That the EU is considering offering the corrupt Kiev regime membership, despite it banning opposition political parties and arresting opposition politicians is pretty revealing

-6 ( +22 / -28 )

You do understand most countries when invaded do the same thing, last thing you need when fighting for survival is domestic distractions. Those laws will be repealed once Russia is expelled. If they are not then no way will the EU welcome them.

8 ( +21 / -13 )

banning opposition political parties and arresting opposition politicians is pretty revealing

Do the extreme right's Kremlin sources say any opposition leaders in Ukraine been poisoned?

11 ( +23 / -12 )

I just realised Richard if in your post we replace Kiev with the word Putin you would actually be 100% correct.

5 ( +22 / -17 )

That the EU is considering offering the corrupt Kiev regime membership, despite it banning opposition political parties and arresting opposition politicians is pretty revealing

That you are focusing on Ukraine, & not on invading murdering Russia is pretty revealing.

6 ( +22 / -16 )

Any country that doesn't support Ukraine is supporting Putin. Ukraine did not ask to be invaded. We can deal with politics after the Russian invaders leave.

4 ( +19 / -15 )

The country where opposition is suppressed, where critiques are imprisoned is Russia.

So, guess you got the spelling wrong! No free press, opposing this insane war, trying to protest, all this will give you first a "ruble fine", repeating those actions lands you in prison (in Russia, let me remind you).

Talking about corruption, maybe you want to talk to people who live in Russia, in Siberia and hear what they have to say. The ones who got it made are those who are buddy-buddy with Putin, those who work for the state and those who are paying bribes. Maybe not that much different from some other countries, but not to that extreme!

7 ( +19 / -12 )

Let's tell the truth about these opposition parties, and their leaders now. These parties openly support Russia, the country currently invading them. Though ousted from power Viktor Medvedchuck was the leader of the pro-Russian "Opposition Platform- For Life." He was charged with treason in 2021 for providing material support for Russian-backed separatists. Vladimir Putin is his daughter's godfather.

I find it appalling that the EU, the U.S., Japan, etc. support a Ukranian regime that is corrupt, dictatorial and endorses the actions of neo-Nazi militias / brigades.

A lawyer representing a criminal doesn’t support the crime but the right to defense.

Being against putin does not equate supporting zelensky. It supports stopping finding dead kids buried under rubble.

8 ( +19 / -11 )

This Neo-Nazi propaganda is getting old. Ukrainian is a functioning democracy with a free press. It’s the aggressive neighbour that’s acting like Nazies.

0 ( +15 / -15 )

I find it appalling that

the only thing that is appalling is Putin invading a peaceful country & ordering his army to eliminate its citizens. Also appalling is people who support this.

But, hey, Putin is a bad guy,

At least you got one thing right

7 ( +18 / -11 )

the only thing that is appalling is Putin invading a peaceful country & ordering his army to eliminate its citizens. Also appalling is people who support this.

Love that you lap up CIA propaganda. Because they LOVE Ukraine.

And that you think I support Putin because I don't support the corrupt Zelensky regime?!

Such simplistic, binary thinking.

-7 ( +11 / -18 )

Orwell anyone?!

Here we go.

6 ( +13 / -7 )

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/20/ukraine-suspends-11-political-parties-with-links-to-russia

lol 1) The move was approved by the Ukrainian parliament, so not "dictatorial"

2) Do you really think it is reasonable to allow political parties to remain in office, when those parties are pro-Russian, and their leaders are caught on tape praising Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine? I certainly don't.

Sure, if you say so.....

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/10/azov-far-right-fighters-ukraine-neo-nazis

wow! The Azov battalion?! This is a totally new and original claim. How many people in the Azov battalion, and how many are actual neo-Nazis? Maybe some are, but I am certainly not willing to claim Ukrainians endorse neo-Nazis, because there happen to be a few in Ukraine. Also, Azov exists as a direct result of Russia funding separtists in Ukraine.

-1 ( +13 / -14 )

I really don’t want to have to say this, but the more this war drags on, the harder it seems to be getting for Ukraine to push back Russian aggression. Since it’s now very much a war of attrition, it’s a question of which country has the greater resources in men and materiel, and to me it seems likely that’s going to be Russia. All the aid pouring in to Ukraine, all the diplomatic encouragement like this move by the EU, doesn’t alter the fact that Russia is just bigger and stronger and its leader more ruthless. Sooner or later there will have to be a change in tactics on the Ukrainian side, just to put a stop to the killing and destruction. What Western countries should be thinking about - and probably are already - is what they’re going to do to assist Ukraine against further Russian territorial ambitions once this first war is over. Don’t forget - Putin swore to destroy Ukraine when this all began. He won’t forget being thwarted in that ambition.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

The West and EU need to equip Ukraine to take out Russian missile launchers and clear the Black Sea and the Ukrainian portion of the Sea of Azov. It mustn't wait.

Ukrainians will never forget the Russians' unprovoked attack upon them and the horror it has wrecked. The natural bond that existed between the two peoples has been severed by Putin and his cronies, perhaps for all time.

1 ( +12 / -11 )

Lots of people are looking out for their own survival, Ukraine is only a far thought now

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

There are some battles that shouldn’t be fought and this is one of them. You know you will lose but you still engaged the enemy resulting in death and destruction. Zelenskiy being an alumni of the Young Global Leaders school of the WEF did the bidding of his benefactors and went to war to create the globalists’ needed crisis. They thrive and gain power and control through crisis. Their motto:”Never let a good crisis go to waste”. This will isolate Russia who won’t cooperate with their global governance agenda. The same is what they are doing to China. Global governance is impossible when you have strong powers that are not cooperating.

-2 ( +9 / -11 )

Some folk commenting on here need to buy a dictionary and look up a few words like Genocide and Murder. How anyone can support putin and his orcs defies logic.

1 ( +12 / -11 )

Isn't Kharkiv the place that just a few weeks ago Ukraine posted a video claiming it had retaken the border and pushed Russian back across it?

Only for the regional Head of the SBU (Ukrainian intelligence) to claim the video was staged and people died making it?

Now I have posted links previous to the video and the accusations and counter accusations so I won't again.

But it comes down to a "he said he said"

Zelensky claims it was all real and the guys claims are false and he is angry because he was fired for refusing to follow orders,

He ( Roman Dudin) claims he was fired because Zelensky's political agenda was getting people killed and he dared challenge it!

So who is telling the truth? I don't know, but if Ukrane had pushed Russian back across the border as claimed in the video, it sure didn't last long.

This BTW is the 3rd regional SBU Head fired for supposedly not "fighting" for Ukraine.

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

You do realise that Russia wants the area as least damaged as possible otherwise

Well, someone forgot to tell the Russian forces this. They are wrecking shop. But, Ukraine will re-build and will come out of this stronger than ever.

It's ironic how Putin alludes his greatness to a dead guy named Peter the great while he drives his corrupt little country into the ground.

Russia is so big in geography and resources and so small because it is so corrupt.

It's ironic how Putin alludes his greatness to a dead guy named Peter the great while he drives his corrupt little country into the ground.

> Russia is so big in geography and resources and so small because it is so corrupt.

Can't argue on Putin or corruption all true except Russian inflation is going down while we are heading up and up, Canada heading to 8% UK surpassing 9% the USA suspending fuel taxes in a desperate attempt to slow inflation.

You failed to point out that Russia is also 90% if not more fully self-sufficient, this includes oil, gas, coal, electric, food, metals, and weapons.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Have you seen the pictures, reports, news and so on from

Yes now look up images of Sanaa!

now does Kyiv look like that.

You see your problem is the same as the rest.

You look at Ukraine without looking anywhere else.

Because that is what the USA, EU and the Media want you to do.

The need the SA oil even more now that Russian oil is cut off!

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

AS - do you have a source for your Russia inflation assertion? Everything I am seeing is showing double digit inflation for Russia.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

And you will find most things like that as we cannot upset SA

AS, there are a whole lot of us in the US who detest the KSA leadership and what they are doing. What tf does that have to do with what Russia is doing to the Ukrainians? Both are bad right?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

I just wish the war get concluded,so Biden can deal with his own issues,he should not be dedicating any time with Ukraine,if he wash his hands of this mess,I would not hold it against him

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Looking at Kyiv, I guess Ukrainian Forces did a pretty good job preventing a 3-day-speical-limited operation to succeed!

Oh please if Russia had launched an all out bombing with heavy bombers Kyiv would look like Sanaa.

Lets be real here,

I am not supporting Russia I am trying to get people to drop their fanatasy that Ukraine is somehow doing well.

Russia has not launched any heavy bombers and if this was an all out war one where Russia didn't care at all on capturing and keeping territory it could just sit back and drop bomb after bomb from heavy bombers until nothing is left.

What to know what I mean look up Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg 1945.

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

Ukraine is undergoing some hard times to be sure.

And not for nothing, it USED to be very corrupt. THEN they had a little revolution and threw out Puttie's goon. Perhaps some of us remember that? And they elected Zelensky BECAUSE he ran on an anti-corruption platform.

I think that any rational person not addicted to RT or Faux, will realize that the good guys are the ones being invaded. Fortunately, the leaders of the West seem to have realized this rather obvious point.

One can only hope that they continue to put their money where their mouth is. We talk about the MIGHTY Russian army, but there is an upper limit on what they can endure. As of now, they are pulling T-62s out of mothballs because all their fancy newer tanks seem to be exploding jack-in-the-box items.

What Ukraine really needs is artillary and a LOT of ammo.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

So much horrible and senseless pain caused by one very sick man.

Putin has got to go!

Look WSJ published just a few days ago.

I said going down didn't say low.

I pointed out Russia going down us going up.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

AS - Ukraine as the defender "wins" by holding on. They may eventually decide to talk with Russia and they may lose land, I am not trying to make a prediction on this. As long as Ukraine choses to fight against the invaders, then we are duty-bound imho to provide them with as much lethal, non-lethal, and humanitarian aid as they ask for. A secondary benefit is that this hurts Russia, and the ROI on this relatively minimal amount of spending is a good one.

I don't think Putin is crazy. He has been a relatively rational actor so far, albeit with nefarious motives. Nobody is talking about invading Russia right now, at least nobody is serious.

Of course I don't want a wider war, but I feel the bigger sin is the appeasement of an aggressor.

When in the late 30's / early 40's would have been best to stop appeasement in Europe, in your opinion?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

how about this fact?

"Ukraine won’t get a VIP pass to join the EU, France says"

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

Ok, I'm gonna concede this point to you in the hopes that it calms you down, but going from 17.8% down to 17.1% is not the flex you imagine it is.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

downvote France, they said it.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

No, but its good they arent given a VIP pass to EU membership.

They have corruption issues that need to be solved, both as a country and from their leader.

-8 ( +8 / -16 )

No, but its good they arent given a VIP pass to EU membership.

Right. We wouldn't want to do anything to stop Russia from raping and pillaging the country, would we?

1 ( +10 / -9 )

Blacklabel - good to see you so concerned about the inner workings of the EU, of which you are not a part.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Right. We wouldn't want to do anything to stop Russia from raping and pillaging the country, would we?

Who is "we"? You can talk to France, they said it.

Blacklabel - good to see you so concerned about the inner workings of the EU, of which you are not a part.

Talk to France, which is a part of the inner workings, they said it. they seem to have some concerns. why dont you?

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

We wouldn't want to do anything to stop Russia from raping and pillaging the country,

also how would Ukraine joining the EU tomorrow stop this?

The EU is not NATO, and NATO wont be doing anything to stop that either. so talk to NATO too.

Im just sharing what was said by an EU member and the reality of the current situation.

No VIP pass to EU, says France. So be mad at them (and NATO).

Today 11:55 am JST

Ok, I'm gonna concede this point to you in the hopes that it calms you down, but going from 17.8% down to 17.1% is not the flex you imagine it is

Here are a few facts.

There is now a mutiny Brewing among the financial experts.

The heads of multiple banks and financial institutions are saying raising interest rates is only causing more trouble and pain. (Articles available on CBC, BBC, CNN and Fox)

The solution is lower fuel prices.

Seems some are listening as the USA suddenly suspended fuel taxes.

Other articles are also pointing out Russia's advantage on lowering inflation is exactly what these anti interest rates hike economists are pointing out, as long as they can keep fuel cost down the inflation will go down.

Russia was bad before the invasion but because it controls it own fuel supply and internal pricing, it may beat the problem before we do.

Now this is all speculation by so-called experts but looks like the USA is heading the same direction.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Who is "we"? You can talk to France, they said it.

I'm talking about you. You made the prescriptive statement that it is "good" that Ukraine will not be given a "VIP" pass to the EU. Why is that good? From one American to another, I'm not sure why one would care about Ukraine's admission to the EU, unless, of course, one wants Ukraine to continue to be plundered.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Talk to France, which is a part of the inner workings, they said it. they seem to have some concerns. why dont you?

They were just reiterating that there is no fast-track or VIP process to EU membership. IOW, Ukraine has to undergo the same process and criteria that all candidate states do. The process takes time and that's fine. It is aspirational and I think it is clearer now than ever that Ukraine is European and not Russian.

Maybe you aren't aware of it, but it is fairly easy to see that you kinda sorta side with Russia, or at the least are against Ukraine. Just FYI.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

why do I have to be for or against either?

I simply mentioned what France said and that I agree with it.

it is clearer now than ever that Ukraine is European and not Russian.

no, I dont believe so. do more people speak Russian or a European langauge?

is their culture and history European or Russian?

I will give you that in this exact moment it would be super helpful and super convenient for Ukraine to claim they are European. To get money, draw Europe into the war, which then draws Biden into their war.

I would be more concerned about the fact that Biden rarely mentions Ukraine anymore, and only Putin as an excuse for inflation, gas prices, the border, on and on

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

When in the late 30's / early 40's would have been best to stop appeasement in Europe, in your opinion?

My view!

You will not like it!

I say let Europe burn!

Yep Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Poland, France, UK, etc..

I am tired my family is tired of the constant vendetta system that the Europeans cannot stop.

WW1, WW2 both vendetta war, do was the Franco, Prussian war, etc...

Every time they have a score to settle they drag the rest of us into it.

My grandfather left the UK because of it only to have the UK drag Canada into the next war.

Pierre Eliot Trudeau the father of the fool PM we have now was arrested for anti draft protesting in Canada, he was against Canada ever a8 being dragged into another European war.

Yesterday in this comment section a German complained about Kaliningrad or as he called it, Königsberg.

Here is what he said;

Russia does not deserve this beautiful territory and if this Russian agression continues Königsberg should be returned to Deutschland and the EU so Russia can never again use it as an excuse for war or extortion by Russia against Europe.

I said what next the return of the rest of east Prussia including the parts now in Poland and Lithuania?

Does any of this sounds familiar?

You understand that in the 30s and 40s the OUN UPA were killing people to cleans ukra6of Poles, Lithuanians, Russians,Jews and today they are officially heroes in Ukraine by law in 2015.

The entire place could burn to the ground, Paris London, Moscow Kyiv etc... I don't care as long as we are left out of another world war cause by European vendettas.

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

about Ukraine's admission to the EU, unless, of course, one wants Ukraine to continue to be plundered.

because admission to the EU wouldnt stop that.

and would set a poor precedent for adding non EU countries to the EU just to fall under the Europe umbrella of NATO too and finally, the ultimate goal, to fall under the United States of America responsibilities for NATO and EU.

I see Ukraine flags all over social media and TV by American supporters. Even seen an American flag in Ukraine, other than maybe the US embassy?

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

no, I dont believe so. do more people speak Russian or a European langauge?

They speak both Russian and Ukrainian, which are both European languages. And it's irrelevant anyway, because that doesn't determine whether a country is "European" or not. The people of Ukraine overwhelmingly support joining the EU, and that makes Putin a sad little boy, which is part of way he invaded.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accession_of_Ukraine_to_the_European_Union#:~:text=91%25%20of%20Ukrainians%20support%20joining,from%2066.4%25%20in%20February%202015.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

They speak both Russian and Ukrainian, which are both European languages.

oh so can Russia join the EU too as they speak a "European" language? come on, man.

If its irrelevant, why mention it as your only justification of why they can join Europe when they arent Europe.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

because admission to the EU wouldnt stop that.

Yes it would. Membership to the EU also includes collective defense agreements.

and would set a poor precedent for adding non EU countries to the EU just to fall under the Europe umbrella of NATO too and finally, the ultimate goal, to fall under the United States of America responsibilities for NATO and EU.

All non-EU countries are non-EU until they join. Again, as an American, how does joining the EU affect you? Even just assuming Ukraine is a corrupt country, how does it affect Americans? Obviously it doesn't unless you support the rape and pillage of Ukraine.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

The people of Ukraine overwhelmingly support joining the EU,

so do the people of all the African countries too? so? anybody can join the "European" Union?

Maybe some other countries would like to join the United States of "America" too, is that cool?

Ukraine is not European. they are trying to join for money and protection and to draw the USA and Europe into their war to be required to put boots on the ground.

no thanks.

So many posters miss the simple fact that it’s Russia that started this, invaded a neighboring country, murdering their people, and destroying their cities. Ukraine is defending itself against the invaders.

When Russia stops then it immediately. There is NOTHING that can justify what Russia did and is continuing to do so the point should be how to get Putin to stop and be held accountable! That’s it!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

so do the people of all the African countries too? so? anybody can join the "European" Union?

lol How do you think membership to the EU decided?

The majority of Ukrainians support EU membership, so they elected Zelensky. Zelensky and the Ukrainian government in turn, have applied for EU membership. If they successfully complete the application process, they will be admitted into the EU.

anybody can join the "European" Union?

Yes. Any country that wants to join the EU, AND meets the EUs criteria may become a member of the EU. Russia doesn't want to join the EU, which is why they aren't in it.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Kyo Wa - You seem upset that Ukraine gave Russia a taste of their own medicine. Don't worry too much, this is not the first time, nor will it be the last. Russia should probably just say yes to peace.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Russia has now been attacked and Putin will officially declare war ? ?

What's your opinion ?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

When you are arguing against Ukraine, you are setting yourself on the wrong side of history.

There are many grey-area conflicts. This isn't one of them.

Puttie has delusions of grandure.

Puttie needs to distract from his bad domestic performance.

So Puttie makes up insane theories about Nazis and NATO so that he can take his people's attention from the fact that they live in an undemocratic thug-ocracy where corruption is rampant (which really makes the "Ukraine is corrupt" argument laughable).

If (big if) the West holds to it's values (ignores the ignorant) and gives the Ukranian army the equipment it needs AND SOON, they will most likely fight off the poorly trained, poorly lead Russians, most of whom wish they could just go home.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

AS

Don't know about mutiny but , BBC, CBC, CNN and more are reporting mass desertion among the ranks of Ukrainian forces.

This was backed up by UK military reports.

No point in posting links just Google Ukraine troops desertion.

You do realize that Russia’s parliament, has proposed a new law that would impose harsh penalties against Russian soldiers who deserts or citizen that supports Ukraine as well?

Why was that? Certainly not because there are no Russian desertions now was it?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Did anyone read the article.

Ukraine, would first have to be at peace, this includes breakaway regions.

It would next have to get corruption under control, seeing it is more corrupt than most developing countries and second in corruption in Europe to Russia.

The chances of it becoming a member are slim to none.

But, that said there are a few backdoor proposals to offer fast track to Ukraine with Russian blessings ( AKA cheap fuel restored) if a "peace deal" can be reached.

To me that sounds like a bribe, give up XYZ regions and sign a peace agreement with Russia and become an EU member in record time.

Certain left wing French publications are saying their sources are reporting these proposals.

Again pure rumour but the Normal membership route doesn't help Ukraine now, as this rumoured proposal would.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Because you make prescriptive statements about it being "good" that Ukraine won't become a member of the EU.

I really want Zelensky's work/life balance.

Yes, I'm sure it must be quite the life knowing the army invading your country wants to have you executed. I'm also sure it's fun to visit wounded soldiers in hospitals and widows of slain soldiers. The hate is just disgusting.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

So Puttie makes up insane theories about Nazis and NATO

Well to be fair, he didn't make any of it up, he did exaggerate it a lot but the basis was fact.

Ukraine did and does have a fascist element in power including groups like Azov and NATO is getting closer to Russia.

Neither are justification but they are facts.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Is the USA part of this?

You are interesting.

You seem very angry when facts don't meet your liking.

Just because someone points out facts not wishful thinking and those facts are not what you want to hear doesn't mean they support the other side it means these are the facts.

The facts are even in the above article it will take several years to even come close to EU membership for Ukraine.

If pointing this out is supporting Russia them I guess under your logic, Reuters is supporting Russia.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Yes, its my allowable opinion. I dont want the USA being dragged into this war,

Yes, and then people respond critically to that claim. What's the problem with that?

Is the USA part of this?

Obviously it isn't. The US isn't in the EU, is it?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Obviously it isn't. The US isn't in the EU, is it?

so when an EU member who is also a member of NATO gets attacked then what happens under NATO defense agreements?

See? its tricky.

You can criticize all you want about my opinion by sharing your own differing opinion.

But you dont do that, you try to convince your buddies here that my opinion is wrong.

its not, you just dont like it.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

so when an EU member who is also a member of NATO gets attacked then what happens under NATO defense agreements?

Lol No Black, if a NATO member is attacked by a foreign country, then NATO would collectively defend that member, because they're a member of NATO. EU membership wouldn't affect that, because the US isn't in the EU.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

EU membership wouldn't affect that, because the US isn't in the EU.

so under being a member of NATO, the US would join the war if an EU and NATO member is attacked.

I fail to see any difference.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

so under being a member of NATO, the US would join the war if an EU and NATO member is attacked.

Black, NATO is itself a defensive alliance. If a member of NATO were attacked, all other members would join in their assistance. Regardless of their EU status.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

so under being a member of NATO, the US would join the war if an EU and NATO member is attacked.

Yeah, that's not new. That's how it works.
