who were kidnapped while picnicking in an area of Yemen known as a hideout for al-Qaida

As sad as this is, why go there for a picnick?

As sad as this is, they were the ones who chose to go where they had to know they would be at risk of being murdered by extremists. I mostly feel sorry for those kids. The parents, and the adults chose to go and be murdered, the kids were just tagging along with their parents.

This is similar to the reporters in North Korea. They chose to go there, knowing the risks. If you knowingly choose to go to a muslim country, be aware you are placing your life in extreme jeopardy. Don't expect anyone to come save you.

Shows how smart they are...killing people who are there to help the sick...but then, nobody ever accused militants of being intelligent...

Time for the western governments to make some major adjustments. Stop importing goods from muslim nations, stop allowing tourists to go to muslim nations, and raise the price of grain to 1 kilo for a barrel of oil!!! Do it...do it now!!!

You see? You still get slaughtered by these freaks even when you did nothing wrong. They hate western/developed ways of life and the people and won`t blink an eye at killing them. They have no remorse for anything. Clean this place up!

as i always wish, it would be nice if the Muslim leader both local and international step up condemn the brutal act.

Do they have proof it was terrorist, sorry but even a lot of Arabs wont even go to Yemen. A good friend of mine grew up close to the border of Yemen on the Saudi side and even he wont go. There needs to be a little more investigating before you can be sure it was the work of Alqeda. I know for a fact that even police wont go into some areas just because of the locals and their not even terrorist.

Has everyone read the article properly? "Experts said the killings bore the hallmarks not of local tribesmen but of jihadist militants who had returned home after fighting in conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere."

America gets castigated for waterboarding these animals and for putting them in cages. Hello, where are the international condemnations from the press and the Muslim community? Words of thanks even for the presence of these doctors?

nandakandamanda, yes we read it but it is pure speculation, so again we ask...where is the proof? bears the hallmarks? lol

Not pure speculation. There is enough circumstantial evidence timewise and geographically, to make a very good case, IMHO. I won't spell it all out as it's already there in the article and in other news sources.

I would be interested in hearing if there were any factors that actually point away from AQ, but we haven't heard any yet...

If you really don't want to believe it, then that's another matter, and that's fine too.

Using embarrassing news to inconvenience the governement is a typical, cynical Al Qaida ploy. Barbaric inhumanity is a mark of their political thought processes.

I just don't get it, Yemen is so poor and backwards that it's actually considered a 4th world country. The whole terrorists and barbaric tribesmen who roam the country is a given. I just don't get why anybody want's to go there, let alone have a picnic!

Why go there? Well I think it was obvious. They went to Yemen to help out, Doctors and Nurses to help with health care in the tribal regions. They were being good citizens of the world. Their acts of kindness mitigate the threat of terrorism 1000% more effectively then anything an army can do. They are winning the hearts and minds of the people.

As much as I, & doubtless others, might agree with you, I cannot understand taking children into such a country. The nonsense of the picnic is beside the point. Simply having those children there was stupid.

I have a friend who worked for a year in San’a, she went there so ready to give as much help as she could & came out hating the whole country & it’s people. And this was not a young girl but a 45 year old ex-war correspondent. I trust her first hand account, not a place to visit.
