This is a very important assignment for our VP. But the endemic corruption that exists is the principle barrier to a solution. While working with NGO's is a good strategy for getting some aid to needed communities they cannot make policy or enforce laws. Until these governments are led by people who care about taking care of their people rather than lining their pockets this problem will continue.

Nevertheless, we need to start somewhere and it is good that Biden is giving attention to the misery faced by the people of Central America. He needs to keep the pressure on these governments to provide some relief to their poor. We also need to find a way to legalize those that want to come to the United States to do work in areas that American workers refuse to do.

I never thought the United States would be trolled and disrespected by Guatemala. This admission is a joke.

But Giammattei, in an interview aired a day earlier, had pushed back against the "root causes" explanation, and said that the two "are not on the same side of the coin" on the issue.

Instead, he blamed what he saw as a more welcoming message to migrants by the new administration for the surge.

The message changed too: 'We're going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children,'" he told CBS News. "The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States."

Repeat of previous useless policy. It’s give money to corrupt governments. Like welfare, this never works. Just saw her little speech. She really comes across as shallow and unconvincing

Statue of Liberty: 'Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.'

Trump: 'Do not come'

Harris: 'Do not come'.

Telling people not to come to the US is about as effective as asking Japanese to stay home.

She sure flip-flopped on this. She previously tweeted that such statements (when made by others) were racist.

All it proves is that Trump was right and you were lied to.

Telling people not to come is useless.

The way the point is made it to have a daily limit and turn away everyone else. No exceptions. Period.

Then no more catch an release inside the US. Have a $5000 fine for the first offense if found inside the US illegally + immediate deportation. If caught a 2nd time, "tag" them with a deep tissue RFID, which can easily be checked and a lifetime ban on entering the USA.

And stop the companies/people paying for illegal workers. $100K fine per incident per year. Find 20 illegal workers? $2M fine. If they've been working there 2 yrs, $4M fine. Plus immediate deportation and a $5000 fine for the individuals.

If more legal visitor workers are needed, make a govt program that doesn't screw over existing workers already in the US legally. If there are local workers, just not enough, make the foreign workers get paid 2x through a govt program that keeps 50% of the money to aid local training while ensuring that foreign workers aren't underpaid or have their documents "held" by the company.

Anything less is like begging a masseuse to stop, when if feels so good. Completely ineffective.

Asking nicely does not work when you have an OPEN BORDER, let people in without monitoring, and even a court date. Not that people even show up with a court date anyway.

Stop watching fox news, it's bad for your health.

You think Guatemalans wearing t-shirts that read “Trump Won” proves he did win? Wow.

No, but it proves that there are people in other countries that also supported Trump when the mainstream media plus you keep preaching that he broke ties with every single country on the planet except Russia. You will do your best to ignore other voices though and focus on your "breath of fresh air" Biden.

Harris previously identified several acute causes of migration from Guatemala, including recent hurricanes, persistent drought, and the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

kind of underwhelming for 3 months of analyzing “root causes”.

doesn’t it rain during hurricanes? What exactly is Covid-19 “fallout”?

Ttump and his traitorous scum had their fair whack and they blew it.

How? They tried, Newsom and the Dems were the ones that refused to help Trump on every level when it comes to the Wall and border security.

He's the one who kidnapped and caged kids in concentration camps.

As did Obama, no different with the exception his administration kept it quiet.

He's the one who gas-attacked people in Mexican airspace.

He has the absolute right and obligation to defend the nation.

He's the one who referred to them an 'invasion' of 'animals'.

He was referring to MS-13, 18th St and all the other gangs I have a long history of violence and murder towards Americans if you’re going to quote Trump, do it in its full context.

That's Hitler talk and he and his kind are not welcome in a democracy. He's a fascist.

That comment is so ridiculously outrageous and ludicrous, it just defies all sense of rationality.

So basically,

"Don't come, don't come, but if you should, you'll be let in anyway. We cool now, yeah?"

Just saw her little speech. She really comes across as shallow and unconvincing

She's in way over her head, you could tell during the debates that outside of her courtroom bubble she doesn't really know much about anything.

yep dont blame us anymore! we told them not to come! I even repeated it.

“Do not come. Do not come.”

This would have been a good response from Guatemala about the Harris trip. do not come. do not come.

hilarious. this is some top shelf, high level diplomacy and foreign policy on display here.

You would think this administration would look at Europe, where it finds inspiration for its economic policies, as the model not to follow when it comes to allowing mass immigration.

Love that the Guatemalan leader slammed Harris and the biden administration for being responsible for the border crisis. Richly deserved.

I and my family of farmers back in the USA, are so unsatisfied with the Biden/Harris administration Democrat's will destroy Democracy with Socialism. Everything he is doing is wrong for the county.

I wanted to return to America one day possibly. But not this America.

Resume building the wall. The only way. Time tested! Proven effective!

Harris's words will be met with crossings and that comes with crossing Americas borders illegally.

November 5th 2024. I pray we rise to the challenge as a Nation.

Will need Democratic voters to come over to win it.

And the current administration "Biden & Harris" may not get another term.

Electing Trump was a mistake.

Electing Biden & Harris to run the country not as bad as a mistake. But still a mistake. Traded one extreme for another. This is not what America needs.

V-POTUS maybe saying "Do not come"." Do Not come" Loud and clear. But that is her future voter base in three years.

One of these Republican's need to get elected and build a base and a legacy to Rival Ronald Regan.

Or we will never see another Republican President ever elected to POTUS again.

Look at them and choose wisely.

Greg Abbott, governor of Texas.

Chris Christie, former governor of New Jersey.

Bob Corker, former senator from Tennessee.

Tom Cotton, U.S. senator from Arkansas.

Daniel Crenshaw, U.S. representative from Texas.

Ted Cruz, U.S. senator from Texas.

Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida.

Doug Ducey, governor of Arizona.

Mike DeWine, governor of Ohio.

Joni Ernst, U.S. senator from Iowa.

Nikki Haley, former ambassador to the United Nations.

Josh Hawley, U.S. senator from Missouri.

Larry Hogan, governor of Maryland.

Mike Lee, U.S. senator from Utah.

Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota.

Mike Pence, former vice president of the United States.

Mike Pompeo, secretary of state.

Marco Rubio, U.S. senator from Florida.

Ben Sasse, U.S. senator from Nebraska.

Rick Scott, U.S. senator from Florida.

Tim Scott, U.S. senator from South Carolina.

Elise Stefanik, U.S. representative from New York.

Over the next 42 months if you a Republican, Please look hard at the above.

I and my family of farmers back in the USA, are so unsatisfied with the Biden/Harris administration Democrat's will destroy Democracy with Socialism. Everything he is doing is wrong for the county.

I wanted to return to America one day possibly. But not this America.

Too little, too late.

Guatemala’s President called her bluff and placed blame where it belongs- squarely on Biden’s shoulders.

Guatemalans also greeted her with “Trump Won” signs.

Folks, not everyone forms their beliefs from Fake News, especially World leaders.

Most Parts of the Americas are well aware of the Banana Wars when US troops invaded their countries. Troops Sent by the US government To defend rich US corporations.

The US Americans that profited from the Banana Wars should pay reparations. TheAmerican countries that suffered because of the US Banana Wars, had suffered earlier after Spain had invaded them. Those countries had two of the worst empires in history, Spain and the USA invade them rob them of their resources, and kill off their leaders. That is the story of colonialism around the globe. And still people today cheer on authoritarian regimes expanding their global reach. (See Belt and Road, Eurasian Economic Union、Turkey, the USA for current examples.)

Empires Leave sovereign states alone. If an empire invades a sovereign state it should be held responsible for the next hundred or so years for all damages caused, including taking in peoples victimized and made homeless because of the invasion

Yes, just by telling people, "Please do not come" really is effective. America, YOU created this disaster so find a way to fix it! Asking nicely does not work when you have an OPEN BORDER, let people in without monitoring, and even a court date. Not that people even show up with a court date anyway. Why does NO OTHER COUNTRY HAVE THIS PROBLEM?
