This VAR thing is weird. Griezmann gets a PK against the Aussies for nothing, Kane gets nothing for being wrestled. Hope Tunisia go home after their shabby antics all match. Still, so glad we got that win.

As I walk into the kitchen this morning my wife tells me the final score. Cheers for that.
As of this moment, J Yahoo news has listed all the match results except England vs Tunisia.

Quit being bitter, the referee made the right call, and Tunisia were unlucky they didn't get the win.
ClippetyClop
It must be your worst nightmare today; England won and will probably qualify for the next round.
Nan Ferra
England was purposely put in a week group, in order to ensure they get to the next round. They will get hammered by any top 20 team though. They are overrated and really suck as usual

Sorry Sean, you're the bitter one as your posting history clearly shows. Seriously, if you want to slag off England why don't you sign up for the Daily Mail and have a go at those idiots. Be my guest.

The ‘unlucky’ teams left at home...again.
Iceland with 300,000 people qualifying. Must be ‘luck’.

By whom? I’m surprised people think we have that much power to influence things.
Must be a new thing. We were thrown in with Italy and Uruguay last time. We have come a long way in 4 years. Keep it up!

Belgium at 3-0 living up to the dark horse status.
Very early days all round.
England game started at 4am in this neck of the woods. No way I am doing that :p
I look forward to watching Japan v Columbia tonight, think it starts at 10pm here
It will not be easy at all. Columbia, like all S.American teams are good.
Go the Blue Samurai!!!
cucashopboy
Matt - it starts at 9pm.

Used to spend a fair bit of time on sports forums and I've always been 'bemused' by the anti-eng (or anti NH re rugby as i was in the SH) brigade! Thought JT might be different, wow was i wrong!
Reckon this was Eng most important pool game as finishing 1 or 2 wont matter that much as there is no big team to 'absolutely avoid' in group H. They really have a pretty decent draw and anything less than a qf would be disappointing.

Goodo :)

I don't like VAR, I hate the way it stops a game, but the FA and FIFA tell us it removes doubt and ambiguity. I can only assume the ref, linesmen and the room full of VAR officials thought they were at a Kane v Tunisia wrestling match instead of a game of football. Unbelievable. That said England should have scored at least four before half time. So many wasted opportunities.

Kane is like a slightly less clumsy version of the hapless Peter Crouch. He looks like he is wrestling against himself when awkwardly moving and stumbling around the pitch.

You are naive if you do not think corporate interests have a huge infuence over the morally bankrupt FIFA. Even Russia was thrown in a weak group to get them through, because local interest drops whenver hosts get knocked out. Korean and Japanese games were schedule to be on at peak viewing times in those countires as well in order to sell the most advertising. It's all about the money. (watch the movie "The International" with Clove Owen to see how the international system is rigged.

@Nan Ferra
Why were England put in a tough group in 2014?
Why were England given preferential treatment over other countries in 2018?
You aren’t making any sense whatsoever up to now. You seem to dislike England and that’s perfectly fine, but you still need to make some sense.
ClippetyClop
Genius conspiracies from @Nan. Corporate influence must be the key, since England haven't won a trophy in over 60 years

As someone who usually dreads England winning, I thought they played well for most of the game, apart from some poor finishing. I don't recall their goalkeeper having to make a single save apart from the penalty. I even found myself shouting "you idiot" at their players at times, a sure indicator support.
About the penalty claims, I'm not so sure. What can look like a defender wrestling a forward to the ground may be the result of a forward running into the outstretched arm of the defender who will claim he's standing his ground. (I used to play in defence so I'm probably biased, but those forwards know all the tricks.)
Alfie Noakes
There's a few like that on here.

I don’t have anything like the passion for England as I do for my club side. I love the World Cup but I see it as a festival of football and hope the most entertaining side wins. I was glad Italy didn’t qualify because they are generally like watching paint dry.
The most passion I can summon is for the bitter types posting childish, peevish messages .
Grow up and enjoy the football. It almost always isn’t England playing entertaining football but if it is, enjoy it.

Grow up and enjoy the football.
Exactly. Nowt worse than those England fans who turn up with a St. George’s Cross flag defaced by writing “Chelsea” or similar nonsense across it....
Jimizo
To be honest, I find the clowns with the George’s Cross painted on their cheeks while wearing knight costumes cringeworthy.
Swedish women in tight yellow shirts with Viking hats don’t seem to get my back up quite as much for some reason...
Jimizo
All too often it ends up in a fight with pint glasses flying or running battles on the streets. England fans do have a reputation for this although they are sometimes targeted.
Not like the derbies where we are from.
