"U.S. forces were now fleeing the country"

U.S. forces are not fleeing Afghanistan, they are getting out.

“We want to remind the Americans that as we did not accept invaders with their nice slogans in the past and we eliminated them from the world map.”

I see the Taliban have been taking lessons from the former Iraqi Iformation Minister.

No comparison between the Soviet invasion takeover attempt and the US bin laden/al-qaeda retaliation effort.

Why USA is still there is beyond my comprehension.

Make no mistake about it. USA can defeat Afghanistan if that were the intent.

With all USA military might and toys you cant ever win gorilla warfare.there is way more things that doesnt make headlines.if someone makes fox/cnn their major source of world news........good luck to grasp the world around you/.

The US military is stronger now than in 1942-1945. Nothing stopped US then when we were all in. Do you really think all efforts were made in Afghanistan?

The US and NATO troops always have done well. The defeat was not helping a proper government get started. The taliban took advantage of Afghan people who were being discriminated by the national government. Massive corruption etc was the reason for the taliban success, not military loss.

Ha yeah right, over a million innocent lives have been lost due to this war. All it did was that it inflamed the talibans and made things worse. Drones continue to kill innocent lives, including children.

@MarkG :

"Nothing stopped US when we were all in"

You "were in" together with troops from NATO alliance. And "you are in", with NATO partners. The result? Taliban is becoming stronger and stronger, day by day.

When a government is corrupt as it is in Afghanistan then nobody wins unless the corruption ends. As far as military might, all it would have taken is for someone to nuke or carpet bomb the place and the corruption would be gone in one fell swoop as there would be nothing left to gain in a radiated/ utterly destroyed wasteland and the only focus would be survival. But the reason that hasn't happened is because believe it or not, the US/NATO does have certain rules it abides by.

I think the best thing many nations can do for countries like Afghanistan etc. is leave them alone. Don't let them out of their own little hell hole, stop supplying humanitarian/financial aid/asylum/refugee and they'll either destroy themselves or get sick and tired enough of the BS to fix it themselves properly. Only should help those who help themselves, not those that expect others to do all the hard work for them while they screw off for their own personal power struggles and greed.

"Today America is facing the same fate as the former Soviet Union and is trying to escape from our country," the Taliban...

The US will be downsizing but they won't be getting out. Contractors will take over when the soldiers leave. The US has already done the same thing in Iraq.

The U.S. spent more than $200 billion on contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past decade as its reliance on private support grew, according to congressional estimates. In all, more than 5,000 contractors now work in Iraq as intelligence analysts, security guards, military trainers, translators and cooks. ... Of the roughly 5,000 contractors supporting the American diplomatic mission in Iraq, the State Department said, more than a third of them are U.S. citizens. They work for companies like Triple Canopy Inc., which provides security guards for U.S. diplomats, and L-3 Communications Holdings Inc., LLL +0.37% which helps the State Department vet Iraqis seeking jobs with the U.S.

Laughable.Taliban will quickly kick out those contractors from controlled territory. By the way, Soviets used to build a certain infrastructure in Afganistan. Salang Tunnel, for instance. What about your achievements? Roads, bridges, hospitals?

U.S. forces are not fleeing Afghanistan, they are getting out.

Didn't the Soviets say the same? I don't think anybody gave them a break either. Deal with it. Take your lumps. I sure hope the American people have learned their lesson, because the only lesson corporate America and their friends learned was that war=cash.

Its kind of funny when some guys calling Afghanistan Middle Age and corrupt country...what US led invasion armies want in Afghanistan?what is goal?so called democracy is not even properly implemented in US .US did invade Afghanistan and they are pulling out with tails between their legs.....whether we like it or not that kinda hurt though!

Afghan war was longer and costlier than WWII for US. US was more successful in WWII. Back in WWII, US Arm Force were battle hardened even though they did not posses modern military hardware, Back then they fought with Souverigin nations. It was easier because enemy is visible. In Vietnam and Afgan wars, enemy were invisible. They wear civilian clothes. It is easier for pretending as normal residents.

The reason of failure of Vietnam and Afgan wars were (1) Unfamiliar terrains (2) Betrayal or double agent trainees of local soldiers (3) lLocal resentment as invaders and war criminals (4) US force friendly fire for killing each other (5)Talibans are masters in guerrilla warfare (6) Lack of co- operation from Pakistan (7) Iran and Saudi backing Taliban

what will happen to Pakistan if USA pull out!!i think same fate after russia went home and pakistan left alone on borders!. and before anyone ask about so called AID.how much Pakistan lost in economically in this invasion?USA and allied forces were good in WW2 because they fought with one country.i m not defending nazi anyway,. To keep happy war mongers in USA blood will spill in future from both sides.American dying in wars are just regular folks,is there any relative of congress rep. on ground?

Sorry, it had a lot to do with rules of engagement, had the US been allowed to take the kid gloves off, the country could have been leveled to the ground in a matter of a few weeks, but the rules of engagement prohibited that and also that wasn't the mission. The Taliban like all the other radicals once they start getting their ***** kicked have to go with a propaganda offense to their followers that they are the ones in control, calling the shots and have completely crushed the enemy, how many times have we seen this? "Getting out and fleeing" are two completely different things. And the drone argument won't work, in EVERY war, there will be innocent casualties, in EVERY ONE. So tell me a war, where no innocent people were killed? Also factor in, we are dealing with an enemy that prefers to hide among women and children and innocent people and even dress like women to go undetected, that's not cowardly? How about all the innocent people the Taliban were killing trying to impose sharia before the US went in. Where is your outrage?

No locals are saying that the presence of American and other foreign troops have weakened the Talibans. In fact they're only creating more resentments from the locals and making the Taliban even stronger by people joining the Taliban.

The Taliban can be opposed by advocating education and allowing people to create a democratic government of their own.

@eiji

You know this how? You've spoken to them? You have concrete official statements based on....

In fact they're only creating more resentments from the locals and making the Taliban even stronger by people joining the Taliban.

Because of that, you're not supposed to try and just give up?

The Taliban can be opposed by advocating education and allowing people to create a democratic government of their own.

How? The only government that the TALIBAN want is SHARIA and you're ok with that?

@sundown

Didn't the Soviets say the same?

The Russians say a lot of things. See Sochi, Kursk, Chernobyl and on and on...

don't think anybody gave them a break either. Deal with it. Take your lumps.

It's not about taking lumbs, when Obama had the surge ordered, it drove a vast majority of the Taliban out and many were killed, but Obama being the....well, decided to just pull out without making sure of securing the country, developing an effective police force and the Afghan army and SOFA, so it's obvious the Taliban would at this fragile stage try to regroup and make a comeback, all the military experts say that writing on the wall, but Obama as usual didn't listen to any of his military advisors and now here we are.

I sure hope the American people have learned their lesson, because the only lesson corporate America and their friends learned was that war=cash.

What in blazes are you talking about? If anything, we've learned that, we have a president that was willing to send people in harms way, but NEVER believed in the mission, if that's the case, then do a complete withdrawal, don't do a half*** move where you send people to die because you don't want people to think that you are a weak president.
