Here are some useful details to put things into perspective. The bullseye at 10m is the size of the period "." at the end of a sentence. All these nay-sayers, I'd like to see you try to hit a 10 meter target with regularity, and consistency. I'd bet you would appreciate what these athletes have to do to be an Olympic marksman.

Shooting is more a mental sport than a physical one. Requires a lot of concentration, precision and mental discipline. And that is not even considering the adjustment one needs to make to become accustomed to the hardware that is mentioned in this article.

If golf (a good walk spoiled) can be considered a sport then shooting is definitely a sport.

To become a competitive shooter a lot of physical exercises (especially to strengthen shoulders, wrists, arms and fingers) are required. Apart from that, most shooters have to develop mental stamina and endurance.

Of course, one can't compare shooting with a purely physical sport but that does not mean that any Tom, Dick or Harry can suddenly take up shooting on a whim and become good at it.

Ask anyone who lives in places where crime rates are high and cops cant be counted upon. Or those who live near forests where attacks from wild animals are a real threat. In my country there are frontier areas beyond the reach of the state where insurgents are active and owning guns is a necessity.

I think you need to look up the word 'lethal'. It doesn't mean what you seem to think it does.

I love shooting my air-rifles at targets. It is similar to golf, bowling, darts, tennis, volleyball, fishing, or any other activity where placing an object in a specific location is the goal.

It is relaxing and requires both body control and mental control skills.

Best of all, I can't worry about work or the gutters or the mortgage and still hit the target center. Plus it is legal to shoot in the back yard and mostly free after the initial costs. 1000x cheaper than golf and 50x cheaper than bowling. Bowling and frisby golf (also known as disc golf) with friends are both fun too.

Standing makes target shooting much more difficult. Kneeling is a little easier and prone is the easiest of the Olympic sport positions. Depending on the wind and other atmospheric conditions, all can be difficult.

Pellet rifles aren't considered lethal, except for fairly small critters and is often illegal. Anyone who has ever been hit by a pellet in the leg or belly knows that it hurts and may need medical attention, but only an extremely lucky shot would kill a human. Just like throwing darts or a bowling ball.

A bad day of target shooting is mostly frustrating, just like a bad day of golf. A good day hitting the targets releases feel-good endorphins.
