Six international athletes participated

How does this scale to 60,000 foreigners entering Japan without even a quarantine? Hint, it does not.

World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe on Wednesday gave Tokyo Olympic organizers high marks for a marathon test event they staged in Sapporo, saying they were able to deliver both on the operation of the race and on their COVID-19 countermeasures.

Another TOOL.

*Six** international athletes participated*

exactly!

It is getting to the point that I dont know which is worse COVID or Japanese politicians that keep pushing for these Olympics to be held in the midst of yet ANOTHER emergency declaration being considered for the host city!

17 ( +17 / -0 )

Only idiots believe the words coming out of the mouth of these corrupt IOC executives! People are suffering medically, mentally and financially during this pandemic and these IOC dickheads are just sweet talking the Japans officials because they want the Olympics to go ahead at any cost since it will help them line up their own pockets!

Go home coe! And dont come back! This fool does NOT care about Japan & especially its people!

Everything about this daft test event SHOWS the games should NOT happen!

Off the charts INSANE!

Let's see what Sebastian has to say in a couple of weeks when positive virus cases emerge from this.

How does this scale to 60,000 foreigners entering Japan without even a quarantine?

Precisely

I cannot make my mind up if the IOC and sports bodies around the world understand the medical situation here. Or is it just being put to one side out of the way.

Only yesterday Sapporo issued a Medical Emergency Declaration and Osaka sounds like it is a nightmare. Our medical system is fighting hard against Covid, but it does not take many days of increased infection to overwhelm the system. We need to protect ourselves until we have the chance to be vaccinated. It really worries me we are going to really suffer with a new mix of variants, all for a sporting event.

I will add, I love sport and the Olympics gives a chance to see sports that are not often showed on TV. Now is the wrong time for this event. I never understood why it was not delayed until 2024.

Dont listen to anything this snake-oil salesman and crook says. Its all about the money for Lord Coe.

Cancel the games and get this pandemic under control.

Let's see what Sebastian has to say in a couple of weeks when positive virus cases emerge from this.

they'll blame the spectators and the few foreigners living here. Those scumbags NEVER take responsibility for their mistakes.

I get the feeling that Lord Coe and the rest would be issuing the same anodyne pronouncements if the Games were due to be held in India in less than three months' time.

The fans got to cooperate and watch from home.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Another over entitled self interested one spouting his unqualified opinion, he is only interested in glory for him and those around.

These people only want the spotlight, they care nothing for anyone else.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

I love spectator sports, but they have their place and it is not right at the top of society above everything else.

We are well into cult territory here. Unlimited spending "for the athletes", death from overwork for construction workers in World Cup (and Japan Olympics, but covered up) stadia "for the athletes", broken Covid protocols "for the athletes", competing for construction workers and building materials just as post-2011 Tohoku is trying to reconstruct "for the athletes"....

5 ( +5 / -0 )

How desperate are they to keep going and try to convince the people this nonsense.

A hypocrite Olympic committee,a nationalistic corporative government and a bunch of selfish athletes want desperately these Olympics all in the name of money, national and own pride.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Now is the wrong time for this event. I never understood why it was not delayed until 2024.

Because then PM Abe was hoping that he would be able to successfully host the games, take the glory and use it to win the general election that must be held by October 2021 ( couple of months after games finish ). That's why it was not postponed until 2022 ( which was the other option they considered ) since that would mean the media focus prior to election might not be on the games but on Abe,s many scandals. There is nothing better to divert J- media and public's attention away from political scandals than the Olympic circus.

Mr Coe has always been and always will be a selfish and self serving man. He is a candidate for the IOC Presidency in 2025 and needs the Japanese vote and sponsors. For decades he is Nike’s propaganda man as well. Also, quite something to call a 4 day event a success on day one, besides it was ‘t as 800 staff could not prevent several clusters of spectators to form.

6 athletes and a few supporting staff came to Sapporo for a token event but in august there will be about a 1000 athletes for man and women marathon and walking events and 3000 to 5000 media and support staff plus officials.

temperature will be very different as will the race and media participation.

coe should be ashamed but decades of lower corruption and greed make that an unknown sentiment for him. A sad man

I'm going to use some very bad language, so please bear with me...

He's a Tory.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Coe: another example of a sleazy Tory from wealthy backgrounds who just can't get enough money. Corruption and lying comes natural to them.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

For some reason, I cannot get a clean hyperlink but there's a petition in Japanese on change.org to stop the Olympics, initiated by Kenji Utsunomiya. 54,000 signatures so far, gaining momentum.

60,000 foreigners?

Have you not read the news for the last month?

There will be NO foreign fans.

A total of 13,400 competitors will be entering and leaving over a two month span. Add on the coaches, media etc and we are looking at 35,000 tops. All checked on arrival and regularly after. Most having been vaccinated

Not a great risk. Should they have been cancelled?

They should never bid for the games in the first place.

"Not just to protect themselves but acutely conscious that we have a responsibility in our behavior to protect local communities as well."

Absolute drivel. If you had any sense of responsibility you would ALL stay home.

All athletes should boycott the 2021 Japan Olympics. Everyone!

5 ( +8 / -3 )

So does he have a degree in virology, medicine, etc...?

No! He is your typical rich kids that did nothing but sports in University because he could and then got jobs just like this.

He and his group have a vested interest in these events and the Olympics, clearly not the most unbiased opinion.

What he says is about as believable as the CEO of an oil company assuring that the drilling and hundreds of new oil wells will have no impact on the surrounding environment.

Anyone believing this guy would also believe they can buy the Brookland bridge for a dollar.

Coe says Tokyo organizers delivered on COVID-19 protocols

Well then....................I'm convinced. Who wants to go kick it in a crowded izakaya later and kick back a few now? No need to worry about a thing now!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"Dont listen to anything this snake-oil salesman and crook says."

LOL at the above comments and other like it. If he had said the games should be postpone, I think you would be saying something entirely different. Guys, the games are going on and they will be great accept the facts.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I guess these idiots just think that because their country has mass deaths and infections, why should they care if Japan has almost zero?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

No! He is your typical rich kids that did nothing but sports in University because he could and then got jobs just like this.

Coe's father was a Cockney from the East End of London who served as a sailor during WW2, then worked as an engineer in a Sheffield cutlery factory. His mother was half Punjabi. To say he was a rich kid is nonsense.

Glad you think 10,000 is almost zero. I will have to tell my former math teacher that, he might enjoy it.

On average Japan tested 7,000 people a day, with between 2,000 and 3,500 testing positive.

Now compare the just to Ontario Canada doing on average 50,000 test a day with about 3,500 being positive.

Do the math, 7 times more tested with the same number of infected.

Now what would the numbers be if Japan upped the testing to 50,000?

10, 20, 30 thousand positive?

My friend has covid, in hospital but the authorities refused to test his wife or children and others he has been in contact with. They say they will only test them if or more likely once they show signs of having covid.

Yep must keep the numbers low as to keep up the facade of a safe Olympics.

You do know there are 126,000,000 people in Japan right?

I think you maybe should have clarified by saying "almost zero percent (0.008%)." But that's only based on the "official" numbers, so moot point regardless.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Who should we be listening to this guy? Is he a scientist? The world has had enough of incompetent people working for the WHO , IOC, etc... It's all about money and greed.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Maybe he cannot read this coronavirus numbers because there is no yen sign.
