lf I were winner, what I’ll do..., how I use it..., how I’ll be able to change our world...

The time when I imagine is the most attractive.

They better put it into a foundation in their name so they're not killed or scammed out of it. Never touch the principle and just use the interest

The lottery is a pretty perverse concept when you think about it. Every week we take money from mostly poor people to elevate one lucky -but otherwise undeserving- person into the ranks of the super rich elite. I'm surprised progressive states haven't banned it yet. Why would you want to artificially generate more income inequality than already exists?

We all sit and dream of winning " the big one" the what if, but after thinking about it, I would not want to win. that much, why? well I am sure you will have every nut job, thug, crook wanting to take it off you, potentially your children could be snatched and held to ransom, you would have to have 14/7 security and body guards life would change, but you could not just go down the pub for a drink with out looking over your shoulder constantly. I would keep a bit and give some to friends and family, but the rest I would give away to various charities where it do some good.

For anyone interested there is an American documentary called "Lucky" that follows about six winners of the lottery.

The winners range from Vietnamese-American slaughterhouse workers to a high school maths teacher.

My favorite was the guy whose sister was arrested for trying to kill him for the money, then a few years later his brother went down for hiring a contract killer.

Not many of the winners actually pulled it off well.

Check it out, if you can.

It was the Christian conservative States in the south that was against it in the late 80’s not for inequality but as a form of gambling.

Lottery Powerball proceeds, some $140 million of it go into education, environment, and other projects split among 21 states.

That it only elevates one lucky person is a misconception.

That's a fair point. There may be more than one winner but there do seem to be many losers.

Personally I find the lotto system in South Africa to be the fairest and most interesting. When you buy a ticket you are essentially depositing your money into an account. Your ticket enters you into every draw from now into the future. The jackpot is the interest that is generated from all accounts in that week. The best part is that you can cash in your tickets and get all your money back whenever you feel like it. Nobody really loses.

lf I were winner, what I’ll do..., how I use it... if your Japanese your win would be illegal as there is a law that prohibits Japanese nationals buying tickets at foreign lotteries, yeah I know its pure BS just limitiing Japanese to spend their money where its more attractive.

Lotteries are for people who are really bad at math.

My chances are almost exactly the same not playing as for the people who do play. After all, I could find the winning ticket in a parking lot. I could.

It is a voluntary tax on the ignorant. Mom dropped $5/wk on the lottery for 15 yrs (just under $2K). She said the fun it provided was worth not going to an afternoon movie weekly.

But it is fun to think of how your life might change. If I win, you'll never hear from me again and I'll stop complaining about the costs of the ACA, maybe.

The lottery is simply a regressive tax on the poor and working class. It's an easy yet unethical way to tax people.

And garym above is right. Most winners, unless they were already used to managing money, will lose everything they win. It's not all that easy to hang onto money once you've got it. If you get rich over time, you pick up the necessary skills. But if a lottery drops a fortune in your lap overnight, you may very well lose it. Especially since people who buy lottery tickets don't tend to be financially savvy people in the first place.

I'm definitely winning the next Powerball.

the amounts are really out of whack. If you had a hundred people win a $100,000 prize every week from guaranteed numbers that would help more people.

I'm definitely winning the next Powerball.

That's what I and my co-workers said... And then when we see each other at work the day after the drawings, the first thing we say to each other is, "I see you didn't win either..." lol!

Keep hope alive!

Gambling does not generate wealth in society; it merely moves money from one pocket to another. Business, on the other hand, creates new values, adding wealth to the society.

Lol, I know one of the gas stations where an $1M ticket sold!

That it only elevates one lucky person is a misconception.

Many people pool their tickets

If you had a hundred people win a $100,000 prize every week from guaranteed numbers that would help more people.

Still not a hundred, but dozens of people tend to win 5 figures

@theFu not completely true, for large accumulated jackpots like this it is a worthy investment cause although the risk is high the returns are enormous. So it make sense to play when the prize money accumulates to this level but don't overdo it.

Not sure if it is a good or bad thing but maybe imagining yourselves winning the lottery motivates you and give you that bit of hope but probably at the same time it limits yourself cause you feel that it is not an amount you can make based on based on your abilities.

To be honest it's not like going to Las Vegas or the local casino's in my state and plunking down $200+ and winning nothing. I know at most I've been only spending maybe about $40-$80 a YEAR on tickets only when I think I should play. I've won back my money if not double or quadruple the amount sometimes. This month alone I've only spent about $6 playing lottery games.
