I find that a very depressing and silly comment.

Shooting incidents in the USA tend to hit the news when they occur in "public" places - post offices, churches, factories, schools, music festivals, etc. I don't recall any pattern of the reporting along racial grounds.

The everyday shooting incidents don't hit the news (family shootings, turf wars, etc.). These should perhaps be more worrying just based on the overall numbers involved. But because they largely involve the poorer sections of society, they tend to get ignored.

Regarding police shootings, in 2019, 375 white people and 235 black people were shot dead by the police in the USA. I don't recall many news articles or protests,

Mentally ill. Tried to kill using a car, then a semi-automatic rifle. We need car control AND just to follow the existing gun laws. But California ignores laws it doesn't like, we all know that.

How is this even news?

No point a state having strong gun laws if the others don't.

Buy at gun shows... . Even just buy off the street.

In California, all firearm sales or transfers must be done through a licensed firearms dealer and are subject to a background check and waiting periods. Even when both buyer and seller are unlicensed.

Buy on the internet.

Like it or not, another vote for some elementary gun control, for semi-automatics at least.

California has the strongest gun laws in the US, including heavy restrictions on semi automatics.

So the what, was it 80 shootings per day in Chicago get no media coverage, but this one does? Is nobody wondering how the media picks and chooses to build a narrative?
