I think most, if not all, countries have. Some, for nefarious reasons like China, Japan, Egypt , and others for logistical reasons like India. The death toll is FAR higher than is being reported.
Blacklabel
so when did this undercounting happen? Is is still going on right now?
Fauci sure loves talking without really telling us anything at all.

You can read the report from the university, Blacklabel. It's free and on-line.
Blacklabel
So Fauci didn’t tell us when this happened and also disagrees with the actual number but doesn’t tell us why or what his number is.
useless comments from him as usual.

Undercounting or overcounting is just what all people in positions of power do (and have always done) to cover their backsides or boost their authority and prestige. Deceit is deeply embedded in our (political) genes. The hoodwinked public is far too trusting and gullible because they have no means of holding dissembling governments to account. For democracy to thrive more skepticism of the rational, not paranoid kind, is needed.

I can't imagine there's any way to tell the exact number of deaths there are. That doesn't mean the virus isn't real or we should ignore the safety standards.
The fact still stands that if you refuse to vaccinate and refuse to follow safety standards you are potentially killing others and definitely hurting the economy. Live with your choice instead of always deflecting to Fauci.

Considering excess death, undercounted deaths are obvious, but more than 900,000 is too much.
Blacklabel
The US probably will be back to normal by next Mother's Day, if enough people get vaccinated against Covid-19, Fauci said on ABC News.
Next Mothers Day, huh?
Happy Day
Proof?
CDC’s own stats indicate only 6% of U.S. COVID deaths are FROM COVID. The rest had COVID but died from something else like cancer, COPD, car crashes, etc.
The U.S. COVID mortality rate is worse than Japan’s, as Americans are not as healthy, but it is not 50 times worse.
Fauci is nothing more than a paid propagandist.

Conservatives trust politicians more than scientists.
Jsapc
People who trust right-wing pundits and politicians over an actual doctor for public health matters really need to think long and hard about their whole system of values.

Why do people still listen to him? He will likely flip-flop like he did with the masks.
Anyway, this new study is just and indirect estimation "based on measurement of the excess death rate during the pandemic week by week compared to what would have been expected based on past trends and seasonality."
There were also studies that showed that the actual covid death toll is lower than the official count, that many in the official count died with covid and not from covid.

@Blacklabel
The undercounting began with trump's incompetence! He told his supporters at a "Superspreader trump rally". Just like he openly told Russia to hack the DNC! All US government failures including deaths for the last 4 years lead back to trump.
Stevie Wonder can see that!

blacklabel:
He's just factoring in all those crazy GQP and QAnon members who are hell bent on keeping the numbers up by ignoring any safety precautions. Otherwise, it could be back to normal sooner. But then again, if the crazies carry on, they might cause their own demise and also help to bring the date forward.
We need a Fauci sensei in Japan. It's been estimated that the "official" numbers in Japan are 10% of the real ones.

Thinking long and hard will trip them up at the first hurdle.

When the hospitals make extra bucks for treating covid patients, there is no way they are undercounting.
Blacklabel
so I suppose there are even more deaths under the Biden administration than the 150,000+ already reported.
Jsapc
As there are even more deaths under the Trump administration than the +460,000 already reported, yeah.
What's your point?
SuperLib

Fauci sure loves talking without really telling us anything at all.
but a University of Washington study released Thursday estimated deaths at more than 900,000.
But I think there's no doubt... that we are and have been undercounting,..
Think that's how they are trying to report the real or close to real numbers, so we have study by some university estimating a different number and almost immediately but subtly is backed up by Fauci.. as for Fauci he has been at this position since 1984.. that's one reason why folks on this permanent positions, they never retire, can play at as this want it.
Blacklabel
Masks only protect me from giving coronavirus to others.
As I don’t HAVE coronavirus that’s impossible for me to do.
your own double mask and your own vaccination can protect you even if I did have it, right? So I’m just wearing a mask to make YOU feeeel better.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
It wouldn't surprise me at all if we're undercounting. My stepfather supposedly had it, had all the classic symptoms, but refused to get tested. My parents are conservatives and I doubt they're the only folks to refuse to get tested. It's not hard to imagine others were infected by folks refusing to get tested and die without being diagnosed with Covid 19.

Don't worry. Trump promised that it will have gone away by last summer.

When's the next US census?
That should have a better picture.

Fauci now found out something most rational people and conservatives as well as no-partisan physicians already knew. Just ask Cuomo, he’s being sued for deliberately undercounting the deaths of people that died in nursing homes. Disgusting!
mmwkdw
Its slowly coming out now, that COVID-19 was probably China's CCP's trial run of a new BioWeapon. And, somehow Fauci was involved in it's development...
Jsapc
So you're saying that conservatives who have been repeatedly downplaying the whole pandemic for over a year now actually knew that the death count was much worse then reported?
That makes them really horrible leaders and even worse people, then.
Blacklabel
as it related to Andrew Cuomo putting people with COVID into nursing homes instead of using the resources he was given, certainly we knew this was being criminally and purposefully underreported.
bass4funk
They didn’t that’s why Trump pushed for operation “warp speed” in under a year.
And most of those deaths were in the largest cities so again, why didn’t leader like Cuomo, Whitmer and Newsom were silent on....yeah, politics and the general election, I keep forgetting.
And this is why Newsom will be the first to go as well as Cuomo and Whitmer

US has "no doubt" been undercounting fatal cases, top advisor Fauci said. Now he says 'no doubt' after the revelation by Washington University.
What is he up to?
What else can he do apart from talking?
SuperLib
Do you wear a mask and follow safety precautions?
Jsapc
Oh wait, so now Trump didn't say the virus would dissapear by itself when summer comes? And the governors of red states didn't ignore all lockdowns and safety precautions because covid-19 was a hoax? And republicans didn't claim that the death count was actually vastly overcounter because corona is just the flu?
No wait... they actually all did. You just live in an alternate reality.

Blacklabel
its almost as if you said Trump had nothing to do with the vaccine.... but now claim he does.
bass4funk
He did and in the beginning he was more skeptical about the disease, and later changed, become more serious and understood the threat better and started to take action in finding a vaccine for the public, but that’s a far cry from what Cuomo, Newsom and Whitmer did in hiding and downplaying the deaths in their States.
Which they found out that most of it was all political and when other people in Red States saw that people could work, go to school, have no lockdowns and live freely and happily, that’s when a lot of people thought to move out of these mismanaged States.
Unlike doctors in Dem States are pretty much pushed to write down that the cause of death for everything is literally related to COVID.
Happy Day
Many schools in the U.S. are still closed to in-person learning due to guidance from the CDC. The CDC’s guidance was based on input from the teachers union.
It is criminal that U.S. COVID policy has been shaped by politics and not science. Many have needlessly suffered, especially in States like California and New York.
Blacklabel
because the CDC says so. you know, "the science".
"If I have already had COVID-19 and recovered, do I still need to get vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine? Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. That's because experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19."
SuperLib
That's certainly why he took the vaccine in secret without telling anyone.
SuperLib

So what you're saying now is that the death count is overcounted again? You said all conservatives knew it was undercounted an hour ago. So to sum up, conservatives constantly downplay the virus because it's just like the flu, but they know the death count is vastly undercounted, except in blue states where it's overcounted by doctors, except in the blue states where it's undercounted by the democratic governors, but in red states it's not over or undercouted because the lockdowns were only political anyway and people could move freely so less people died because covid-19 is just like the flu anyway.
...Makes sense.
