I was on a bus from Texas to Detroit. The bus started in Mexico and had a stop in a burb or Chicago before the main station. There were hundreds of of Mexicans at this station when we stopped. I don’t know what happens but the black bus drivers was surrounded and he had to fist his way out back to the bus. Then we had to lay on the bus floor in case it was sprayed with gun fire. And the was 1992.
ive been to Chicago many times, the museum is excellent, a Dread Zeppelin concert, the hard rock hotel where they put my wife and I in the Lennon Yoko suite, so it’s sad that so many parents can’t control or don’t wanna control their children.

One of my good friends was shot in a public bathroom in a Chicago park by a black teen. No reason other than he was white and in the wrong place at the wrong time. My friend survived the shooting but his older brother didn’t. That was in the mid-70s.

2021 ends as Chicago's deadliest year in a quarter century:
With the current trend, the situation in 2022 will most certainly get worse.
Residents of Chicago, be adequately prepared..

I completely agree.

The firearms don’t shoot all by themselves. The firearms don’t allow shooters out on bail to shoot more people.
Democrat city, Democrat justice systems, high crime follows.

It is a crime issue not a political party issue. Every single discussion involving America seems to drag out two rival political party supporters using every topic to have a go at the other party.
It is Americans killing Americans and should be handled in a bipartisan method. And before anyone points and says it is the other parties fault, let me say it is both parties fault.
America has forgotten they are the same people and now identify not as Americans, but by a political party. This sort of division will not end well and if they do not soon find a way forward it will tear the nation apart, much to the delight of US enemies and opponents of democracy.
Pull it together folks and try for once to deal with the crime issue by giving suggestions for solutions rather than pointing political fingers. Or is that to big of an ask for out yank friends on these forums?

Oh, so not Johnny Deerhunter with his .308 or Susan Selfdefender with her Gen 4, but Jake Gangbanger and his stolen Saturday night special.
make all the gun laws you want -and Chicago has lots of them - but the gangs aren't going to care.
The Avenger
This is exactly what Chicago keeps voting for.

One is safer living in El Salvador than in many places in the US. American dream, anyone?

guns used by criminals who have no fear of any laws due to the lax law enforcement policies of blue states.
SophiaHernandez
P. Smith,
key word:stolen.
a little over half. and they flow in illegally from straw purchasers.
SophiaHernandez
and just because a house may be unlocked, it doesn't mean you can go in and take what's in it.
SophiaHernandez
your points that all the gun laws in the world will be ignored by gangs? you are welcome.
SophiaHernandez
you all seem to think that all an inner city Chicago gang member needs to do to get a gun is drive to Indiana to buy one.
in fact, all out of state purchases are subject to background checks. Long guns through private sales and all handguns must always be sent to a licensed dealer in Illinois.
meaning, states contiguous to illinois may have looser gun regulations but a lot of laws, like straw purchasing, illegal transfers and transport over state lines, must still be circumvented before they end up in Chicago.
gang members are happy to ignore those laws but the law abiding citizens I mentioned earlier (the hunter and the woman who wants to keep a handgun at home for self-defence) are not. yet its the suburban or rural guys (or guns) who get blamed for all the gun violence when its the inner city gangs that are the real problem.
Mr Kipling
I pointed out the fact, and it is a fact that almost all of the gun crime in Chicago is black on black. The problem isn't a gun problem. It is a "Young black man with gun problem". Not old men, not women. It isn't the skin color either. Young black men in Africa are not killing each other like in the US.
Sorry, I don't have the answer, drugs, gangs, poverty, rap music? But ignoring and censoring discussion doesn't help.
Blacklabel
As with most things the left are involved with they don’t want to get to the root cause.
Because once you identify the cause you have to do something. If you pretend you don’t know the cause already then you can just blame others and push for unrelated actions.
philadelphia also has 14 shootings this year 2022 already. Which red state did those guns supposedly come from?!
SophiaHernandez
Really?
Blacklabel
Which has nothing to do with gangs of non white criminals shooting each other with illegally obtained guns.
Democrats have been in charge 9 years of the last 13. Can’t they do something about this?
At least just tell their voters from Chicago and Philly to stop shooting people and each other?
Blacklabel
So every blue state or city that has a gun crime problem you just blame guns from another neighboring state?
so this ridiculous idea is for all blue cities? Atlanta, Georgia is to blame guns from Florida?
California doesn’t touch any red states, did someone drive guns from Texas? Where does NYC get theirs?
Sven Asai
Wrong search, you won’t find the reason and solution in politics or gun laws.

Peter14, entirely agree. And yet virtually all the posts after yours were politically slanted diatribes, yahboo politics. A sad reflection of a society so deeply riven as to be worryingly close to failure. Civility and reasoned debate long forgotten.
It matters not the colour of the skin, the criminality of the individual or the party politics of the local government if the volume of guns circulating in the society is so high and the culture of that society is deeply gun orientated as the USA currently is then guns will easily end up in criminal hands and be used for criminal purposes.
But even if you could by some magical means remove all guns from the criminals, the death toll in the USA would still be appalling due to all the other guns.

Ohio and West Virginia. Reading maps is hard.
Except thats not what is happening:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/a-rising-tide-of-stolen-guns-helps-fuel-philadelphias-gun-violence-epidemic/ar-AAS5kod
And according to the ATF:
"What we know from comprehensive tracing, through the ATF National Tracing Center, is that firearms are primarily being diverted into Philadelphia from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,"
https://www.fox29.com/news/most-firearms-used-in-philadelphia-homicides-come-from-outside-the-city-atf-says
SophiaHernandez
fair enough. But 'primarily' is the majority. therefore 'flowing' is hyperbolic. seems a risk when they're easy to get in your own state.
speculation. and again, why wouldn't someone in Philly who wants a ghost gun just make them themselves instead of taking an extra risk of buying one?
