Tourists avoid fascist regimes? Go figure.
Fos
To put it with the Political Analyst and Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs:
‘The United States are the most lawless and dangerous country in the world by far’
wallace
Trump also issued tourist visa restrictions for many countries.
JJE
Another anti-Trump hit job.
Even the tourists interviewed in the article weren't perturbed. On the contrary, they seem quite positive and thrilled to be in Trump's America.
wallace
Does the DATA lie?
Nibek32
Yeah, overpriced dictatorships are not very attractive places to spend vacation. Throw in the awful food, hate crime and society discord, no wonder tourists are staying clear.

The world should put Americans on notice that it won't take orders from a moron potus with a sharpie and a criminal record who has wasted no time in becoming a fully signed-up member of the war-criminal brotherhood. Tourists should avoid this red-white and blue rogue state and spend their money elsewhere.

These kind of articles seem deliberately designed to stoke anti-american sentiments, and are the worst kind of populist journalism.
The worst that can be said of Trump and the majority of Americans who elected him as their leader is that he is a somewhat over-enthusiastic patriot, with a bias toward the national economy rather than international diplomacy. Basically a businessman, not a humanitarian.
Nothing inherently wrong with that, frankly, and many countries would do well to follow suit and prioritize internal problems and inequalities. (Looking at you Japan, France, Britain)
As a Brit though, I'm proud of our loyalty to the Ukrainian people and to our (somewhat stubborn) refusal to capitulate to the world's bullies. And when I visit other countries, I always feel a sense of pride when I tell people who ask my nationality that I'm British. This despite England's colonial past.
I suspect many Americans might give pause before revealing their nationality to someone they don't know. maybe even consider pretending they are Canadian. I know I would, if I were American now.
funkymofo
Basically a malignant narcissist.
Jimizo
Still a great country in many ways.
Trump’s stupidity and virtue signaling antics will continue to damage the reputation of that country among the more civilized nations, but that isn’t representative of the country as a whole.
A great country to visit. Well, some parts of it.
Mocheake
If this ever gets worrying, the Trump Administration will just deflect, use some coachspeak, and send some lackey out there to stand in front of the cameras and blame their current whipping boy, Joe Biden: The mess left by the previous administration blah blah blah...
Jimizo
Not a very good one.
Decent scammer.

More respondents disapprove of Trump's job than approve by a margin of 4 percentage points (poll conducted March 7-11
Fifty percent of respondents to the poll somewhat or strongly oppose the recent layoffs of federal workers by the Department of Government Efficiency, compared to 38% who support the layoffs.
Nibek32
Hardly anyone is buying these because everyone knows these visas will be worthless in 3 years and 10 months.
The US tourism industry is taking a beating due to trump. Already a lot of businesses closing along the Canadian border because Canadians are boycotting the US.
Inflation is up, unemployment is up, bad times to be in America.
bass4funk
I read that as well. Not to mention, there are 77.1 million international visitors, marking a 6.5% increase from 2024.
Mexico, India, Brazil, China and Canada make up the bulk of foreign tourists
HopeSpringsEternal
Tourism is highly correlated with currency strength and economic conditions.
EU's 4 largest economies all either in or near recession, China has serious problems with deflation and falling property prices, meaning people do not want to spend.
Furthermore, US$ is strong, not relative to real asset purchasing power, but relative to other currencies.
Given above, no economist would expect US tourism to be strong, especially given Mexico and Canada also at or near recession now with currency weakness.
Japan outbound tourist numbers also terrible due to Yen
Finally, US reciprocal tariffs, starting 2 April damaging global consumer confidence and willingness to travel
bass4funk
That bump will fade away in about a year, good times ahead
stormcrow
“The United States are the most lawless and dangerous country in the world by far.”
Depends on which neighborhood you’re in. Have you ever been there?
wallace
It is impossible to know how Trump will affect tourist numbers until next year.
HopeSpringsEternal
Above more proof the Media preferred narrative, like anti DJT, drives the story, not the actual facts and truth.
Peter14
Everything costs more in America under Trump, so why would tourists want to go somewhere and pay more? Somewhere where many are looked down upon and could even be swept up in Trumps "dragnet" trying to get as many who look UN-American out of the country as fast as possible, and they listen to nobody.
Better to go to a place that welcomes you, wants you there and treats you like a local. Avoid places with "tourist overload" because they seem much less friendly now that too many people want to visit.
Look for a travel bargain in a friendly country. The US under Trump does not qualify on either count.
ThePunisher
Who'd go there at the best of times, let alone under a regime hostile to the world?
Tacky, no culture, dangerous...and the stupidity of being expected to tip people. There are so many better options compared to the US. It's no contest.
No thanks.
I'veSeenFootage
Yup. Everyone hates Trump and his dumb policies, so people are rightfully boycotting the US now. And it will just get worse as this administration slides further into fascism. The economic shortfall is going to be as big as it is well deserved.
itsonlyrocknroll
I visited New York 2024, the cost of the trip was exorbitant, although a business trip, our hosts entertainment excursions were costly, culinary, daily choice of restaurants again prohibitively expensive.
I suggest from a political point of view the economic realities of covid, and the subsequent bruising cost of living crisis "aftermath" is a overriding cause/result.
President Trump economic fiscal policies must encourage investment/growth, raise standards of living, families, individuals to a sustainable feel good factor. lower inflation.
The current economic environment, must will have a negative push back on Tourism
Nibek32
So, the media shouldn’t report on news if it’s unflattering to trump?
Then we would have only national propaganda news left like Russia. Ever hear of free press? It’s written into the constitution.
bass4funk
Millions
We do have a culture, every country and nation on the planet has one, even Canada, tipping is part of the culture, you are not forced to pay a tip, but don’t expect the best service, because that’s what you are essentially paying for, as far as being dangerous, depends on where you go, there are a lot of places where people still never lock their doors.
That depends on what you want to see and where you want to go, it’s not a one size fits all.
You have the right to not go, plenty do though, but it should be legal
Nibek32
Not anymore. Most of the countries you listed are not only not visiting America, but have major boycotts against American goods as well.
bass4funk
No, just the latest stats and No, I’m not going to use 90% of Trump-hating media stats from the same people that always spell doom and gloom
TaiwanIsNotChina
Sources or nonsense. I know there is a meme about Canada boycotting but I doubt even that is widespread.
Lord Dartmouth
Another anti-Trump hit-job.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Yes, we are totally more lawless than Somalia or Sudan.
Lord Dartmouth
Nibek32, that's not the issue. The problem is that Trump gets NOTHING BUT negative reporting on this site.
Nibek32
Thats because trump does NOTHING BUT stupid things.
eric_japan
That’s why he won the popular vote, swing states, electoral college vote… facts talk, numbers scream. Propaganda at its finest is at work globally. Elon is the newest perfect example. Once the darling of the left, the chap wakes up and thinks the left is going to extreme I can’t go along anymore. Boom!!! …..the legacy media goes to work.
bass4funk
Absolutely there are tons of positive coverage on Trump, this site has never given a positive coverage of not only Trump, but any Conservative or Republican, it’s all negative, all the time and always one-sided, at the same time, when it comes to liberals they always focus on the good and positive, never on anything negative. Every conservative on this site knows it and when anyone of us try to correct or bring balance.
No
In fact, here is a leading story today the left won’t cover, wonder why?
Trump receives raucous welcome at NCAA wrestling championships: Champ is here

Yet another guy who claims to speak for everyone else.
China and Canada might have their reasons to boycott American goods, and with Canada their tantrums will blow over pretty soon.
But even these 2 don't make up the majority out of the 5 nations that the OP listed.
I just had a Jim Beam Kentucky Straight on Friday night with a couple of other office colleagues to express solidarity with American whisky makers who might be facing calls of boycott in Europe. I generally don't drink whisky and prefer vodka whenever I go out with office mates (even though they make fun of me because vodka is considered a ladies drink over here), but now I have made a conscious decision to switch to Bourbon and support Kentucky and Tennessee.
Before anyone laughs this off, they should be well advised to note that my country is the largest whisky market in the world. If things do become serious, more of us will switch from Scotch to Bourbon to express our support for the greatest American President of the 21st century.

Those revelations won't surprise many.
Critical thinking, people. Try it, and maybe you won't be sucked in so easily by conmen like the current occupant of the White House.
bass4funk
Well, he never thought we should have supported the war, he was right and so many of us were wrong, now that’s some serious critical thinking.
Speed
I've been reading and watching videos of people with valid passports and visas to the US being detained and moved around without information for up to two weeks at a time.
Jimizo
Owned by a Japanese company now I think. Maybe you could make a better choice.
Jay
Any honest person who has actually been to the U.S. knows that tourists are FAR better off now, especially if they stick to red states and cities - unlike "Liberal" strongholds where crime is out of control, homelessness floods the streets, and you have to step over needles and human excrament just to get anywhere.
These blue areas are the ones where tourists get mugged in broad daylight while the local government tells them it's their fault because of "institutionalized transphobia/the gender pay gap/colonialism/white privilege." But sure Mazein, keep pushing the narrative that it’s Trump's America scaring people away. Complete Leftist fantasy.
stickman1760
Canada just wisely issued a travel advisory after several of its citizens were placed in inhumane detention centers for weeks on end by Trump’s thugs. Wouldn’t board my dog there.
Peter Neil
as information propagates about u.s. immigration denying entry to people traveling for business, attending conferences, etc., who say anything critical of trump in text messages after searching their phones, visitors will drop more.
this bizarre idolatry of trump put forth daily by the white house and sycophants is just like north korea and kim jong un.
airlines are canceling and reducing flights to the u.s. from canada. canadians are exiting and selling homes in florida and the southeast and southwest u.s.
destinations are changing to the caribbean and south america.
it takes time for mainstream press to catch up. we’re at the front of the wave. why go somewhere that you’re not welcome or unwanted? business travel doesn’t always have the option. leisure travel does.
