the warm welcome.

They won't be cool in the summer heat, I can assure you that.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Right. Telling someone you are so cool is not cool. Calling yourself Cool Japan is not cool either.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Being called cool in japan is hardly an achievement

Is there not “one” over 60+ Japanese politician, or government official, connected with these Olympics, that hasn’t ‘put their foot in their mouth”?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Socially inept. As always.

Yeah, how embarrassing. I bet the Australian team felt their skin crawling.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Will they remain "cool" after they will be cooked and roasted by the wonderful hot and humid environment?

But maybe I am wrong, because I still remember the great maximum leader aka former PM that clearly told us that Japanese summer is warm and mild enough to make a perfect environment for athletes.

They are also largely confined to a "bubble" environment, consisting of hotel and practice facilities, to minimise contact with people.

Isn’t the idea of a Bubble to stay inside it?

The squad is attending a 47-day camp in Ota.

In the summer heat in Japan during the vaccine-less covid era?

More like a 47-day boot camp with manual labor.

I wouldn’t call the Australian team cool, I’d call them insane!

Nationalism’ before “Omotenashi”…

*- “You’re so cool… [but] "I think you'll come in 2nd place" Shimizu told the team. "The champions will be Japan." -*

…the ‘true’ 2020[-21] Olympics’ Motto!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Now Mr. Shimizu, why don't you go stand outside family victim homes, whose siblings perished from this mad pandemic, and tell them eye-to-eye: "You are so cool, you guys are really cool".

"I think you'll be able to come in second place at the Olympics," Shimizu told the team. "The champions will be Japan."

Trash talk, J-style.

They are Australian, A warm day in a Australian summer is 30c to 40c. a hot day 40c + Tokyo weather will not be a problem.

Unless they all come from north of the tropic of Capricorn, it's the humidity not the temperature that's the problem.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The IOC keep saying that athletes will not meet any locals, and that is why the games are safe.

And so it begins..

"I think you'll be able to come in second place at the Olympics," Shimizu told the team. "The champions will be Japan."

Another govt. official putting his foot in his mouth.

The mayor sounds like some of the posters here! :)

Darius/Williams77: They are Australian, A warm day in a Australian summer is 30c to 40c. a hot day 40c + Tokyo weather will not be a problem. Plus most of these girls are x rep cricketers. They are use to standing out in the hot sun for 6 hours each day, a game last 5 day. Where they be in the sun for only a innings at a time.
