A telling example of how restricting access to guns greatly prevents deaths in these rampages.

Hoping the victims recover fully. Well done to the hero members of the public for subduing this madman. Well done NZ on your gun laws.

With easy access to guns you depend on good guys with guns to stop bad guys after they shot other people.

Without easy access to guns you depend on good guys (no need for them to have any weapon) to stop bad guys after they stab a few people.

No, it would have been almost the same: disturbed person attacks people an assault weapon, and is subdued by bystanders using rocket launchers, flame throwers and machine guns. Thoughts and prayers.

Thank goodness for sensible gun laws. This could have been so much worse.

People in the neighborhood began following and surrounding the man after he began his attack and one brought him down using a walking crutch, Hassan said.

gun supporters say they want people to feel safe against bad people with guns but its quite the opposite, people do feel safe when no one has any guns, to the point of going all the way to subdue and stop the assailant. At least in my country there is no excuse for anyone to walk around with anything bigger than a 9mm, and you need a good reason to even be able to have that

Walking crutch saves the day.

No details on the attacker apart from he's a man.

Less than 10 min - bravo !

When backpacking in NZ years back, I stayed in Murray’s Bay. It is a quant, middle to upper class beach suburb. The psychological impact to locals will be massive.

@Fighto! You say this is an "EXAMPLE" there is no such thing as an example when people die. Don't try to compare murder by knife vs. Gun!!!! A murder is a murder by any means whether it was committed by stoning someone, stabbing them or chocking them the list can go on even to include poisoning. It's simple MAN will kill with what ever they can use as a weapon of choice to get what they want accomplished.

She said there was no indication the attack was a hate crime, as the victims were of different genders, ethnicities and ages.

Ever heard of misanthropy?

A man wounded four people in a stabbing rampage stopped by bystanders who brought him to the ground in a New Zealand city neighborhood Thursday, police said.

A criminal with access to a deadly weapon.

Last September, a Muslim extremist inspired by the Islamic State group stabbed five people in an Auckland supermarket before police shot and killed him.

If someone was armed earlier with a firearm today, maybe four people wouldn't have been stabbed.
