They have families to start, I guess. Ugh

Taliban are utterly an disgusting regime and Afghanistan peoples worst enemy.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

That was the internal business of an Islamic country. I don't understand why the West like implanting their own values over other countries and forcing others complying !

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

Doesn’t the Quran encourage the pursuit of knowledge and understanding for both men and women? Aren’t the Taliban going against the teachings of their prophet with their discriminatory policies?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The Taliban was created by U.S., Saudi and Pakistan during mid 1990s to takeover that country after Soviet army withdrawal from Afghanistan and ending the Civil War between the Mujahideen regime. So it was America's fault of casing the worst hardships to the Afghans !

Not under Sharia.

Plenty of material to pick and choose from ( and ignore ) in these self-contradicting religious books to promote what you want.

hard to believe it’s 2024.

"At least 1.4 million girls in Afghanistan have been denied access to secondary education since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, with the future of an entire generation now "in jeopardy", the United Nations' cultural agency said Thursday."

That's too bad, but it's Afghanistan for Afghanistans their nation their rules.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Imagine a time , long ago, not often recollected, when Afghanistan had a secular Government.

Then the USA decided Russia had too much influence and started to arm "the Holy Warriors "...the Mujahadeen.

This quickly morphed into the Taliban and where we are today.

Well done America...another successful intervention.

Yes, the Taliban are a bunch of goat-herding hicks. Their medieval style of governance is not representative of Islam as a whole.

Ok. What created the fundamentalism in Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, etc. etc. ? Going to have to expand your story to how the US created jihad.

They had a murderous communist government. We had success kicking them over across the world so why not Afghanistan? Oh and the Soviet Afghan War helped bring down the Soviet Union, the most positive event in the 20th century.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Post Soviet. Afganistan form a loss intern government of 7 Sunni Mujahideen groups which did not last long because Shia Mujahideen were excluded. Years of fighting lasted between them Then entered the Taiban ( students) who took no part in war against the Soviets. These were the children refugees that fled to Pakistan and end up in Wahhabi madrassas,  These Children spawn into Taiban under the Mulla old stab eye Mohammed Omar. With permission from Pakistan the Taiban became a force to take on the Northern Alliance and control Government. The Taiban relied heavy on funds made in opium. Enter the USA 1998 a decade later because of the herion drug trade was out of control in the USA. The USA ended paying of 20 billion to the Taiban to stop the opium trade for a few years until 11/9 happen. So Produce by Pakistan and the Taiban government was then funded by the USA until 11/9

Any culture/regime banning girls from education - or any equal opportunity as boys - is deserving of contempt.

The Taliban place females on the same level as dogs and pigs.

“Highly unlikely”

The jury is still out. But the likelihood there's going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely," Biden said on July 8, but just a month later that appears to be exactly what's happening.

I guess maybe he shouldn't have followed Trump's plan.

this is islamophobia ... we Muslims has own law... that is sharia law... our law do not allow girls to get educated .. her job is to make children .. allah is great .... her husband will teach her Quran ... that is her education ... according to sharia law a girl should be married at the age of 9..... how can she goes to school then??? from that time onwards her duty is reproduce .... make maximum number of children .... This is sharia law given by our Allah .......... Insha allaha we will make sharia law in UK soon ...... Next whole Europe then Canada then USA... Allahu Akbar... Islam is the most fastest growing religion ..... Free Palestine ... make a new Palestine state from river to the sea... By 2050 Islam will be the most powerful religion in the world and we will make sharia law as we do in Afghanistan whole world .. watch ...

Any how thanks for people support to our rallies and protests... especially the left ...

Or release 5,000 Taliban prisoners back to the battlefield without even consulting the Afghan government.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Biden knew of both the prisoner release and agreed to execute the plan to leave prior to his arrogantly and wrongly stating “highly unlikely” Taliban would take over.

spoiler alert: they did and now we have this terrible article.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Fighto: Taiban Bad yes not just to women. But the king of the house in a muslim household is the women. The man have there own area and are forbidden to enter where women are So the males stay to their area. That being the greeting area and their sleep area and outside. So it bit harsh to say they treat the female like dogs and Pigs is far off mark. It outside the home, is the Male domain. House Women's domain.

Biden knew of both the prisoner release and agreed to execute the plan to leave prior to his arrogantly and wrongly stating “highly unlikely” Taliban would take over.

Trump negotiated the deal and had to be talked out of uniting the Taliban, an international terror organization, to a public welcome at Camp David.

And it was Trump that released them.

Sorry, this has your boi’s greasy KFC fingerprints all over it.

Nah Biden found trump’s plan as acceptable and executed it. Failing miserably in the process.

Afghanistan is a USA failure. So much money was spent. So many lives lost.

"The U.S. government spent $2.3 trillion, and the war led to the deaths of 2,324 U.S. military personnel, 3,917 U.S. contractors, and 1,144 allied troops."

"More than 70,000 Afghan and Pakistani civilians are estimated to have died as a direct result of the war."

"The West" believes in the right to choose what is best for yourself and your family, provided it doesn't harm anyone else or the environment. We call it freedom to pursue happiness. Perhaps that's a idea to some parts of the world.

If you want to do something that doesn't harm anyone else (or their property) or the environment, then it should be allowed. How does a family wanting to educate their girls harm anyone else? Seriously? Are the old, toothless, illiterate men in Afghanistan afraid of smart girls being educated so they can actually read the Quran to know what it actually says?

Studies around the world have shown that when women succeed, their success is multiplied throughout the family and community.

What about all of the other countries that thought they could help bring civilization to the place?

The Afghan people were betrayed by America twice. The first time was 1990s by enabling the inhuman Taliban regime to seize power at 1996/97. The second time was 2021 by Joe Biden, they just leave without notice. That's say the quality of the Americans, very despicable!

The Afghans were just not in a position mentally to be able to handle democracy. NATO was not going to be able to change that after 20 years.

That's no way to talk about a billion people and 40% of world GDP.

Nothing racist to see here folks, move along.

How old in the area known as Afghanistan ?

How old is the modern USA ?

Worth considering before value judgements of zero value impinge on one's thinking

There is plenty that goes into a person's mentality: culture, experience, education. None of these have to do with race and in none of these categories were the Afghans prepared for democracy.

How old in the area known as Afghanistan ?

How old is the modern USA ?

Doesn't really matter as Afghanistan is still clearly living in the 7th century.

Thats the crunch, its not. Most women and a large portion of men dont want it that way but the Taliban has enough armed men to force their ways on the majority. Might making things right.

The correct terminology would be, Its Afghanistan for the religious zealots who force the people of that nation to submit or die.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Where the US intervenes, it ruins everything.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

South Korea seems to be lucky the US is there. Same for Japan. Imagine Japan with a Russian partnership. That's scary.

Taiwan post-1987 is certainly better off thanks to the US. Before 1987, Taiwan had lots of issues.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban was against anyone trying to help their country. The US spent $Trillions, trying to make Afghanistan a prosperous country. Instead, the Taliban decided that blowing up schools was more important. If they were smart, they should have taken the money, got all the infrastructure upgrades, no killings, and gotten a prosperous country. The US would have slowly brought their number of troops and advisors down and the Taliban could have been elected by the people, if that was their choice. Then they could have done almost anything they wanted, probably 10 yrs faster than fighting.

The US isn't known for having death squads in other countries once the elected power is changed. Sometimes it is heartbreaking to see a country back step. Look at Iraq. They were given so many chances to have a fantastic country. Instead, some people there decided that rather than look towards a bright future, allowing violence was better. When they didn't kick out all the Iranians, it was over for Iraq. So sad.

BTW, the US should never have been in Iraq the 2nd time in the early 2000s. The entire effort was an intelligence failure, aided by Saddam's need to lie to the world about having weapons so they wouldn't attack Iraq. He was telling the US, no WMDs here, but telling everyone in his world neighborhood, we have WMDs. Saddam was in a no-win situation. Being brutal didn't help the US believe him.

Of course, if you you want Russian and Chinese to rule a country, then you are against any US "interference". If you look at placed where China or Russia have "helped", you see that Russia makes them servants and keeps them poor. Look at Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and all the former USSR countries that are still aligned with Russia.

For China, just look at what they've been doing with Hong Kong, Macau, and all the infrastructure projects China has sold around the world. The locals don't get jobs. China brings Chinese to do the building, feed the workers, cloth the workers, and setup Chinese Police departments in those areas. Some of the Chinese shops refuse to allow local people to shop there. There are videos of this in Africa where locals tried to ship in a Chinese grocery store, but were blocked from entering the store. Blatant racism.
