These guns that take themselves to parties and car shows and start self-firing at people need to be stopped.

Because that's what the intelligent people think, right?

No, intelligent people would place the blame on the operator/user.

not the gun.

but that is useless when the person doing the criminal act is not what is needed for the story wanted to be told.

Why were these teenagers carrying guns, probably handguns?

Because they are criminals engaged in criminal activity. Criminals by definition don’t obey laws.

What a waste of time this is. The only people that care are the family members. This is just fodder for mental cases to argue over daily, weekly monthly yearly.

Why were these teenagers carrying guns, probably handguns?

It's America. It would be weird if they weren't carrying guns.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and three other teens were wounded early Sunday when a fight broke out in a Houston parking lot during a birthday party and multiple people opened fire, authorities said.

Not really surprising, as Houston has a high crime rate. Most of these type of deaths in the US are relegated to certain geographic areas under certain socioeconomic conditions. So, kind of overblown news.

Firearms are the second leading cause of death among U.S. children and adolescents, after car crashes anyway.

Teenagers are permitted in Texas to have guns.

teenagers in Texas are still subject to the federal laws regarding the sale, ownership, use and carrying of firearms. Most states (and indeed many countries) allow the use of firearms by minors in some form or another - under supervision, on private property, with parental permission and so on.

They’re all law-abahdin’ gun-ownin’ citizuns. Until they’re not.

Let’s not forget the thoughts and prayers.

So many thoughts and prayers.

They’re all law-abahdin’ gun-ownin’ citizuns. Until they’re not.

And when they cease to be law abiding citizens they should be punished. but why do you seek to punish law abiders for criminals' behavior?

Thats the American individualist viewpoint. Those of us who have a sense of civic duty see that it’s better to not give the populace as a whole the right to arm themselves, creating the pool from whence all the criminal criminals you refer to come, as we all get to live in a better society, where we are free from the risk of getting shot when going about our daily lives. The difference between freedom and freedumb.

This the same reasoning why countries whose people have a sense of civic duty performed so much better than America as well.

there are a lot of groups of people prohibited from gun ownership. criminals being one of them. when a person suddenly decides to commit a criminal act, that's hardly the fault of guns- that's on the person.

and as a law abiding gun owner, its certainly not my fault. why do I lose my hobby, livelihood, means of self protection in a poor nighborhood though the choices of others?

Thats the American individualist viewpoint.

is it? It's a question that goes beyond firearms. I'm sure you wouldn't like to be prevented from enjoying your hobbies because someone else misuses the necessary equipment.

The streets of America are flooded with millions of guns, legal and illegal. Possible to buy one off the streets for $50. Lack of selling controls is partially to blame. Gunshows, online sales, gifted guns, private sales.

Great point. which is why they are necessary for lawful gun owners in order to protect themselves. you get all the illegal guns off the streets, and I'll consider turning in my handgun. I'm gonna keep my hunting rifle though.

All healthy Swiss men aged between 18 and 34

isnt

"Every citizen in Switzerland"

Where I grew up in USA everyone had multiple firearms for hunting. A couple in the house, some in the shed, a few in the truck.

we had almost zero crime as everyone knew everyone else was armed.

also why the US will never be invaded. 300 million guns in the hands of people who know how to use them.

we had almost zero crime as everyone knew everyone else was armed.

Sounds like an idyllic place, but it seems like a small town if everyone knew everyone else was armed to the teeth.

Would you expand this to the country as a whole? Guns in every home and vehicle?

Blacklabel: we had almost zero crime as everyone knew everyone else was armed.

Without guns you guys would be robbing each other blind? Odd.

Every citizen in Switzerland is required to keep a rifle at home.

"All healthy Swiss men aged between 18 and 34 are obliged to do military service and all are issued with assault rifles or pistols which they are supposed to keep at home."

The gun homicide rate is much lower than the American one.

Excellent argument that it is the fault of the people who shoot firearms at other people, and not the fault of the firearms.

Au contraire. In a place where any idiot can buy a gun you expect a lot of idiots to have guns on them. That is the US, a nation full of idiots waving their guns.

Every citizen in Switzerland is required to keep a rifle at home.

A Swiss Army issued rifle for military use. Every male between 18 and I think it is 40 is required to keep a weapon and government issued ammunition in their home for mobilization in time of war. Every year the men have to muster with their weapon for military training. It is not there for their recreational use or home defense. It is for organized military service.
