I imagine a lot are quite attractive, as other Middle Eastern women are.

@WA4TKG Really? That's all you've got to say?

Anyway, I'm glad to read they find a way to cope with their trauma and enjoy their freedom. Wish them the best!

Be surprised if they are ever going to hang out by the beach.

Also think they likely didn't talk to camera out of shyness/modesty and not because of fear for families back home....

It’s a good story. You compare the way these women’s lives are opening up with what they left behind at “home” and you have to feel sorry for those poor women still in Afghanistan, suffering under both the misrule of the Taliban and the ingrained inequalities of their society.

Afghan women under the Taliban's rule are suffering untold hardships and discrimination. One female doctor for more than 200,000 women many pregnant many dying at birth and the newborns too. No drugs or medicine.

These women are more fortunate.

It's an article under "world news', anti-democracy extremists must be defensive reading about the possible freedom available for most living in democracies and outside an authoritarian state; in authoritarian states most individuals have almost none. Good on Australia! This article is a good reminder of how stupid Bush and other US American warmongers were for deciding to invade Afghanistan, and how stupid PresidentObama and Trump were for continuing the war, and how hideous invading sovereign nations is.

Might surprise you, but in any subset of a population there are some attractive people and some unattractive ones.

Also think they likely didn't talk to camera out of shyness/modesty and not because of fear for families back home....

Glad you know more about these women than the person who actually spoke to them.

Which explains why it is in the ‘World’ section.

For the dolly dimples, that means ‘not in Japan’.

It's ridiculous that in 2022 these women have to be in a different country to do this.

Ossan, they probably get better treated than Japanese women, since you probably never lived in a country, where a woman feel she has to get the approval of a man to do anything

I am happy my country has opened places specifically for Afghan people, and is providing a free society in which they can live their lives and pursue their dreams, which they are unable to do in the country of their birth due to discrimination and primitive beliefs. The Taliban are a disgrace and IMO religions should never run country's. The separation of state and religion is one of the things Democracy got right.

The second class citizenship didn't start with the Taliban. This has been Pashtun/ Afghani culture for centuries.

FYI the best time for women's equality in Afghanistan was during the Soviet occupation. And guess who armed the Taliban with Saudi funding to replace them?

They were treated horrible, lots of them lost their culture, you are not naive of your country history

Those will be very useful skills for when they go back.

From what I’ve read, correct on all counts.

Congratulations. You must be the only person on the planet who thinks that women in Japan aren;t permitted to swim or drive.

Freedom Rocks.

Learning to swim is very important more important than learning to drive, If your a Foreigner in Australian going for a licence they make in more difficult, They don't discriminate but they really do EG. If I was going for a license and I forgot my glass they allow me to go and get them sit back down continue the test. If Foreigner / Aboriginal they would have to wait again. They would help me out if I could not comprehend word but with the Foreigner / Aboriginal they would not help out. I seen it happen and I assume it entrenched and cultural in their department. Good luck I hope they pull a decent person to deal with them.

Being that I’ve BEEN to Afghanistan, and you would NEVER KNOW if they are, otherwise they would be BEATEN and jailed (Which is now happening again ) if you could see their faces, Yes…I’m sure they’re happy some one else could notice they are, along with their common activities that that everyone else can do.

The British treated them very poorly. My country was not kind to them either when it was created in 1901. But it all pales in comparison to the treatment your country metered out to it's native inhabitants. I dont exactly see how this equates to a story of Afghan refugees being given assistance in Australia though. Or do you just want to put Australia down when you see us doing something nice for some people?

It’s nice to hear Afghan women not being treated like cattle.

20 years the idiots in my country, both Dem and Rep, as well as the UK and EU, occupied Afghanistan, with absolutely nothing to show for it except one guys head. Why oh why do we humans tolerate such leaders with their money printing scam?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I’m trying to imagine the same story in reverse. Refugees from a war torn and riven with ethnic conflict Australia, being similarly taught the ropes; the correct way to undertake communal prayer, living without staples such as alcohol, pork, and gambling.

A "good news story " still riles people up on this forum.

What's up? Is everyone just grumpy ?

I reckon you forgot what happened on 9-11-2001 and who protected the people who planned and executed that attack. Figure that out and you will understand why the US went to war with Afghanistan.
