Palestinian U.N. Ambassador Riyad Mansour who spoke after council members said the Trump administration's decision on recognition "undermines and essentially disqualifies its leadership role to seek peace in the region."

Indeed. There's no going back from this, despite whatever previous good deeds have been done by the US in brokering peace.

The US is finished, reputation wise, in regards to world affairs.

Everybody's asking why? Why would Trump do this?

Simple:

Mueller works for AIPAC, his job is to make sure Trump follows through on his promise to move the embassy to Jerusalem and also other AIPAC requests.

If Trump wavers or stalls, Mueller will dig through his trove of 400,000 emails and cherry pick stuff he can hit Trump with.

If Trump does AIPAC's bidding, Mueller keeps kicking the can down the road indefinitely. After all, the Dems have inexhaustible patience when it comes to Mueller's investigation. Even 7 years down the road they'll be saying "Mueller's going to make a big announcement any day now"

Lately, AIPAC has become inpatient and brought Flynn out from the woodwork (he had been lying dormant for about 8 months) as a reminder to Trump that they had a deal.

Trump obviously got the message and here we are.

Mmm a compounded criminal action compounded again with the end result of further isolating two countries that claim they are unjustly being treated although they build walls they blockade civilians, they bomb the crap out of hospitals, schools, murder civilians, stealing lands all on the pretext of being given the go by a character nobody has seen. This is not going anywhere positive.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Every President has said they will do this, even Obama. Trump finally did he should be praised for it.

um.. yeah right

The one silver lining to this whole episode is that people are again asking themselves why isn't there peace yet? Why is there no Palestinian state? What are the demands of each side? What are the sticking points? Who is refusing to compromise? If you don't know, you owe it to yourself to find out.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Be it naivete, stupidity, or arrogance - or all three - Trump, Tillerson, and Haley have just been shown the door, and it will be a very long time before the United States can even pretend to be the leader of the western world. Principled leadership goes hand in hand with integrity and neither is not to be found in this administration.

As Trump's madness continues and intensifies, the phrase "US allies and partners" will disappear from any discussion of international politics.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Mueller works for AIPAC,

You spelled "Department of Justice" incorrectly. Perhaps you were going for "DOJ?"

Agreed.

Nobody cares what America does they have lost all credibilty with the orange nut in the white house.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

And when there’s a new President in office, decades of collaboration between the US and her allies will take place again. Why do people Trump equals US down the road?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Is it really Trump madness..?

The madness started with the League of Nations, then the UN that really served the needs and concerns of a few powerful Western nations whose ideologies and rights were justified and enforceable because they represented those countries that "won" the worldwide wars to date. The entire nation state problem started with arbitrary demarcation of states throughout the world from the Middle East to Asia in the name of UN authority and sanctions without a realistic evaluation, and meaningful explanation or verification and agreements from all concerned and actually affected.

Nations were "carved" and created without real consent of those that actually "occupied" those lands. Some territories were actually "purchased" as with Israel during the middle of a world conflict for the convenience of relocating people who were not accepted by other nations at that time. Not much different from the refugees of today.

As for the capitol of any country... that country's people and not other countries determines where it is to be located.

The problem is... that it happens to be the same location identified and claimed by two conflicting religions as their original source of reverence and shrine which each wish to own and control. The second problem is that for both religions, there is no real separation of state and religion. Therefore a political solution is not possible without a similar corresponding religious solution.

For Trump and for the USA.., with Israel as an ally in the region, as was originally decided by the US Congress years ago, it makes sense to recognize that capitol.

For one, it keeps the problem and conflict away from the US mainland. The conflict in the region religious or otherwise must and should be resolved by the immediate parties without conflicts that can involve the world community as had the Jihadists.

Two, it in effect requires the stagnant parties to really work out the problem when there is a need for religious reformation within the Muslim community divided by Jihad-ism and Moderation. In effect, it forces some to secularize and participate peacefully within the modern world community. For the other, it requires them to be less aggressive in acquiring territories in the name of security, defense and need for growth in territories that were arbitrarily created on their behalf by a world organization and not by the local population.

The timing... that is of some concern...

It certainly is no different than what O did with Cuba... (A political distraction and for some an opportunity to profit.)

Three, it does have some effect in moderating the Muslim involvement in eliminating ISIS and creates an interesting spark in attracting attention to Syria and especially Iran.

Just as N Korea, Iran is still a major threat to Europe and the Middle East with their nuclear and missile projects, now probably the same or much further than even N Korea.

The US is really benefiting from our decision.

Nobody cares what America does

well every stock market seems to care, since they are all going up as well since he took office. I guess you think people care more about Canada or something? haha

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

kazetsukai, "For one, it keeps the problem and conflict away from the US mainland."

My feeling is that it could well draw further attacks against the US. It may take a little time for those with cunning and devious minds to switch their focus and hatch their bloody plans, but with this act Trump has set the US up as a fresh target.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

@dango well every stock market seems to care, since they are all going up as well since he took office. I guess you think people care more about Canada or something? haha..Yeah Canada is great people are lovely someone said its like America without the douche bags....So you have investments making heaps of cash?

Divide and conquer! That’s the only way things gonna work out. It’s the universal law. Many nationalities in the USA. Count your brothers and sisters and you find that USA is an immigrant country. No country invites everyone to immigrate to their country by lottery expect the USA, so it’s never going to lose. Europeans, Asians, Africans, and s. Americans all inspire to be there! USA never loses!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

But when will the West do something other than talk? When will the so-called powers stand up to the US and stop capitulating? The US dominates the world and the only nation to resist is North Korea. The UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and JAPAN talk but have no guts to do anything. These nations are totally bluffed by the US and are allowing the slaughter of civilians. Japan has a very short memory.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

In addition to moving our embassy to Jerusalem, we should remove ourselves from the UN because the it is a joke. Since its inception in 1945, what has the UN done to ensure world peace? Is it accomplishing its mission? In other words, it the world more peaceful?

The UN has become a public forum for bashing the US. What is most ironic is that the US pays the largest share to finance the UN and the land it sits on was donated by the US.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Thanks to Trump, the entire world HATES America.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

If this thing turns out to be the start of a big disaster, then let history remember that it's TRUMP's fault.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

. Since its inception in 1945, what has the UN done to ensure world peace? Is it accomplishing its mission? In other words, it the world more peaceful?

I agree, the UN has not, and could not do anything about the warmongering menace known as the US. Maybe things should change!

14 Security Council members criticize U.S. action on Jerusalem

The 14 Security Council members need the U.S. a lot more than the U.S. needs them or their approval. Well done U.S.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Might I suggest a compromise? Instead of moving US embassy in Israel and recognizing Jerusalem as the capital, have the Israeli embassy in the US moved to Pancksutawnie Pennsylvania and have Israel and other countries recognize that as the capital of the US. Much less bloodshed from natives of DC than with Jerusalem natives. Plus, great groundhogs to know when winter will be over.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Concerning the UN, it cannot do anything worthwhile until it has the force to execute (ie its only military and police) and has gotten rid of the security council...or at least go from 1 country vetoing the world with no way to override, to majority vote. This may seem scary to some, but why not a multilevelled federation? Counties-states/provinces-nations-continents-UN central, each with delineated federated responsibilities laid out in a constitution.

Imagine if the US or Japan govt were structured like the UN. There'd be warlords fighting everywhere and famines with an impotent central or state govt (no military or police). All the president, governor, or prime minister could do would be to wag his finger and encourage the security council to draft a nasty letter. And one person on that security council could derail even that.

Thanks to Trump, the entire world HATES America.

I'd say they hate the US administration, as opposed to American people.

But Trump has done irreparable damage to the country's international standing. If he was looking for isolation, he's got it. Sadly.

That said, the damage done to the peace process is far, far worse.

They always have.

I've been hearing that my entire life. Tell me something new please.

That said, the damage done to the peace process is far, far worse.

Again, I've heard that all my life.

Nobody cares what America does they have lost all credibilty with the orange nut in the white house.

No, the World liked America contained the way THEY wanted it under the last admin. Now it's like we have a President who doesn't care what the world thinks and Thank God for that.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

That said, the damage done to the peace process is far, far worse.

there was no process, the two sides have been and will always be at opposition. do not blame the us. blame canada

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

you can hate america if you wish, meanwhile your whole economic stability depends on america no matter where you are from.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I've been hearing that my entire life. Tell me something new please.

Unlikely, seeing as he's only been PotUS since January.

Hopefully now the UN will instigate sanctions against the US to bring it to its senses.

Unlikely, seeing as he's only been PotUS since January.

No, I've been hearing that all my life, nothing new here.

Hopefully now the UN will instigate sanctions against the US to bring it to its senses.

The UN can't even stop the war and bloodshed in 3rd world countries, they can't even agree on what terrorism is. good luck with that. ROFL

Back in 1995 the 104th Congress of the United States passed Public Law 45 or the Jerusalem Embassy Act.

Within the Jerusalem Embassy Act is a statement of US policy that reads:

1) Jerusalem should remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious are protected;

2) Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel; and

3) the United States Embassy in Israel should be established in Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999

Section #7 of the Act concerns Presidential Waivers where the sitting President can waive the implementation of the Act for a period of six months and can renew the waiver every six months, apparently indefinitely.

Every sitting President since 1998 has opted to use the exclusive power given in Section #7 to issue waivers counteracting the implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act was passed by a significant bipartisan majority and was reaffirmed by unanimous vote during the 115th Congress (2017-2018). This is not something that Trump dreamt up, he is merely allowing the will of the Congress to take effect.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Every President has said they will do this, even Obama. Trump finally did

There are good reasons the other presidents didn't do it.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I've been hearing that my entire life. Tell me something new please.

Since you've been hearing it your entire life, it must not be true. Brilliant. KUDDOS! ROFL!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Since you've been hearing it your entire life, it must not be true.

I've been hearing my entire life that we will be flying around like the Jetson's and I'm still driving an unleaded, go figure.

There are good reasons the other presidents didn't do it.

Then keep your mouth shut and don't say it.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

There are good reasons the other presidents didn't do it.

Yes that is correct, they lie just to get elected.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Nobody cares what America does they have lost all credibilty with the orange nut in the white house.

The president of the United States of America, aka the president of all Americans, is non stop making controversial and dangerous decisions threatening world peace and the lives of many. But the Americans just let him. Some day they'll be sorry.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Since its inception in 1945, what has the UN done to ensure world peace? Is it accomplishing its mission? In other words, it the world more peaceful?

Perhaps if America, the nation perpetually at war, had endorsed instead of vetoing or ignoring so many UN moves to make the world a better place it might well be.
