Greta provides us with an example of the ferocity needed to change the status quo. Go Greta!! But now, we all have to stand up and go with her too.

What a captivating messenger!

I love how she threw the right winger logic right back in their face by pointing out that she should be in school, not having to deal with this.

Wonder if she’ll still be a magnet of talk next year this time or just another passing fad.

Why didn’t she list China or India on her complaint list? She only listed Western countries for some reason. Hmmmm...

"How dare" she not mention population control as the only real solution to taming greenhouse emissions. Until she does, all she's doing is emitting a lot of hot air.

The elites need waking up or replaced. They are completely disconnected from reality and live in their own little bubbles of opulence. We are on a dangerous road and many societies have failed for this very reason.

Spot on. Africa's birthrate -in particular- is out of control (Niger 7 kids per W, mali, congo etc over 5) which will mean an even bigger refugee/migrants crisis in the next few decades.

I don't mind Greta but she's all over the place (which is pretty normal for a teen). Needs to be more realistic and pragmatic; start telling other teens to learn how to consume less, that out of control consumerism is killing the planet, tell them they don't need the new iphone 11/video game/cool jacket, help them/us set simple achievable goals etc.

Yes, Greta (and she has crossed the line where only the single, bare, name is all that is needed to identify her) did indeed give a pretty clear warning to the 'leaders' of the world that they are about to be driven out of power, and likely tried for their individual and collective failure.

And that all the old labels and divisions (left/right, capitalist/communist, east/west, north/South, dictator/democrat, liberal/conservative, first world/third world) are going to be irrelevant when talking about the sides of this struggle.

Her dire warnings and the like should be treated with the respect they deserve. How much credit would you give to a non-graduate of high school on other important issues- the economy, immigration, etc? Probably not much. The same standard applies here. Passion does not equal competence. Reducing complicated issues to soundbites does noone any good.

That's right. Now what all you people need to do, is stop using logic, and instead follow the ideology of a political party in America, rather than the findings of the scientists who have dedicated their lives to the study of climate.

Get with the program boys and girls. Republican Ideology FTW!

It takes no particular skill or ability to call for change. I would be more impressed if I heard some concrete ideas as to how to make such change come about. For one, how about if the protestors actually protested in the countries which are the largest contributors to carbon emission- China, India, etc? Maybe they could all get in a sailboat and cross the Pacific to spread their message in Asia... I'm sure it would go over VERY well with Xi in China...

As others have said, this is not a partisan political issue, nor one that concerns one country only.

And yet the people ensuring that nothing is done come from the ideology of one political party in one country, who would have people believe that the status quo makes more sense than the findings of scientists who have dedicated the lives to the study of the matter.

I agree. Trump and the global alt right have been able to manipulate many of their followers using easy to remember slogans.

Google "ways to stop global warming". I got 190,000 sites.

The US is number 2 on the list I saw. Perhaps she's a realist who knows the best place to start is by spreading her message in states with some bits of democracy remaining. India's a democracy, though it's led by a right wing authoritarian. Russia's number 4, but its economy is based on selling fossil fuels, so fat chance. China is farther ahead in developing alternatives to burning so much fossil fuel, but stuck behind an authoritarian system with low regard for the world's peoples. Even its own.

Some just don't get what she's doing.

She's not on the world stage to initiate local plastic reduction schemes, tell India to quit coal or the like.

She's simply bringing in your face attention to the unfolding crisis of climate change.

No-one else has been able to make those in charge (Govt / Corporate Inc) sit up, listen and squirm.

She doesn't want to do this. She want's to be in school.

She doesn't want any praise or accolades.

She doesn't itemize solutions - she says follow-the-science and submitted the IPCC report as where to begin.

What she does want is for those in charge to grasp the reality of climate change and stop dithering with motives based on pursuit of eternal economic goals that may cross their laws of wealth gathering.

The fact it's taken a 16 year old non-native english speaker who speaks more eloquently than many leaders, to shake up Establishment Inc, is actually an indictment on the quality of governance we have in the world.

How comfortable ! Even without having to go for the climate change denier, you can just brush it at not being your problem.

The only real solution is population control. Let me guess which countries have low birth rate. which have birth rate ? Which countries produce a lot of greenhouse gas, which do not ?

People should be protesting in the country which are the largest producer of greenhouse as : European Union, USA. Well, seems to me they do.

And for who are the stuff produced in China ? The environmental cost of your new made in China smartphone/computer/shoes/... is on you (in the limit of the information you can gather and alternative choice) and the company producing it. Putting all of it on China is a bit easy.

It is our mistake, our misbehavior, our problem.

Was she forced to come speak to these UN clowns, was she?

I am pretty sure she agreed to go speak to them; it seems like hyperbole to suggest that the UN clowns stole her childhood or whatever. If she were being treated like a slave to go an tell these clowns how she sees things, that'd be a human rights problem.

Her grandstanding aside, I am all for everyone doing their bit to be a good global environmental citizen. How much carbon dioxide was emitted to transport this lady to speak to the UN clown though?

Haven't the UN clowns heard of the Internet yet? Abolishing travel to these outdated "in person" conferences is the first thing they could do to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

They flew her to NY in an airplane?

That settles it. Climate change is fake.

Case closed.
