7 Afghan police poisoned, then shot dead

Seven Afghan policemen manning a checkpoint in the restive southern province of Helmand were fed poisonous food and later shot dead, said a statement from the Helmand governor's office Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday in the main provincial city of Lashkar Gah, which is due to be handed from foreign to local control in an official ceremony on Wednesday.

"These police, who were guarding the checkpoint of the Sarkar area of Lashkar Gah city, were killed on Monday around 2 p.m. by the insurgents who at first made the police unconscious by food poisoning and then killed them by gunfire," said the statement.

It said the attackers escaped with their weapons in vehicles.

"Investigations are ongoing regarding how the incident happened," it said. In a separate incident, it said two civilians were kidnapped and killed by insurgents.

That place is a basket case and always will be. Get the soldiers out of there, seal the borders, make sure they have lots of ammunition and let them get on with it by themselves.

Yes, get the heck out of Afghanistan already.

If this is a taste of things to come, we can look forward to a progressive new Taliban government, very soon.

Maybe then they can get back to where they left off last time, keeping girls at home, blowing up the Bamiyan statues and persecuting non-Pashtun tribes.

Another unsurprising event in Bush's disaster. I have been saying its hopeless since before the invasion began. About the only thing impressive about war supporters is their tenacity. Always full speed ahead with them no matter how clear it is its the wrong direction. They make a good case for bringing back slavery frankly, because when they have power, we can only expect more the same futile waste of time and blood.

Corrupt Karazi or the Fundies. 10 years of NATO funds spunked up the wall. In fact, building a 10 meter-high wall around the country would probably have worked out cheaper.

It really is time to let them get on with the killin' without our soldiers in the middle. Another of W's miserable failures.
