"Authorities previously resisted the kind of draconian measures seen in worse-hit countries -- but have now ordered the closure of all businesses deemed non-essential as well as schools, and have asked people to stay home."

Well, at least one country is doing it right and knows what's right. You can't fight the virus pretending it'll skip people commuting and crowding for work and only stick around for social gatherings. Japan will realise this in about a month, after tens of thousands more infected and thousands dead.

It seems only SK got it right.

"It feels like a dead city, everyone is scared, they're all hiding at home,"

Maybe the news media outlets claiming 'it's just a flu/cold' and the social media trolls and flamers saying the same thing have low credibility in Singapore. If so, good. Too bad those media outlets, trolls and flamers have influenced so many in Japan and the US. And have continued to be allowed to do so.

Can someone please provide our dear PM Abe with this article?

It should show (teach?) him how to handle this pandemic the correct way.

But, maybe, just maybe the English is also too difficult for him to understand.

This is the correct way. Close means close, no grey abt it.

It seems Taiwan has done the best job in the world in "arresting" this virulent disease!

South Korea and Taiwan - that's it. Correct observation.

Regardless of our views about the Government here - You cannot do what Singapore have done here. Its impossible. Poplulation Wise/Literally a tiny City State.

You cannot do what Singapore have done here. Its impossible.

It's highly improbable, but possible, IF and only IF it gets to the point of like New York here.

Its only possible here - if you have enforced lockdown at home for ALL persons apart from Doctors/Nurses and other health professionals. You would actually have to close Public Transport, Cease food distribution and close the entire financial system down. Japan is not nearly ready IT wise for the Stock Market/JGB market market to function remotely. So - basically is it impossible.

Too many people - Period.

Dear Leader is beholden to other forces in his decision making.Hence a good part of his inaction.

Absolutely. If we start to get a NY situation in Tokyo, you'll see a lockdown
