With little money and no car, he would wake at 5am every morning and run to the dojo and back -- clocking up 20 kilometers a day -- before heading to school.

Wow. Good luck, Asif!

great respect to this young man, BUT if this story is about softening us up to the Olympics, my answer is imagine after all the hardships this young man had to go through he gets covid at the Olympics and either dies or gets so sick he can never do Karate again.

@Aly - I believe the softening has been gradually starting for 1 or 2 weeks. If one watches the news, reads the papers, etc. it is quite obvious this is exactly what is going on.

Good for Asif and in spite of your efforts and your story (which are honrable) I do not and cannot support you competing in games during a Pandemic when 80% of the Japanese citizens are against holding the games now.

If the IOC would even delay 6 month$ they would gain re$pect and $upport of Japane$e and people of many other countrie$. In$tead they arrogantly in$i$t on pu$hing on with thi$ fool$ errand. Yes it is about the $$$

But if that is the case, then why is Aus in lockdown yet again?

because Aus is a RESPONSIBLE country which takes covid seriously, unlike Japan. THAT'S WHY

Having milked enough viewership from the anti-olympic stories, has the media changed its tune?

As I posted here a few times a short while ago the media will be provided with stories to boost the popularity of the Olympics. There will be plenty more with many showing how safe the events will be. This is needed because of many false claims made that the Olympics will lead to more Covid cases and cause chaos in Japan

Are you saying @ffs 11:43am, the media or, rather the ‘platform AI, are really working overtime now, even late night, to get public opinion, even individual posters, focused back on the chance of an Olympic “dream”?

So you’re saying that the media (who you were blaming yesterday for having “very negative feeling towards the Olympics” in a post on this site) will be actively involved in distributing spin (read ‘propaganda’) to reassure the general public?

Interesting.

Not propaganda but factual information to reassure the public and to show them the positive effects of the games. So much misinformation has been pushed to the public regarding safety and that must not be allowed to sour sports greatest event.

"That regardless of who they are or where they come from, they have the ability to achieve greatness."

I am sure at one time or another, I read that on the back of a cornflake packet.

Asif Sultani has endured hardship no doubt.

But Bruce Lee?.....

Inspiring story. Best of luck to the young man.
