Just do the ceremoney after 8 pm. The virus doesn't transmit after that time as per the Japanese gov't.

Bet all these Japanese people attending will use taxis & personsl cars to go back home afterwards around midnight time right?

Tokyo general population is urged to stay indoors after 8pm but nothing to see when we have tens of thousand of people travel public transport around midnight just because of farce of Olympics right?

Double standards much?

Who cares? I’m not going to watch this rigged Olympics.

Perhaps this decree came down from Lord NBC and Lord Koch.

That is another 30 minutes of airtime with lots of potential advertising revenue packed in for the network

It’s like the Dentist saying the root canal will take an extra 30min, the joy at this news is overwhelming.

I usually find these ceremonies to be contrived and boring. I expect this one to be the same. One exception being London which had the Queen skydiving into the stadium with James Bond.

Sadly, Japan will have tedious anime and Kabuki characters and probably AKB or what ever the latest group is called.

I figured the extra 30 minutes were to a) make sure any spectators who happen to be present sing “Kimi Ga Yo” inch-perfectly, and b) to allow enough time for all athletes to prostrate themselves face-down in front of the IOC Deities.

wow so many sdf or security guard people will have to be involved in the ceremony. how much cost does it will need? Instead, that amount would be spent in helping people in need..

This changes everything.

At least all the workers and participants are volunteers - there won’t be any worries about not paying them for this 30 minutes overtime.

Sadly very untrue - see this recent article at Mainichi (link below)

https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20210702/p2a/00m/0na/043000c

It is raining our tax money - more than 500 staffing companies have been on hiring spree for part time workers to support Olympics - they are hiring more than 100,000 people - these are on top of volunteers (who are free of cost) - they are paying upto JY 2800/ hour - far higher than minimum wages in Japan

All this money is our tax money that government is using for such matters - you cannot make it up

LIke most people, I will be too drunk to care. Why are they holding it at night? Are they going to be parading with burning torches?

A stupid flash-in-the-pan idol group for all pervs. Here today, gone tomorrow.

How about some J-rockers like Boris, Atom Mothers Temple or Shonen Knife instead? Show the world the best of modern J-music.

Maybe they could have the emperor skydiving in a Mario costume.

Well, ok, let's just stick to AKB48, Johnnies and other stuff performed by middle-aged guys acting like 15 year olds or teen girls in school uniforms.

C'mon, really. I posted what I did because wouldn't the host nation want to highlight their best? These idol groups are totally Chump City, I mean really not the best.

Maybe dancers wearing costumes of Pac-Man, Pokemon characters, Godzilla, Dragon Ball Z, Hello Kitty, you know - the kitsy and cool stuff Japan is noted for? That's culture, man.

As I have written earlier, I will be washing hair that night. I think the hair-washing process will take an extra 30 minutes now.

Yay! 30 more minutes of the circus! I'm ecstatic. Can I also have some more bread as well ?

Most people? Doubtful. Even in Japan.
