Of course they are vague on virus countermeasures coz they have no idea what they are going to do about it. Nobody knows what will eventuate with the virus in the next few months although, it looks like it's here to stay for quite some time.

Soap in the restrooms with adequate hand-drying facilities would be a start.

Pretty sure the IOC can overrule and cancel.

Instead of imagining the future with regard to the virus, the emphasis should be on the here and now.

Whatever countermeasures have been in effect until now?

Well, Japan has 45 cases of infection so far, the second highest after China.

Thousands of people are under quarantine in Japan, the second highest number in Asia after China!

Countries are banning Chinese from entry.

Japan has to enact stronger ‘countermeasures’ now as it may find itself off limits to many visitors.

But It thought PM Abe "brushed aside" concerns?

They're quarantining 3-4 thousand people on a ship to prevent the spread of the virus, yet they are not even CONSIDERING postponing or cancelling the Olympics, a HUGE international event with 10s if not 100s of thousands of people coming over?? WFT????? Seriously???

Odds are it will be well over by then. I see why they're not cancelling but it would be more reassuring if they would say that, in extreme circumstances, the option would be on the table. Fully scrapping the Olympics would mess with the economy for years so cancelling it as a precautionary measure isn't a good idea. I assume that once it warms up it will either go away or Japan will 'postpone' the Olympics.

I'd like to make it clear that there have been no talks or plans being considered between organizers and the International Olympic Committee since the World Health Organization declared an emergency,"

How you would make plan if you don't talk with each other?

Come on. Why would they postpone or cancel the games now ? No reasons for it at that time. 6 months to come, no pandemic yet, it would be a pure irresponsible “panic” decision. IOC or JOC would be criticized and looked down by the whole world. If a decision to cancel as to be taken, it would only be about two months before.  I am sure there are behind the scene discussions about countermeasures.

Damn, that's one ugly stadium. This virus will come and go, but that eyesore will be there forever - and undoubtedly cost a fortune to maintain.

Agreed! I don't know what happened. I would have thought with so many world class architects that Japan would have put on an amazing architectural showcase. It seems not.

Beijing would have to be the most visually striking of recent olympics.

"Soap in the restrooms with adequate hand-drying facilities would be a start."

Even when soap is there, not many people use it. Hopefully virus fears will force a change in thinking.

H'm not now maybe later they will decides to postpone the olympic.

When you just hope something goes away, you tend to be vague about the processes. It's kind of like their plans for dealing with the heat... just hope this year is a bit cooler, and panic the whole while until it is not, then panic more. Then run, shrug, and say it was someone else's choice. They have no plan, same as they have no plan for traffic congestion, nor REAL plan for dealing with the heat.

Vague on virus countermeasures. Vague on just about everything.

Vague, is not a good way for anything, vague hurt people but it seems that is poor japanese behaviour as excuse.
