U.S. has racked up more than 155,000 coronavirus deaths, by far the most of any country,

But Trump and his fellow plutocrats don't care because the majority of people killed and the nearly 5,000,0000 sickened by the virus in addition to the majority of those who have lost jobs because of the virus are working and middle class, not 'elite' like Trump, his family and fellow privileged class members.

Where are all those red-cap-wearing rubes who complain about their rights and freedoms being infringed by having to wear a mask, who occupy statehouses dressed in camo while carrying weapons, and who chant "USA, USA - We're #1, We're #1 now?

Ha

Staying home, ya know, family people. And to answer your question another way, check out the first sentence.

Fourth of July gatherings, graduation parties, no-mask weddings, crowded bars —

Is the AP trying implant thoughts into the easily manipulated that the on-going protests, riots, vandalism, and let’s not forget looting, among strangers have in no way affected the rise In cases?

Fourth of July gatherings, graduation parties, no-mask weddings, crowded bars...

Ongoing 'peaceful' BLM protests interestingly left out.

If you look at the stats, less than 20% of covid victims are under 60 years old. Less than 1% are under 35 years old. The chance of dying if you do get infected is less than one in 10,000 if you are under 50 years old. A grand total of 30 children under the age of 15 have died from covid. Of course, this is tragic. But it is not data that should be used to drastically change public policy. Simple example, in that same age group more than 300 die from influenza per year. Yet the flu doesn't cause the panic about kids that covid does.

We need to be honest, this is a disease that hits the elderly the hardest. Due to age, underlying conditions, poor care in nursing homes, etc.

My point is that raw numbers like in this article are nothing more than panic porn. They don't even attempt to do any analysis or give any useful information to the public. So ordering lockdowns and closures that adversely impact people whose chance of dying by covid are tiny does nothing other than kill the economy and damage the country.

Trump is also making a financial fortune from the collapse, like he did in 2008.

Trump is also making a financial fortune from the collapse, like he did in 2008.

I would not put it past him, but could you explain how he is doing so?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yes, I would be interested to hear how Trump (not Gates or Bezos) is supposedly making money on this.

Yes, I would be interested to hear how Trump (not Gates or Bezos) is supposedly making money on this.

Why only trump? I’d be curious to know how much bezos and gates are making as well. It should be transparent to the masses how these billionaires profit off our struggles.

That said, I would expect that if they were socially responsible citizens they’d dedicate a significant portion of their profits toward philanthropic endeavours. Like Gates does. I have no idea if Bezos does, but I know trump doesn’t.

U.S. nears 5 million coronavirus cases

And along with over 155K deaths to date, the legacy of President Donald "It's Contained" Trump....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Attilathehungry:. If you look at the stats, less than 20% of covid victims are under 60 years old. Less than 1% are under 35 years old. The chance of dying if you do get infected is less than one in 10,000 if you are under 50 years old.

The question is why the US is doing so much worse compared to other countries, not that you shouldn't worry if you are under X years old.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

But Trump and his fellow plutocrats don't care because the majority of people killed and the nearly 5,000,0000 sickened by the virus in addition to the majority of those who have lost jobs because of the virus are working and middle class, not 'elite' like Trump, his family and fellow privileged class members.

But it was these Democrat mayors and governors have decided to keep the country on lockdown, most of the countries don’t do that and these Democrats don’t want people to work they don’t want them to pay their bills, but if Biden were to win they definitely want to make sure that they collect their taxes, so these are the people they could care less, go to any of these minority communities they govern over and you’ll see it for yourself, the only thing that the Democrats care about is getting power and more votes, nothing else.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

160,000 Americans dead by tomorrow and no end in sight.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Superlib, the US is not doing so much worse. They are doing better than the UK, about the same as France, and worse than Germany as an example. As to why, there are many reasons I think. More elderly people in care homes than with their families. High numbers of comorbidity such as drug use, obesity, and the like.

Vulnerable people need to be protected and isolated. But at the same time, not vulnerable people need to be allowed to get on with their lives and return to a semblance of normalcy.

My point is that these simple numbers don't really tell us anything. They are used by the media to push a certain agenda and engender fear in the population. You need to be better informed about the important data instead of relying on the media to filter it for you.

He donates his entire salary every quarter.

but I know trump doesn’t.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

He donates his entire salary every quarter.

As he should considering he also spends all his presidential time changing the law to benefit his profit line.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Still nothing?how is trump making a fortune financially from corona? I’m curious.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Did anyone catch the coverage of Trump's interview on Axios for HBO? He seemed so clueless about the situation.

President Donald J. Trump: (13:25)

Here is one. Well, right here, United States is lowest in numerous categories. We’re lower than the world.

Jonathan Swan: (13:37)

Lower than the world?

President Donald J. Trump: (13:37)

We’re lower than Europe.

Jonathan Swan: (13:39)

What does that mean? In what? In what?

President Donald J. Trump: (13:40)

Look. Take a look. Right there. Here is case death.

Jonathan Swan: (13:46)

Oh, you’re doing death as a proportion of cases. I’m talking about death as a proportion of population. That’s where the U.S. is really bad, much worse than South Korea, Germany, et cetera.

President Donald J. Trump: (13:55)

You can’t do that.

Jonathan Swan: (13:56)

Why can’t I do that?

President Donald J. Trump: (13:58)

You have to go by where… look. Here is the United States. You have to go by the cases. The cases are there.

Jonathan Swan: (14:04)

Why not as a proportion of population?

President Donald J. Trump: (14:07)

What it says is, when you have somebody where there’s a case-

Jonathan Swan: (14:11)

Oh, okay.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:11)

The people that live from those cases.

Jonathan Swan: (14:14)

Oh. It’s surely a relevant statistic to say, if the U.S. has X population and X percentage of death of that population versus South Korea-

President Donald J. Trump: (14:22)

No. Because you have to go by the cases.

Jonathan Swan: (14:22)

Well, look at South Korea, for example. 51 million population, 300 deaths. It’s like, it’s crazy compared to-

President Donald J. Trump: (14:28)

You don’t know that.

Jonathan Swan: (14:29)

I do.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:30)

You don’t know that.

Jonathan Swan: (14:31)

You think they’re faking their statistics, South Korea? An advanced country?

President Donald J. Trump: (14:33)

I won’t get into that because I have a very good relationship with the country.

Jonathan Swan: (14:36)

Yeah.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:37)

But you don’t know that. And they have spikes. Look, here’s one of-

Jonathan Swan: (14:39)

Germany, low 9,000.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:40)

Here’s one. Here’s one right here, United States.

Jonathan Swan: (14:43)

Let me look.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:44)

You take the number of cases.

Jonathan Swan: (14:45)

Okay.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:45)

Now look, we’re last meaning we’re first.

Jonathan Swan: (14:47)

Last? I don’t know what we’re first in.

President Donald J. Trump: (14:48)

We have the best.

Jonathan Swan: (14:49)

As a what?

President Donald J. Trump: (14:50)

Take a look again. It’s cases.

Jonathan Swan: (14:51)

Okay. I’ll just… okay.

Wow read that trump dialogue and then come back to me about your worries of Biden’s senility!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Ongoing 'peaceful' BLM protests interestingly left out.

Would that make you feel better if it was added in? Other things are left out, and it doesn't matter. There are 5,000,000 cases. How many do you need? More death percentage? What numbers will make you believe preventative measures are necessary?

My point is that raw numbers like in this article are nothing more than panic porn.

Panic porn? Naw.

5,000,000 is a huge number. The actual point is as the virus spreads in numbers it could very well lead to a higher percentage of deaths. Virus' can and do mutate. If it continues on and on in numbers, if the number gets to 10,000,000 the death percentage and rate of infection very well could rise. Awhile back...when Trump declared the virus beaten way back in January...5,000,000 would have been panic porn, but now, it's reality.

Swan interview shows Trump cannot answer simple questions.

You could do a sketch on SNL, word for word, and it'd be hilarious.

For reality and him actually trying to answer questions as president it's completely pathetic. What a tool.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sunfun: 5 million cases is less than 2% of the population. Not a huge number at all. Particularly when the vast majority won't suffer any major symptoms or require hospitalization. Particularly when the number of active cases is half of that. Particularly when most people don't have to worry about it that much.

I agree that preventative measures are necessary.... to protect vulnerable people. That does not include locking down the entire country. Isolate the vulnerable and let others get on with their lives. It isn't selfish to want to work, pay your bills, and so on.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I agree that preventative measures are necessary.... to protect vulnerable people. That does not include locking down the entire country.

I agree. It’s only old people who will die. They don’t matter cause they’d old. The expendable generation.

Good thing this virus doesn’t hit children! We’d actually have to care. Or just let an entire generation die.

mom wait, I suppose that’s what we’re doing with the old people aren’t we.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It does matter. It's relevant. It would make me feel better if it was added in. I would feel even better if those 'peaceful protests' were described accurately. It was a huge deal because this was allowed and even encouraged while at the same time those 'other things' were criticised. Those 'peaceful protests' also continue. to this day... yet somehow they're exempt from criticism.

Preventative measure are necessary - I agree - but the first line of this article screams double standards.

Blacklabel:. So that the other 99.98% can go on with life.

My God, that would cause an exponential explosion in the number of infections. You're pretending that we can just have older people build walls around themselves and never leave the house.

How is that even possible?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

ummm a house has walls all around it already, they dont need to build it around them. And they just stay home.

Its quite simple. Also what you are expecting of healthy young people and kids, to stay home.

we can just have older people build walls around themselves and never leave the house.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

or are you saying old people shouldnt have to stay home because they arent sick?

well neither are the other 99.98% of people.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

And they just stay home.

How do they get food?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

contactless delivery by people wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

relatives make Amazon orders on their behalf.

The funniest thing I saw this week was the bumbling idiot in the WH fail miserably to defend the same non sense about the US response to the coronavirus that @Blacklabel also can not defend!

Watch the highlights from Trump's disastrous interview with Axios

https://news.yahoo.com/watch-highlights-donald-trumps-disastrous-173008118.html

It is a prime example of why people should read more. The poor president didn't even know what he was reading or what it means. It was liking watching an elderly person confused and lost in a store.

A paraphrase from trump:

"This paper shows that we are at the bottom which means we are #1" LOL!

We are continuing to be the laughing stock of the free world thanks to this guy and his supporters!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It's awesome we live in a society where the virus will magically not kill significantly more old people whether the young take measures to slow the spread of the virus or not. Nice to know that our own inaction will not spike the death rate of the old.

The olde majick is the best.

Ongoing 'peaceful' BLM protests interestingly left out.

The burning + looting in the Minneapple was started by a lone white supremacist scumbag. Panic ensued and it was like dominoes. Police have identified this racist troublemaker and they are searching for him. The BLM protests were peaceful until that militia turd started his crap. All it takes is one idiot.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I wish I had a dollar everytime someone makes the statement that Trump "said" something, then cant provide a quote of him "saying" it.

If you included a dollar for every time a Republican misrpresented facts as fake news, you'd be richer than The Trump himself.

“Now we have over 120 million dead from COVID.” - Joe Biden

Yeah, you are right! Only +150,000 people died under trump's watch.

trump has been president during the US failing response to the pandemic not Biden.

Oh, my....................

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The burning + looting in the Minneapple ( Minneapolis, right? ) was started by a lone white supremacist scumbag. Panic ensued and it was like dominoes. Police have identified this racist troublemaker and they are searching for him.

Um, the dude was arrested and charged with murder.

And now Minneapolis is in chaos because of the inept governor of Minnesota and the inept mayor of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis City Council President, who claimed that they had a veto-proof majority to disband the police entirely in the city, a police-free future she called it. And when she was asked on CNN, if you disband the police, who does a woman call if a man breaks into her house in the middle of the night, she said that was a privileged question. Good grief...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Only +150,000 people died under trump's watch. Oh, my....................

Yeah, and if Trump hadn't shut down travel from China on Jan.31, we would have had WAY more cases and deaths. The following day Biden tweeted, get this, "We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering."

Oh my...........
