Greetings from Nanook, captain of the spaceship you call Oumuamua. We have given your planet wide berth after discovering that you, the self-described intelligent beings, are destroying your own planet. We have accelerated to get away from your solar system as fast as we can. Goodbye.

And this is wrong with the current generation. Everything for likes and thumbs ups.

A highly advanced civilization making contact with us is an exciting prospect. If they land in the US they will likely be bemused and befuddled by our mix of modernity and quaintness. Once they meet with our leaders I'm sure they will be reassured as to how advanced we . . .
Oh wait . . .

Didn't you read the bit about them Naruto-running?

The guards, also known as the 'camo dudes' are private contractors, and are licensed to kill. Military and police back up from Nellis Air Force Base and Las Vegas is less than an hour away. The terrain and scrub with the joshua trees is not easy to walk across, let alone run, and most of these people have never been on the ground there; I was there a few years ago. The place is crawlng with detection equipment.

Can someone get some drone footage for us? Should be fun to watch a few thousand fleeing in terror.

There is no evidence that the media is pushing this as an attack on the government.
Vince Black
They've been prepared for such a thing for a long time. Even if 1 million storm it there'll be no evidence. Contingency plans have been in place for decades to hide the evidence, but it's a good idea

Best book I've read on Roswell, Area 51 and little green men I've read is:
*"The Day After Roswell"*** by Col. Philip J. Corso (USAF, Ret.)**
Corso claimed to have seen the little alien bodies and was assigned by the military to pass the UFO contents and computer circuitry on to companies like IBM anonymously back in the day. The responses of the scientists are basically like, Where did you get this?! To which Corso tells them he was never there and that they're to forget all about him. The alien technology, if you believe Col. Corso, was thousands of years (or more) ahead of our own.

The human race is doomed. Utter morons.

I'm going.

If you try to penetrate this installation you will be shot dead. Simple.

Dumb idea! They get anywhere near that place either they’ll be stopped in their tracks or they’ll be killed by the constant military training exercises. Dumb idea people, just leave it.

Why September 20?

Thanks for the memories.

The memes on Twitter are definitely a great source of laughs. I particularly enjoyed the aliens dancing to a remixed version of the Macarena. It was a little worrying to see the suggestion of "Naruto running." A bit of a weebish suggestion, and not at all practical since it would actually make you easier to shoot. That is, if shooting occurs. Most likely there'll be something akin to riot police around with tear gas and water cannons. Well, maybe not water cannons actually. Cold water in a hot desert? That'd just encourage people, even if it does come out at high pressure with enough force to floor you in an instant.
There is nothing accurate about this at all. The media are reporting it because it's become a viral craze, trending on Twitter for quite some time now, and is being talked about in countries around the world. It's kind of hard for the media to ignore something like that. Don't attack the media like Trump does. You can be better than that.
True. And more often than not, innocent people get hurt in the process. But hey, who cares when you get 15k likes and 2k new followers, right? Ethics, morality... I doubt the current generation could even spell those, let alone tell you what they mean.

It's was easy for the news media not to notice, or chose to ignore, the fact that the original facebook page clearly stated that this whole thing was a joke. It can't be all that difficult for any "reporter" to actually read the entire facebook page BEFORE they "report" on its content.
arrestpaul
The news media outlets failed (once again) to verify the facts of the story they were "reporting" on. This facebook story was joke from the very beginning. The un-verified/un-vetted news reading by the talking-heads on TV, and the mindless cut-and-paste reporting by internet reporters should be considered unacceptable. Unfortunately, many people seem to enjoy this type of lazy, or biased, alleged reporting.
Cogito Ergo Sum
This is just plain dumb . That's a security installation and should they try, certainly some people are going to die. I doubt 1 million people would go but even if 1% go that's still huge, and there's no way of knowing which elements will be among them. I would not board a bus if I've been told that 5 out of 50 passengers might die on this particular trip.
sourpuss
Everything wrong with the internet is exemplified in this case.
arrestpaul
Ha, ha, ha, ha. This is just priceless. On January 14, 2019, someone on facebook posts a joke, identified it is a joke, and some fellow facebookers go along with the joke. Until the main stream news media stumbles on the joke, and think it's a real attack on the government. This is the next Boaty McBoatface, folks, and the media outlets still can't be bothered to verify their stories BEFORE "reporting" on them.

I just heard that Area 51 is actually the U.S. version of Hogwarts. No wizards or witches, but it is overrun by house elves, and muggles.

I think they said on the radio here that so far there's something like 40,000 people that have scheduled trips to the area.
Most that show up will decide it's way too hot and just go home.
As for the rest, well, those A-10 pilots can always use more live-fire training.
Serrano
How much ya wanna bet nowhere near 1,3 million of these people will show up.

No, no, CrazyJoe, Cap'n Nanook is supposed to disable all non-life threatening electrical systems on the Earth for an hour or so as a warning not to destroy ourselves. Of course after seeing Trump getting along with Putin and Kim he might just give him a pat on the back instead.

Yep! We sure got some real idiots in our House of Representatives. Senate too, but not as many.
