Well it is very sad but at least with some stricter gun control Canada rarely gets these events involving guns.

Had this been the USA we would be reading about 8 dead many more wounded.

It’s just a question of education. Knives are not for stabbing and also libraries are not. You have too many idiots running freely out there.

Being born and lived in North Vancouver all my life, this is the first incident like this that I have ever heard of. I can only think of 3 murders in my 60+ years in North Vancouver, I hope I never hear about one again. Shocking!

Probably racially motivated. Canada has turned into an All vs. All country.

I don’t believe that, I believe there would be a call for some sort of knife control. There are enough gun laws on the books in the US and it seems that the laws that Canada has on their books the rules are strictly enforced, something that is seriously lacking in the US.

How are things going in your country? Canada is a country that has done more than any other I can think of to accept people from all different backgrounds. If you think Canada's not doing things correctly, describe what your country is doing better.

Well, Canada has gun laws that can be enfored, the US doesn't. It's a big difference.

You aren't daring to qualify how well a country deals with it's multiculturalism based on its success by it's government, rather than the failures by it's people are you?

Awful news. What a coward this animal is. Should have been shot right between the eyes.

I hope the injured can somehow pull through and survive.

There are crazy people everywhere, but the fact that these crazy people can't easily access guns in most developed countries is exactly the reason why one death here hasn't turned into 10. Canada's neighour to the south should try to learn a lesson here.

He said the man is in his 20s and has had interactions with police in the past.

I'd like to know more about this. The perpetrator, quite possibly, should not have been on the streets.

The law of unintended consequences be damned! Zhou Enlai’s (apocryphal) comment about it being too early to assess the implications of the French Revolution also comes to mind.

Knives are a widely used in criminal activity and many are injured or killed by them. Knives, in countries with strong gun control laws, will become the default weapon of choice for those who wish to do others harm. We’ve seen this become a serious problem in London in recent years. Some types of knives are created for purposes other than common uses such as meal preparation. Switch blades for example. Shouldn’t the government tightly regulate these types of weapons that are created only to kill?

Further digging revealed a photo of a young black male, who is purportedly the attacker, lying on a stretcher behind an ambulance.

Canada's long history of colonialism, displacement of native populations and white supremacy should not be discounted as a reason for this revenge attack. Let's just hope that others do not copy this man's actions. Canada should pursue color blind policies that will lead to greater integration and less balkanization.

@Strangerland

Yes, Canada is mutlicultural but now nobody is rowing in the same direction and the boat is spinning around in circles. Please try to defend the law in Quebec on head coverings. Please try to defend the supermarket owned by possible the largest corporation in Canada that required customers at its Asian food branches to have their temperature taken before being allowed to enter, to protect staff, but did not have the same policy at its hundreds of other branches. Eleven months ago, one of the largest companies in Canada thought they needed to protect staff from Asian customers. Defend that please.

That's not what my friends who still live there tell me.

Oh, are we going into anecdotal evidence? Please disprove the reconciliation tribunal. Please disprove the welcoming of Syrian refugees. Please disprove the laws they've put forward to ensure equal opportunity for the people.

You're just a negative person looking at the glass half empty. Like all hacks on the internet.

Some of us praise the positive, and criticize the individual anecdotes you bring up as if they prove an argument.
