Heat wave blasts Pacific Northwest states

I thought those temps only hit the Northwest when antifa burns buildings in protests.

Sure weather goes up and down, but the goal average temperature has only been going up for the past four decades. And at an alarming rate. It hasn't been going down.

The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures of 43 C in Portland by Sunday or Monday. The NWS is calling for 48 degrees C at Furnace Creek Visitors Center the same day by way of comparison while upper Mojave Desert communities are supposed to range from 40-44 C depending on the locale and its elevation. It is insane for Portland to be as hot as the Mojave Desert in the summer. It just doesn't happen.

Yes, sometimes places aren't experiencing record breaking heat waves or polar blasts, or record setting droughts or catastrophic rainfall.

Well, until the climate crisis becomes the climate disaster a failure to take the science seriously is going turn into the minimum we can expect to see soon.

The reality is that even a MAJOR injection of ash into the upper atmosphere by a volcano isn't going to reverse the global warming trend anymore because the reduction in the absorption of heat that such an event causes temporarily is offset by the increased absorption and retention of heat due to the increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. We're almost at the point where even a CATASTROPHIC injection of ash, the sort that would trigger an ice age in the past, won't do more than temporarily slow things down and take some of the edges off the disaster.

People have become so used to reading between the lines these days that even an innocuous remark gets downvoted. Nowhere am I saying that climate change is not real.

Just that where I come from we regularly get highs of 48 or 49 during summers and lows of 1 or 2 degree C during winters. That has been true since my childhood. But what has visibly changed is that winters are coming in late in recent years and the winter season has become shorter.

People who are still denying climate change should be forced to live in the Death Valley.

The overall trend line is increasing average temperatures each and every year. It is not a trend line that is going up and down across a horizontal line. The average increased every year and is doing so at an increasing rate. Please stop trying to distort the truth.

Washing machines go in a circle. Sometimes clothes are on the left, sometimes they are on the right.

Sometimes you machine gets unbalanced, and all of a sudden it goes too far right, then two far left, shakes the hell out of the whole washer, and threatens to rip itself apart.

That's what climate change is. The fluctuations you discuss are the natural cyles of a washing machine. We aren't talking about those. We have an unbalanced load. It keeps getting hotter AND colder around the world, pushing the extremes further and further.

Given that the recorded history is rather short, and earlier records are not precise, it doesn't mean very much. A few hot (or cold) days are a weather event, not indicative of "climate change". Yes, there IS actual climate change. The Earth's climate has ALWAYS been changing. The "Year Without a Summer" was climate change and not a weather event, and it had a dramatic global impact, but it was also temporary, a blip.

This is also a blip.

Climates change on this and all planets. The one we live on had ice ages. We’ve had desert ages. We aren’t helping things get better, but we are also unable to change the course of this change. Adapt or perish.

And when a volcano or two like Mount St. Helens erupts again and spreads its ash throughout the northern hemisphere, they will return to their chilly summers.

People who are still denying climate change should be forced to live in the Death Valley.

People who deny that climate always changes and is normal should be forced to live without heating and air conditioning.
