Happy Day
People who use social media tend to be more depressed- best to stay away.
egads man!
Buy the dip in stock price and make a profit after weathering the storm.

I don't think you have quite grasped that that is the poison. Addiction to social media is easy to fall into and hard to break - like any addiction. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, the whole bunch of them run on this model. I have a Facebook account but stopped looking at it years ago because I realised how bad it was for my mental health. But it was difficult, and many can't do that.
But they want you to be addicted, because they want you to click, because they want ad revenue. They will tell you what you want to hear.
It's great that you get your knowledge from books and newspapers - even if I disagree with you sometimes, I think that's very admirable! - but for many, even for most, it's not as easy as, "just don't do it".

What does it tell us about ourselves when we form our opinions based on a platform like Facebook. No need to read books or newspapers and actually think seriously about things! Just go to Facebook. It has your opinions ready and waiting.

somehow the takeaway so far from this is that Facebook was bad because it doesnt censor enough.
Which isnt really the point of any of this.

The largest interference, that coming from social media, in the market is already government entities.

Is there some kind of causational relationship between horrible hair styles and narcissistic personality disorder? Because between the owner of the Raiders, the former guy, Bill from Microsoft back before Melinda got him looking presentable and skippy here form FB, the correlation between bad hair and evil is running at 1.0.

I'm against it, actually.

Ironic - the far-right scream at Facebook for so-called censoring them, while all the time it has become a haven for far-right hate speech and incitement to violence....
They must really hate Fox, Breitbart, and Newsmaxx...

Screw that, if a business is doing harm to society then I damn well expect government to do something about it.
Me not using Facebook because I don't like it isn't going to stop Facebook from doing whatever the hell it wants. I don't like heroin either and never use it, yet despite my valiant efforts to never use it its still a scourge on society and I expect government to do something about it because drug dealers won't voluntarily stop peddling it to people just because some do-gooders like me are boycotting their product.
Its the same with any business. If the market itself doesn't provide adequate disincentives to refrain from harming society, then yeah, government absolutely should be doing something about that.

Members of my family have been on FB for years and have never seen any hate or abuse on it. Their privacy and content options are set appropriately and they use it to keep in touch with friends and family and to watch videos, mostly with rescued animals in them.
What are these people doing that leads them to see all this stuff?
All the negative things FB is accused of were turbocharged by Brexit in the UK, and that was caused by the politicians who now run the country and want to take control of the net. Web 2.0 is now in the sights of politicians (and traditional media outlets), as it empowers ordinary people at the expense of their governments.
It is not a magnifier of hate, it is a barometer of it. The division in (for example) US politics and US society have not been fueled by social media but reflected in it. They have been fueled by Republican and Democrat politicians who have turned politics in the US into religious belief, supporters into zealots and radicalised their own divided nation.
'Regulation' is a tawdry euphemism, in our dystopic, Orwellian, euphemism-rich society, for 'state censorship'. The march to the Chinese model continues apace.
I do not trust Zuckerberg any more than I trust any other tech magnate. But I trust him more than any politician, left or right, of any party, anywhere. Zuckerberg just wants your money, and use of FB is voluntary. Politicians want to manipulate and control you, they want to charge you for doing it, and it won't be optional.

So will Twitter be next? Trump is probably eager to get his revenge.

I only hope FB can't use those photoshopped selfies in the Maldives against me.

it is well within the right of government to regulate a business in the public interest.
It’s happened with oil, railroads, kind of with airlines and now Facebook. This company is a cancer that mainlines misinformation and conspiracy into the public domain for profit, it knows its doing it. It does it anyway.
This is the very definition of a business that cannot regulate itself and requires government control for the public good.
The Avenger
Everyone with a brain already knows Facebook is a weapons grade propaganda delivery system.
