We all are friends, let give peace a chance, people have become desensitized to death in Ukraine, that they build an immunity to the death and carnage, this should be a warning to Ukraine ,it become normal and could escalate beyond their control

50,000 happy people.

Well done, Australia. A bit late to the gay marriage party but better late than never. And great to see the efforts in Sydney every year for Mardi Gras.

Actually, the rainbow was assigned 7 colours (By Newton, I believe) because 7 is a magical number (yes, even Newton was into esoteric magic and alchemy). Indigo was the added one but I don't think anyone can really tell the difference between it and violet. So 6 is fine.

Were ex-gays allowed at this event? If there is pride in being a sexual minority, should not this group be included as well?
Jimizo
By ‘ex-gay’ do you mean they are now heterosexual?
Heterosexuals are not a sexual minority.
wallace
Usually, there are non-Gay family members and supporters giving their support. I have done that.
Mr Kipling
Pride?
Always thought this was a strange name for these events.
Pride should be for an achievement. As in I'm proud of the job I did painting the house. I'm proud of my daughter becoming a doctor.
Blacklabel
Yes pride should be something that others (not just you) would also be proud of.
few other people are proud of you for anything you do in your bedroom with another dude.
Jimizo
Fair point.
I suppose you could look at ‘pride’ in the sense of not being ashamed of being a member of a group which has been treated appallingly in many societies in history - shamed, mutilated, imprisoned and even executed in some cases.
This makes some sense.
Blacklabel
So people are proud of you for what you do in the bedroom? so much so that you create an entire event to celebrate what you did and who you do it with?
grandma must be proud.
Bob Fosse
Nobody has said this except disingenuous troublemakers.
Aren’t all grandma’s proud of their grandchildren? I’d hope so.
Blacklabel
Isnt gay entirely a “sexual preference”? If it were a work preference would be talking about what people do in the office and where you work. .If it were a food preference would be about what and where you eat.
but it’s not. So enjoy yourself feeling virtuous supporting others who have a sexual preference you don’t even like enough to have it yourself.
hope everyone had a great time at the event. Just not for me and that’s ok. I’m not a fake person applauding something I dont support.
Nemo
No, it isn’t . And it has been a widely recognized and settled matter for decades.
Where have you been?
Being homosexual is something people are. Not some they choose. Some realize it sooner, some later.
Gays no more choose to be homosexual than I choose to be left-handed (Thank god the Bible doesn’t say anything about that one!)
By your reasoning, people choose to be gay and to willingly endure the stigma of the religious, discrimination in society, the workplace and under the law. They even are the victims of occasional violence.
They choose that, eh?
That “argument” doesn’t hold a drop of water.
“Pride” is a celebration of the strength it takes for gays Yuto live their honest lives in spite of the bigoted discrimination that they face for being who they are.
This weak deflection about “preference” is just a mask for homophobia and to legitimize discrimination based on sexual orientation.
gcbel
Hard to fathom how some folks really can’t (won’t) understand what pride is about. Purposely obtuse?
In the not too distant past being (not preferring) LGBT would likely mean living a life of closeted self-suppression, depression, risk of legal / criminal repression, moral opprobrium, and suicidal ideation (the way the previous poster would like it to remain?). We’ve come a long way.
Pride…
“is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group.
*Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements. “*
The ”normalization” some above can’t tolerate? Time to grow up
Mr Kipling
I'm really proud my son turned out to be gay.... Never heard
I'm proud of my son who happens to be gay. OK!
John-San
Notice how there is no reference to LGBT acronyms ? in this Pride article because it is nows discriminatory to use the T for Tranpeople in association with a sexual biology group because TRanpeople are now class as Gender identification group not a sexual biology group. I was the the first to point this out and use the acronym SAG,s which is inclusive of both groups. So those who use the acronym LGBT are wrong and insulting of both groups.
Bob Fosse
Not everything has to be depicted with scientific accuracy. If a child draws a cat with 6 equilateral whiskers anyone who sees it will say it’s a cat.
If someone has a rainbow flag with 6 colours on it they are not making a scientific demonstration and only a total pedant or someone with a deliberate agenda will try to say otherwise.
