Senator Richard Gordon said it was the fourth military aircraft accident this year with "mass casualties".

"Are we buying defective crafts... (with) the people's money?" he tweeted.

Sigh. Your pilot missed the runway and screwed up the go-around, but it must be a problem with the airplane. Local weather reports showed it was overcast which implies use of an instrument approach of some sort but the airport at Lumbia has no on site meteorological station reporting on site weather. Current ceiling and visibility are normally the determining factors on whether or not an instrument approach is safe to try. Looking at the airport's NOTAMS (NOTice To Airmen) I see the sole instrument approach aid, a VOR-DME is no longer in service. So here is a big transport category aircraft full of troops trying to find an airport in a mountainous area when it is overcast without an available instrument approach. But, hey, a Philippine Senator with no aviation experience thinks it is the fault of the aircraft.
