Get all athletes and support staff vaccinated, and then hold the Olympics.

Maybe someone should tell that head that Tokyo is hosting the games, Tokyo does not own them.

Anyway, the games will be held, when that much money is involved the health of the participants, athletes and officials does not matter. I am also sure that there will be a nice memorial service for the people that get the decease there and die of it, or maybe not because if someone dies it is almost certain that the death has nothing to do with Covik-19.

I really hope the public is recording all the video and audio of these jokers and what they are "promising" or "guaranteeing" will be happening as far as the 2021 Olympics are concerned. Just to have proof at all the ignorance, double standards, and contradictions that are spewing out of the mouths of these fountains of misinformation, that they call OFFICIALS of the games.

So at this point we will just be watching sick people trying to recover from Covid as the competitive games?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Magnificent games showing mankind's victory over the virus be it with empty stadiums ( except for privileged IOC members and their guests such as foreign visiting dignitaries) must go ahead no matter what. Frequent testing of athletes to provide a covid safe games whilst in the rest of Tokyo, hospitals may be overflowing and people dying at home due to denial of testing. What a splendid victory over COVID!

Of course he is going to say they will go on..just like he did last time..he has to stick to his guns and not give up..until the last minute, in which he will say they are cancelled.

It appears that the government does not care about what 80% of its governing populous thinks. In my opinion, it is time to elect a different faction that would truly represent the citizens.

Forest Gump would agree with the Head of the Tokyo Olympics the Tokyo Olympics will not be cancelled. I mean, why would they be cancelled?

The Games will be held definitely. The gov will sell it to the people by claiming to create a bubble with no contacts between locals outside, and athletes plus their coaches etc inside. What they will not mention is that besides the volunteers, a huge number of local, ordinary Japanese workers will be needed to clean the venues every day, to drive all the cars and shuttle busses around, and the service workers inside the food venues. Those will be front line workers, exposed to different strains from all corners of the world of the Covid 19 virus (We might even get a new strain out of this called "Tokyo 2020"!). But as they are "unimportant" to the great scheme of the LDP and their business partners they will conveniently be forgotten, before and after the Games!

The government will sacrifice everything to ensure this circus goes ahead, regardless of the damage it does to everything else.

Remember what George Carlin said: “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”

I just only wonder if they do their job for the human beings or for the viruses.

Tokyo Olympics should be cancelled under such worldwide pandemic circumstance. If Tokyo Olympics done, China will go in Winter. Pandemic goes on for a couple of years. Each country does not have to let athletes to go to Japan if they don't want to go.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Selfish, stupid people in charge with no idea of reality !

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The more denials there are, the closer we are to a certain cancellation.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

They'll wiggle out of this by saying the games were not "cancelled," they will be postponed...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

What does your search result show?

I didn't do any search for "Japan pharmaceutical production" or anything like that. That's why I stated, "I presume". Japan still has a lot of manufacturing capability. Most of it has gone to China but as a %, I think it's quite a bit less than USA and Western Europe.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

If this was a European country, by now we would have seen massive demonstrations against the Games or who knows, given the confusing rhetoric from the government maybe even Coup d'etat

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Ōsaka, and now Okinawa, have decided that running the torch is too hazardous for public roads but..... the hundreds of thousands of people coming to and moving about in Japan.... over the space of several weeks is.... (insert word of choice here)

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I presume Japan has the manufacturing facilities to pump out a large number of shots very quickly.

What does your search result show?

Adding to the above; It is also important to remember that tremendous pressure is being put on Japan from the outside as well. This pressure is from the IOC and media companies and other business interests around the world who have a vested interest in ensuring the games go on at all cost.

For those of you old enough to remember the xenophobic and nationalistic book in the late 80's (NO)と言える日本 (The Japan that can say "No") by Ishihara of the LDP and Morita (then Sony chairman) it would be a good time to invoke that message.

I say to the LDP: In the intereststs of the Japanese people be "the Japan that can say no" and tell the world Japan is not willing to take the risk associated with the Olympics.

The problem is the LDP does not necessarily care about the Japanese population as a whole.

No spectators, but there will be TV technical crews, media, and all sorts arriving and not all will be staying in the Olympic village. The number I've seen is 80,000. I want Hashimoto and Marukawa to show the additional number of beds and medical staff necessary to treat the same percentage of the 80,000 as the weekly infection rate of Tokyo. I also want them to show how they're going to treat additional heat stroke cases among the 80,000. Volunteers / translators have been showing skepticism and have quit. Do they have enough to man the hospitals or are they only going to be at the venues? These are the questions these clowns should be answering if they want to be transparent.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Yeah, that sounds realistic.

It's a long-shot but with such a huge amount of money at stake, I thought the government might, and hope it will, make a break from the US regime and do what's best for Japan.

Not as if buying a safe and effective vaccine has to be the end of Japan-US relations. If the US wants to stick with Pfizer-BioNTech and a booster shot every 3 months, they can do that. Just call it "Freedom Vaccine" and the majority of the population should go along with it.

The Olympics are still around 100 days out. It's recommended the Sputnik shots be administered 21 days apart but even after one shot, they say (and unlike Pfizer, don't keep changing the story for the worse) it's very highly effective against severe infection. I presume Japan has the manufacturing facilities to pump out a large number of shots very quickly.

So yes, it's very realistic if one were to disregard the politics.

Money Talks......

5 ( +5 / -0 )

So, how many daily cases of COVID is too many to host the games? 1,000? 5,000? 10,000? More?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Common sense! An international event in the middle of a surging pandemic. Do the benefits outway the risk????

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I think she talks too much, she is delusional beyond belief. The games will be cancelled, let's see what's she has to say once relevant countries start to announce they won't be coming.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Since the Tokyo Olympic committee, IOC and the Japanese Government are adamant to have it then the only safe option is to invite only the athletes and downsize it on a massive scale. No overseas volunteers and limit the team officials and executives as well ( 90 % of them don’t do much either way and are just there wasting the tax payers money )! Get local interpreters as I’m sure Japan already has enough foreigners here from every country participating in the Olympic Games ( Use the foreign nationals living in Japan instead of bringing in overseas volunteers). Vigilance will be required with testing upon arrival and isolation at designated centers and hotels. Follow the same strategy that the Australian open organizers did this year. They could even escort teams to the Olympic village and cordon off that zone so that they cannot leave that area. Don’t allow them to go to local areas since it’s not a sightseeing trip as we are still in a pandemic. It sounds harsh but the athletes are coming here to compete and not for sightseeing and mingling with locals ( sacrifices needed on both ends ). Even though the number of infections are hitting peak during the “4th wave” in Japan right now, one thing is for sure that the Japanese public will blame the foreigners who come for the Olympic Games for the infection rate spike during the games!

6 ( +9 / -3 )

There is still time to begin mass inoculations with Sputnik V and save the Olympics. Will the Japanese government put Japan first and ignore what the US regime wants?

Yeah, that sounds realistic.

I've heard several people say "Japan was unlucky" to host the olympics during the pandemic. The pandemic itself may have been bad luck, but the insistance on pursuing go-to travel and olympics instead of vaccines was a choice. Luck had nothing to do with it.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

I really wish they are asked a clear and straight question like "What is the top priority, public health or the games?" but at least in Japan it seems impossible to do it.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Games will open in just over three months and not be canceled despite surging COVID-19 cases in Japan

This is recent report from scientist about that issue

@AG. Just FYI, Seiko Hashimoto is a “she”.

I was also disappointed she would not acknowledge the possibility of canceling the games.

She is an ex gold medalist who is now an LDP member and affiliated with Nippon Kaigi.

It would have been much better if a non political appointee would have been made.

This cursed thing giving everyone anxiety until last minute!!

Even if they allow foreign/local public, no one in their right mind would make plans for something unstable like this.

Also think about the athletes, waking up every morning to check if this event is still up. What a disgrace! Looks and feels absolutely nothing like the real Olympics.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

The head of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday was again forced to assure the world that the postponed Games will open in just over three months and not be canceled despite surging COVID-19 cases in Japan.

Naturally... how would he justify his fat salary otherwise?

Probably pressuring japanese government more than ever to “control those Covid case numbers” even more.
