Being an honest politician in Mexico seems to be a death sentence, unfortunately.

The national police need to provide protection to the top 5 candidates while they run and while they are in office for any town with population over 50K. If that doesn't happen, the drug cartels will have their people in political offices AND those people will move up to governor and national offices in the next 10 yrs (if that hasn't already happened).

Nobody wants to be controlled by the cartels, but nobody wants to die or have their families killed either. Until the drug cartels are all dead and their organizations all destroyed, Mexico won't be a true democracy. They will become more and more a terrorist state. The soul of Mexico is at risk unless something drastic, nation-wide, it done.
