The real problem with Mexico is endemic CORRUPTION. It's been going on for ages--way before the rise of the current drug lords. Even 30 years ago, Mexican politics was a very hazardous field, and any politician aiming to be a straight arrow knew his life could be cut short. Too many people at all levels are on the take, from lowly policemen to highly placed politicos, for any clean-up initiative to gain traction. It's like trying to climb up a rotten wooden pole, it crumbles under your grip and weight. A very sad situation indeed.

A real drug policy in the USA like in Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia,China etc..you know, where they chop your head off if you use drugs or smuggle drugs, would make a big dent in the American drug use and hopefully, the Satanic cold blooded murderers would start to slow down and change from selling drugs to something more decent, but I really doubt the USA will ever start executing drug users and smugglers like they do in Iran so, this problem in Mexico will keep getting fueled by all the $$$$ and guns, bullets etc...coming in illegally from north of the border, meaning from the USA down into poor, over run Mexico, the so called war on drugs in the USA is a joke, America too has so much corruption with border guards, police, lawyers etc...so this mess will continue for a long, long time.

I agree with Suzu1, I'm not so sure a change in U.S. policies would suddenly make these wretched people go away. I hate reading these stories, I weep for the poor people of Mexico who live in fear everyday.

Kind of makes the Yakuza in Japan seem civilized.

Well, they are much more civilized than that. 99.999% of humanity is more civilized than that....

The violence will continue regardless of any changes in U.S. drug policy. The cartels each aim to be the "plaza boss" controlling all crime in the territory. That is why they are currently involved in all kinds of crime from stealing oil to extorting poor women selling used clothes at flea markets.

It is just pay back, these guys getting killed in this bar, are no angles, the mafia know each other and they know where their amigos hang out and where their ENEMIGOS hang out too, enemigo is ENEMY so just business as usual for the Satanic narco drug pushers. Coahuila is a state that many of these drug gangs are fighting each other to get the rights to cross many drugs that mean $$$$$$$$ over to the USA and as long as the USA is thirsty and hooked on these drugs, well we can pray and pray but this will not end in our life times my dear moonbeams, cool name you got there.
