I was rooting for Su Bingtian in the finals but it appeared his sensational semifinal race took everything out of him physically and mentally. He was slow to react out of the blocks, the strongest part of his sprinting, and just didn't have anything left and quickly faded. His semifinal time would have been good enough to get the silver medal, unfortunate timing of peak.
Fighto!
The Italian Jacobs is of part West African origin like the vast majority of sprinters who have run 100m in under 10 seconds.
NOMINATION
Jacobs was the only one also that held his position after the false start. All of the other runners started running after Hughes. He kept his focus while others had their nerves messed with Good job! I do miss Usain Bolt though.

Of course not, Italy has dominated the men's 100m for decades, no reason anyone would be surprised.
Fighto!
Interesting that Jacobs had never won an international 100m race before this, and that he only broke 10 seconds for the first time 2 months ago. Now he has run 9.80 seconds.
Interesting.

"9.80 from the Italian guy, I didn't expect that," the Canadian added.
Who would have thought a Canadian (Ben Johnson) could run so fast?

Yes, how ironic. I was rooting for the underdog too. But he got to improve his Asian record.
And why on earth was the gold shared in the high jump? Was this a decision made by the Qatari athlete? Imagine England and Italy sharing EURO2020. There are play-offs in other events, like the bronze in golf. Matsuyama Hideki could have benefitted.

Understated is surprising
There's no Jamaican at all to make it to the Final, and the year's fastest runner (Bromell of the US) also missed the Final in a virtual tie for 2nd but finished 3rd by 0.001 seconds in the semifinals
And Gold-medalist Jacobs is from Texas running for Italy who never ran sub-10 till last year
And Great Britain keeps getting DQ for False Starts (one in the semifinals, and another in the Final)
So it was a wide open field Final, and congrats to the medalists

My thoughts exactly. The guy didn't even flinch at the false start and flew out of the blocks at the restart. It's not always the fastest guy but the one who runs the best race.

There is time to get nervous during all this?

It was so refreshing seeing a new face in the 100-meter scene. U.S. Track & Field has been plagued with questionable athletes with very low moral character. Lamont said after he talked with his father, for the first time in 26 years, he regain power in his legs.
