U.N. staff later saw vehicles bringing Jewish settlers to move into the homes, he said.

Nice, remove Palestinians from their homes just like the Nazi's did to the Jews of Europe... What is the difference here and how can anyone defend this action by the Israeli government? You can not....

As an Israel right to exist supporter, even I can not defend these actions. How can they claim the people were living there illegally when they have lived there for 50 years?

Yes, I agree that these actions seem incorrect and there does not seem to be any plausible explanation why these families were evicted from their homes. Israel needs to stop these counterproductive moves.

JoeBigs: You are bang on, and beat me to the punch. Of course the usual suspects will come on here and defend the Israeli actions simply because they feel they have to, not necessarily because they think the actions are just. The latter they probably don't even want to THINK about because it would force them to conclude that the actions in question indeed are not only UNJUST, but just plain wrong. Then of course when people are unable to defend the actions they'll just throw out the usual 'anti-Semite' label to their critics.

Sad state of affairs.

smith,

Respectfully, maybe it would be better to wait for the 'usual suspects' to actually say something before you jump to the conclusion of what they will say. Both Skip and I have stated our support for the right of Israel to exist and we are criticizing the actions mentioned in the article. However, I would not go as far a JoeBigs cliched use of the comparison to Nazi Germany, where the Nazis were obviously and actively trying to destroy a group of people in an extremely short period of time. The situations are not at all similar and the comparison completely weakens correct criticism of incorrect Israeli policies.

Madverts,

Interestingly enough, things did seem to be improving...

I wonder if this has anything to do with HR 1388; a 20million dollar bill to resettle hamas refugees in the US

the Nazi's did to the Jews of Europe... What is the difference

Hmmm, let's see, well for one the Jews were gassed. The Left and their moronic moral equivalencies.

Of course, the story is much more complex than what's in the article. The question of ownership of this property goes back decades, even before Israel's war of independence. There have been lengthy legal battles with plenty of prior notice, so it's not like it came out of nowhere. Those living in this housing, which was built while under Jordanian occupation, have never owned the property and had not been making any of their rent payments.

Anyway, a proper explanation of the history here wouldn't sell papers and get the angry Left in a tizzy, so why bother.

What he said.

Moderator: Stay on topic please. The Nazis are not relevant to this discussion.

Helter..glad to see you acknowledge the importance of prior rights to property..i think you'll find many more Palestinians have prior rights over property now claimed or "settled" by Jews.

Ever feel like beating your head against the wall?

You guys are not what I would consider 'the usual suspects' in terms of how you post on this article. Still, I see your point and if there was any offense than I apologize for it. I was referring to the radicals who think that Israel can do no wrong, and they are on here. What's more, nowhere did I say that Israel doesn't deserve a place of its own -- it does! -- but no one can say that with a straight face while Israel is NOT allowing others the same.

And for the record, I was writing that comment when you and skip were posting yours; I didn't read them before I posted. Wouldn't have changed my argument at all, but I would have agreed with you guys.

Really depends. If you live somewhere, do you feel the government has the right to take your home? What about if they provide compensation and offer to build you a new one? If that is the case, then why should not the government of Israel have that same right? The Palestinians want to have East Jerusalem as their capital. It is claimed by the Jews. Historically belonged to them, and the majority of residents are now Jews. So whats the problem? So what if some families are moved out to the West Bank instead. Of course this all depends on whether or not Israel offered to build them a new home, and offered to compensate them for their loss. If not, then I would have to come down against this action too.

Historically speaking "emminent domain" is used for taking property to construct a project that benefits the public in general. Seizing the house of people who belong to one group so that you can move people from the more powerful group in is called ethnic cleansing. It's repugnant. It stops short of death camps but there's not much more of that slippery slope to fall down. There is no excuse for this type of behaviour. None. The Israelis are completely in the wrong.

Why not just drop the whole "preemptive strike" tactic that you overuse anyway.

I guess it's about time for Israel to pull all their illegal homesteaders out of Palestine.

That'll happen.........

I guess I don't need to hold my breathe on that one. It'll never happen.

Israel is two-faced. One side they cry, 'oh we're so mistreated' then the other, 'screw Palestine, we'll murder more if they bother us.'

Ah-h-h-h the promised people. < :-)
